“I see, I still find it incredible that your body can withstand its weight…” she replied as he sheathed it. Oldest he says? It was hard to imagine, his appearance was hard to discern, but she would not ask. Simply shrug- and reply- “As my grandfather would say- ‘not nearly as old as the mountains’.” So he was training on Olympus? A hero…
Judging by his resigned seating and inquisitive gesture perhaps the fight was over for now. She felt a little pang of disappointment, but then brushed it off. There would be plenty of other times, other chances. There was no need to rush. Besides, it was always best to get to know a sparring partner that way future practice would strengthen their effectiveness. Someday- surely, they would be expected to support one another on the battle field.
With a swipe to one side the squire replaced her rapier into its own sheath and came closer, taking a seat on her hip across from him, and slightly facing outwards to the view of the valley. It was a lovely night after all.
“I suppose it is not very different from yours. I too have aspirations of greatness as a warrior. Whether to not I become a.. Hero- will be determined by my actions.”
Shion glanced at him a moment before continuing- “As the daughter of a knight, and his only child, it fell to me to carry on the teachings of our family’s duty. However, I suppose it was not expected from someone like me to take that responsibility so …literally.” A rueful smile graced her lips a moment. Since coming to the Academy- no, since arriving outside her own world, Shion was delighted to find that outside there were endless opportunities for women like her. Instead of shock, her desire was met with a refreshing indifference, like it was no surprise that a daughter of a knight would naturally want to become one herself. No one asked if she was to be wed- as was normal when she would come of age. Yet here, no one expected her to become the mother of the next true successor. In fact- she was deemed by someone to still be a 'child'?
This was a bit of a culture shock for her. At this point, most girls would be married already-maybe even have a babe of their own. In her world, in a few more years she would be dubbed a hopeless spinster. Too old to be married and bare children. Not safely any way. The prospect would have saddened her before but now…
“ I was taken from my home by the three good fairies, I supposed they saw potential in me-"
"-Eventually- like you, I learned all I could in traverse town and ended up here to continue my training.” She looked up at the bright moon above their heads- “-someday I will return home, a true knight.”
And save everyone, for my future queen and country...surely I will.
Her eyes looked very serious for a moment, the things unsaid a fierce glint in them, before they flickered to Zack again and softened.
“ I guess we both have our work cut out for us.. ‘old man.’ “

(Finally, page 2! Thought we'd never make it XD){ATE .:. Blades Beneath Moonlight .:. 16} {Zack .:. Land of Departure .:. Cliff Top} "Hey, I'm only twenty six, I'm not that old!" Zack protested, laughing. He quickly sobered, however. Or, got as close to sober as he ever got. "What do you mean, 'someone like you?' If your dad was a knight, it makes sense for you to be one, too. What, did you want to sell flowers or something?"

((I know right? Congratulations!))

“Twenty six? My goodness, it does not show.” She chuckled looking more than a bit astonished.
When Zack inquired again she too sobered up more, hands folding over her lap- Cue: "Shions" theme “I suppose selling flowers would be more suitable for a woman wouldn’t it?” before he protested she up a hand up in reassurance-“Tis fine, I know that is not what you meant.”
“In my world though,.. “ her eyes went somewhere else, they had that glazed over expression when someone was deep in their own memory yet still staring forward- recognizing the person before them.
“-it’s not expected- for a woman to take up the sword. It is certainly not encouraged. The only thing I’d be expected to do, as a daughter of a knight, would be to marry into a family of similar trade- it would be my duty to give birth to the next in line to inherit our family’s legacy.”
A hissing sound, and she held one of her rapiers in her hands, turning its hilt over to examine the emblazed emblem of her family crest. “At sixteen, I should have been married off perhaps to some noble. At least that would have been expected- but I suppose… my father loves me enough to not force me.”
“..Still, I hope he could forgive me for breaking a social taboo. I want to be a knight. But I’d be delusional if I did not admit that what I desire would not be accepted at the present time. If I was welcomed, I would be the first in my realm to accomplish such a feat- sure I’d be dubbed a prude spinster, completely useless as a woman, but if that means I become a dauntless sword of the Realm, so be it.”
"I want to believe that anything is possible, that one can change their fate."
Her voice held no bitterness despite the topic, she seemed to smile, as if resigning to some sort of fate, completely at peace with her decision. “Anything truly worth anything isn’t gained without sacrifice right? I shall prepare for the worst-“Meeting his gaze again she smiled-“But I shall hope for the best. I believe this academy will help me accomplish my dream. what say you?“
Realizing she went off ona tangent the young lady went pink in the cheeks suddenly, "ugh- s-sorry I really went off there didn't I!? F-forget what I said. Tis a bit heavy handed."

{ATE .:. Blades Beneath Moonlight .:. 18} {Zack .:. Land of Departure .:. Cliff Top} Zack listened intently as Shion explained the culture she was from. Several times, he started to say something, but held his peace as she requested. When she finished, he scratched at the back of his neck, looking away. It took him a moment to articulate his thoughts, but when he did, his tone was one of unwonted seriousness. "You won't run into that problem here. Heck, you shouldn't run into it anywhere! I mean, Master Aqua is… well, she's not only a great warrior, but she's an amazing woman. And I've met a few women who fought on the front lines in the war who went on to start families or whatever. So, I mean… I guess what I'm trying to say is… do whatever you want to do with your life. Who cares if you're a girl? You just gotta follow your dreams, you know?"

Shion looked at Zack a moment with a look of honest surprise before it blended into a genuine smile of appreciation. “Thank you Zack. I’ll keep that in mind.” she hummed looked away then, her face flushed a little. “-especially when I decide when it’s time to go and take back my home. Right now, I’m not strong enough to return-“ Another hissing sound and her rapier was back in its sheath. “– but I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it,” she looked back to Zack and gave grin trying to stir the cheer back into his voice”- Who knows, if I keep training like this with you Mr. Olympic Hero, I’ll be unstoppable in no time.” She appreciated Zack’s encouragement and unbiased attitude, truly it was one of the perks being in the outside worlds. This freedom she relished.
The freedom to pursue her dream. She liked that idea a lot.
‘Dare I wish it though? Will I be around long enough??’ After all, it wasn’t like she had a lot of time.
Refusing to lose that chipper feeling, Shion stretched her hands over her head and did a twirl turn looking straight up at the moon above their heads. “Whelp, it’s getting late. Just enough time for me to perhaps hear something interesting about you, or have one final clash before turning in.” her eyes lit up with an idea just then, “Or both? We can play a game, it's good for concentration. “
