"Lush Forest Peace"
User Image

Territory of the Gotei 13

One of the peaceful and stable districts of Western Rukongai. Its inhabitants are well lodged and well clothed despite how spartan some housings may look. They retain a friendly relationship with the Gatekeeper and Shinigamis and are ardent supporters of the Gotei 13, having had the most chances to interact with the robed warriors that ensure not only their safety, but also the safety of the realms. It has the highest birthrate among all districts of Rukongai and an impressive percentage of those children have the Reiatsu necessary to enter the Shino Academy.

Gengyo arrived at a small restaurant with some classy decoration outside its door. After all the action and excitement thus far today, Gengyo was understandably breathing a bit hard when he finally came to a stop. he knew full well that this place served food and drinks from every country on Earth, and from virtually every time period. Not bothering to wait for Gabriel, he went right in and was given his usual favorite seat, as well as his usual cup of fine sake; the finest the place carried. Somewhere in the back of his head, Gengyo was looking forward to telling Gabriel that this place never charged him or anyone he was with, no matter what.

It was only a few seconds later when Gabriel de Wit touched down outside the restaurant.

'Nice place,' thought the captain approvingly, 'Let's hope the food matches.'

Walking in, he payed no mind to the staff and quickly joined Gengyo at his table. His arm motioned the waiting staff like he would've summoned a barkeep centuries ago, the appendage working in a reflex that came from many a night spent ashore in taverns and inn of varying repute.

He leaned forward on his arms and cocked a grin like he was talking to one of his old shipmates.

"So, what did you learn from Shizuko?"

Gabriel wasn't usually one for mincing words, and preferred to get to the heart of things quickly, asking the question before the smells of the place set in and set his mouth to watering.

Gengyo's sake came, as did the waitress for Gabriel's order, demurely informing him that anything he wanted was free of charge because he's "with Shikitei-taicho," as she put it. At the same time, Gengyo began right away.

"Now, as I speak she's very likely telling this same information to the 12th Division. During the fight in Karakura, Shizuko's exact words were," and Gengyo now did a fairly decent impression of Shizuko's voice as he said, "four strange humans appeared, wielding powers and knowledge that humans should not have. Though it is worrying, they seemed most concerned with destroying the Hollows. As such, I determined that as of right now, they are not a threat, merely a curiosity." After that, he sat back and sipped his sake as he watched for De Wit-taicho's reaction. There was more, of course, but anything beyond what he'd just said would be almost entirely just theories.

Gabriel sipped at a cup of water, opened his mouth, then stopped to take another sip of water. He held up a finger as if to say "one moment". In truth, Gabriel was only stalling for dramatic effect; he was not one to be shocked or surprised over news. Humans like this were not entirely unheard of. It was a bit over a century ago when these humans had been officially confirmed to exist by the shinigami, though some shinigami had told drunken rumors or stories about them before then. Gabriel was never sure what to believe when he had heard them, but when he had learned they were true... Well, he supposed that that had just further proven one of his personal philosophies that had been echoed by others for centuries: anything is possible.

He put his water cup down and smiled.

"Well, it's been a while since I've heard about these kinds of humans. If they openly show themselves like this more often... Well, I guess that means I'm going to have a lot more reports on my desk in the future,"

He sighed and drank more water. He wanted beer, or the sake which was well loved by other shinigami, something a little more... refreshing. But, he'd rather not drink when there was still much to do during the day.

"So, Shikitei-taicho, be frank with me: What are your true thoughts on these humans? You've given me your 'official' statement like any other of our peers would, but what else do you think?"

(OOC: Sorry that response took so long. Yesterday was crazy for me.)

Gengyo's Hell Butterfly landed on his shoulder and he heard Jack's voice, informing him. Same for Gabriel...it was almost on cue.

"Orders from the high command notwithstanding, I think that the Fullbringers, as they're apparently called, are much like the Quincy were," he began. Everyone knew about the Quincy clan, despite that group having gone the way of the dodo. "They're humans who've been granted powers that are exceedingly useful at eliminating Hollows. Yes, those powers could potentially tip the balance, but I'd be lying if I said that, as a group, they are necessary because we cannot be everywhere and we cannot save everyone. It's a shame to me that it seems we must treat them as enemies."

Gengyo's little monologue was punctuated by sake and by small snacks brought by the demure waitress. Clearly she was beyond starstruck at having two Captains of the Gotei 13 at her table. "Personally, that is one order, you can rest assured that I shall not obey. Whatever the reason for them being labeled as enemies, I won't be a part of a genocide. After all, we were human once too."

((it's fine. same for me, tbh))

He mulled over all that he heard, both Jack's message and what Gengyo had said. His thought process progressed logically, from desperately wanting a stiff drink and to join Jack, to letting what Gengyo said sink in.

True enough, he had been human. But he'd been a spirit a lot longer now. This was one of the feel times Gabriel was genuinely conflicted. Human's were his business after all, and with the amount of time he'd spent observing them over the past few centuries, he still felt human in some regards. But, he also owed everything he was to the Gotei 13...

'Screw it,' he thought, 'No sense in wasting brain cells on it now.'

He downed the rest of his water, and tactlessly reached across the table and picked a snack from Gengyo's food. He quickly chewed and swallowed, enjoying the taste.

"Do what you need to do, Shikitei-taicho. We all need to be sure where we stand if this ever comes to head."

He grabbed another snack. Damn, they were good.

"Say," he said with his mouth full, "After we finish up here you want to join Jack, I mean, Mallory-taicho."

The honorifics still felt strange on his tongue at times. Before becoming a shinigami, he'd only ever addressed two other people by title: the captain of the ship he served on, and the priest that attended the sailors.

Gengyo nodded at the thing about doing what he had to do. However, he had very little interest in the way of joining Jack for anything. He'd made the mistake once already that day of forgetting how she was. Not about to happen again.

"Thanks but no thanks. I, uh...have some new Kido I need to test out." A total and complete lie, but he didn't have the heart to come out and say he'd rather eat his own sandals than spend any length of time listening to the Archer of Death try and charm every male in the room into her bed. He found her unprofessional and childish. But he did in fact have one or two things he wanted to see the Head Captain about. "Maybe next time," another lie. "in any case, I hate to leave so suddenly, but I have some work to get done. feel free to stay as long as you like. Since these people saw you here with me, they'll never charge you for anything; long story."

As he excused himself, Gengyo stood and bowed to Gabriel with a small smile before quickly departing back to go see Captain-Commander Niwa.

((Exit to Head Captain's office))

((In other news, I know that post kinda sucked, but I had to get one down and try to move Gengyo along a bit before Sunday.))
