[Fight!] Gaspard vs. Svegili

Gaspard had moved away from the others. The group atmosphere had once again pushed the lion to his limits so he moved a little ways away from the center of the oasis where the main part of the group had communed. It was peaceful, there. The sounds of the wind moving through the sand outside of the oasis was calming. The moon was out and gave an amply amount of light. The dusty lion breathed calmly, olive green eyes scanning the horizon.

Then he heard the battle cry.

For a moment, the lion thought that perhaps a member of his group was playing another prank. But no one could be so foolish.

Gaspard's muscles tensed. An ambush? It wasn't out of the question. The muharip moved swiftly towards the center of the pride, ready for battle. When he saw a figure, one that he didn't recognized, he lunged.

Svegili had quietly separated from her group when they had reached the hostile area. Not very outspoken, not due to shyness but rather feeling it unnecessary, she had chosen to be silent for the entire run. Brooding and observant, she found it was a wasted effort to converse among others; such nonsensical things led to distraction.

She kept close, however; it was survival. Being entirely isolated from the group was nearly guaranteed suicide during war time.

A figure rushed towards her, purple eyes narrowing, muscles tensing. He lunged at her but, quickly, she dodged right, skidding around to face him before lashing out at him, claws fully extended, a snarl escaping her throat and contorting her maw.

The lioness had moved before he could strike. She was fast. The broad strike of her paw landed squarely at his face and sent him reeling backwards to avoid claws to the eyes. Still, the hit was good. He was bleeding.

Gaspard lowered his head slightly. His blood fell in drips against the sand. Above him, his eagle shrieked and moved higher to where she could survey all of the battles, both for reporting purposes and 'I prefer to keep my feathers attached thank you' purposes.

Such a wound would not stop the lion. His face turned a grim shape and his fangs bared as he moved forward once again, a growling roar leaving his maw.

She had landed a hit.

Eyes focused on the target, her vision nearly tunneled to just him. No, no, no. She needed to keep aware of her surroundings, too. No telling how lacking of pride these lions were. Her paw stung with sweet satisfaction as she watched him come towards her again. Quickening her steps, she once more moved to the side, attempting to gauge his eye out; it was a miss.

Nearly frustrated, she hoped back, moving sideways cautiously, growls rumbling through her as she slowly circled. She was dimly aware of the bird and, honestly, she hoped it didn’t dive into her; she would clamp her jaws on it, of course, but it would leave her vulnerable to attacks that brief second.

As the lioness circled Gaspard did the same, body low to the ground and a steady and low rumble of a snarl leaving his bared maw. He had missed too many times, now. The lion cursed himself silently, keeping his eyes narrowed and focused. There were too many factors to keep account of. He didn't know how many had ambushed them (battles with the Qhyryeshti often broke into one-on-one fights, but he certainly didn't want to risk a second enemy to face), and having to balance all of the information while battling an unexpected enemy...

Well. It was difficult, but it was what life in the pride was life. Training for this situation.

There was no time for stalling. Gaspard waited until he thought there was an opening and lunged forward again.

She was glad she waited for him to move first.

Quickly, she ducked down, hind leg muscles bunching, before lunging off to the side, once against missing the shot, though just barely. Letting out a snarl, she pounced at him, attempting to sink her teeth into a critical spot, nails out and looking for contact. She missed a critical area, she knew, and quickly she pushed back to avoid immediate retaliation, feeling the slightest of blood.

Not at all impatient, she let out a ferocious growl, snarling at him, keeping a wary eye as her tail swayed and her ears flattened even more so.

Her teeth made contact with his shoulder and Gaspard reeled as he felt her his skin break. Damnit. The burly lion thrashed until she moved away and gained his footing back. He didn't wait anymore, lunging forwards again in hope of getting her before she could get prepared, again. His patience was slipping, a mistake that he should have known better than to make. But the muharip's frustrations had been growing throughout the night.

He no longer had the patience for this.

The lion was getting impatient. Taken by surprise, Svegili barely moved out of the way, pace unsettled as a sound of surprise drew from her throat. In retaliation and instinct, she swung at him, able to strike at him but not landing it as hard as she wanted to. A growl of frustration escaped her as she danced several steps back, regaining her momentum. She needed to calm down, needed to fight with a level head.

Rolling her shoulders, she analyzed her opponent, refusing the arrogance that tried to creep through her. She hadn’t won the battle yet; arrogance could very well be her downfall.

Gaspard let loose a breath as he was hit once again. This time, he kept his footing despite the strike to his flank. He was loosing his concentration and he'd be damned it he lost this fight like a child. His eyes narrowed and his body moved low to the ground as he gained his footing back, olive green eyes sharp and hard against his enemy. He couldn't let her just beat him like this. It was pathetic.

His teeth grit. Blood slid down his maw and made his mouth red as his lip curled. More precise this time. No more fooling around.

It was dragging on too long and Svegili realized her focus was slipping. The longer it dragged on, the higher the chance she got hit.

Impatience creeping into her, she charged at him, swinging a paw. She felt contact but it was a mere scratch at the tip of her claws; it was a puny attack and she knew it. “Damn it,” she growled under her breath, frustration mounting inside her. She wanted this to end. The fact that it was dragging on told her she was still not good enough, would never be good enough. She needed to get better, so situations like this wouldn’t stall her. Crouching, she watched him cautiously.

Gaspard was slipping. The wound on his face was dizzying and things were starting to get out of focus. But he sure as hell wasn't going to just back off. He wasn't going to just run. He'd go down when he didn't have any other choice. The muharip's body crouched low to the ground, tail lashing behind him as he steadied himself. It was getting harder and harder. Gaspard wasn't sure how much longer he would keep going.

But those weren't thoughts he was going to let cloud his mind. He had to keep going. He couldn't slow down until he stopped.
