♣ He hadn't expected the hug but the anger to come afterwards was greatly anticipated, and Tate was ready. " 'I can take care of myself', 'What's in the past is in the past'. Who had to take care of you after last time, Kai?! Who had to worry about you nonstop!? Maybe it's in the past for you but it's not in the past for me who had to watch you get your damn heart broken because of some a*****e who you thought was right for you!" Tate knew that the lack of communication with his sister was his fault too so he didn't go there with her, but he wouldn't let her suddenly bite his head off for him being protective. " Don't defend Ash! You can't live somewhere and not know what's going on in your own home! You can be hurt, Kailan." Really, Tate knew that this was a lost cause. Him versus Kailan was never a good thing and he'd usually either fight to the death or just give up half way. He was still debating on that. " How well do you even know him!?" He just wanted to keep his sister safe. The hardest thing for him to balance right now was keeping both Elena and Kailan safe. He just wanted to keep the people he loved alive, that's all, especially with the alphas in town. And what did he even know about the Derek guy? He could be a drug lord or something. " Can you stop being all tough-girl for five seconds to understand why the ******** I'd be upset about this? I'm so sorry, Kai. I'm sorry that you no longer occupy the 100% of my mind. I'm sorry that I've got a girl who I'm trying to keep out of danger after she nearly died. I cannot be in two places at once. But you are not going to make me feel guilty about that. 'He took me out to dinner last night and wanted to treat me to some coffee this morning', great, Kai! That's great! But how long will that last, huh? You don't have the best track record, if you hadn't noticed. I'm trying to prevent you getting yourself into another ******** up situation!"

She didn’t apply her werewolf strength, nor did she think that she would need it. Why she resolved to action being louder than words now, she didn’t know. But she knew that she had to show Tate just how angry she was for recoiling her past experiences at her face. “That attack on Elena happened forever ago, Tate! Everything since then has been quiet! There’s nothing there for you anymore, Tate, because Elena isn’t in danger anymore. Y’just want to play House and pretend like you two are dating when it’s not going to happen. Okay?”
Now Ash finally stepped in, upset that Kailan would use that against Tate. It was evident that he was lingering the question and refusing to ask it. The two acted like they were dating, being together all the time, yet not acting upon the question of officially asking the other out. “Alright, Kai, that’s enough..”
“No! It’s never enough! It’s like whatever I do, Tate gets on my a** about it, even if it’s the right decision. Tate, when are you going to get it through your thick skull that if Elena hasn’t asked you out at this point, what makes you think she will anytime soon? How are you even so sure that she even likes you like that? As far as I heard it, she lost her v card to blue eyes Matt and her last was that vampire brother, Stefan. I’m sorry, Tate, but you being over there and pretending? It’s idiotic. And it’s going to tear you down in the end.”

♣ Tate clenched his fists, he didn't like being pushed, but he wasn't going to hit his own sister, he was just pissed. He wasn't going to lie, Kailan's words about Elena hurt him. Specifically because he intended on asking her opinion on what to wear for his outing with her later. But now, forget it. Because Tate couldn't even call it a date if he wanted to, he didn't even know if it actually was a date. When Ash stepped in, it was like he wasn't even there because Tate didn't even look at him and Kai didn't take his advice at all. The argument was between Tate and Kailan, it was always between them. For such a problematic sibling, Ash was usually left out of the fights. Maybe Tate should take a page from his guidebook. " Okay" he said, making a point to brush Kailan with his shoulder when he passed her. The boy went straight to his room to grab a pair of dress pants, a decent button down, a tie, and one of his best sweaters. Before he left his room, he shot Elena a quick text : 'If Kai texts you anything about a date, go with it? Please? I'll explain everything later. Too much to text. <3'. He took one last glance at the outfit he scrapped together, was sure it all matched, he didn't need his sister's opinion on it. " You know, Kai" he said, walking back out with his clothes in his hand. " Mentioning Elena's virginity is kind of a low ball. Because I'm not a virgin so why should I care if she's not? And 'what you've heard' is fine but I think you of all people shouldn't talk about what you've heard of another's person sex life, seeing as though your own name gets around also" Tate shrugged. " But, you know, I'm not going to be on your a** about that or anything. I'm at Elena's house because I need a break from this at times. I want a break from my absent father, my dead mother, my bar tender brother - Not that your job is s**t, Ash, because you're still making money regardless - and my bullshit prone sister. Kai, whatever happens to you? Let it ******** happen. If you get into another situation that you need help? Find someone else to give a s**t. You worry about yourself and I'll worry about myself. And since you're so concerned about my relationship with Elena: we have a date tonight". Tate waved the clothes in his sister's face for emphasis. Even if he lied, he hoped Elena would come through for him on this one. He would tell her about this exchange regardless.... well, most of it " If you want to be a b***h then fine but, from now on, leave me out of it"

She didn't care if he was dating her or not, but she didn't like how his mind was consumed with Elena. Kailan didn't want Madison to happen again. She remembered how that relationship was. She wanted to throw that in his face; abuse the knowledge of his past real relationship and compare it to her last. She was just as abusive as Kailan's ex, both physically and verbally. She attacked Tate whenever she wanted a good ******** or a high off of feeling superior to him.
Instead of that, though, Kailan took in a deep breath and watched as Tate exited his room with fresh pair of clothes and claiming that he had a date. "Good for you, you finally grew a pair." Her tone was dull, bored, and purely coated with disbelief. However, she didn't doubt that Elena would say no to Tate if he were to ask her out on a date. "Tate, do us a favor and stop acting like the Alpha male. You are not the king of this household, you know why? Because you don't live here."
And there was one more matter she didn't to bring up. "As far as dad? Don't you dare talk about him under this house. Alright? Because he wasn't just your dad, Tate, he was all of ours. You don't think we're pissed off because of him too? We are. Hell, the last time he called, I screamed until I was blue in the face. But you don't see me using that as an excuse. I am not a victim here, but don't you dare act like you have been thinking what's the best of me. Dad had some rough edges, but he did what he had to do. And when he couldn't make you forget, he had ways of making you not care. I know because that was on me. Tate, protecting you was on me. I have to look out for you, Tate. That's my job! I care about you too much to let your heart get broken like last time. Just.. Promise me something: take care of yourself."

♣ Tate didn't want to flip out on his sister. It was best if he just left. But he couldn't leave like this. " How....How do you even get from me being concerned about you to you having the job of taking care of me? No one asked you to take care of me, Kailan. No one. I'm fine, if you can't tell. Is that your problem? I'm fine with Elena, I don't need you." That wasn't entirely true but he did find himself needing Kailan a lot less now that he was with Elena. " Find someone else to push all this s**t on because I'm done, Kailan. I'm not going to feel bad because 'you're just looking out for me'. Just ******** off, Kailan. Don't turn this into some 'big sister looking out for her youngin' kind of thing. I've been taking care of myself for the past few months, Kai. You're right, I don't live here, so allow me to be on my way." Tate made his way to the door and decided to have one last say in this. " And don't text me. Or Elena. I'll be back for the rest of my crap eventually". Some of his things were already at Elena's house. It wasn't like he was completely moving in with her, he could find his own place somewhere around town. He left after saying those things. He didn't go straight back to Elena's house either. He was still angry and he didn't want to take anything out on her when he told her what had happened. Plus he didn't want to be the one to spoil their evening so, not even calling his housemate or anything, he went to where he'd usually go to blow off some steam: the same place he went to change every full moon.

  Her steps were quiet, timid, and hesitant. Hands clad in gloves were shoved inside her warm jacket pockets as she approached Tate from the back. Her expression wore something unfamiliar... she was tired. "Tate?" she said, her gentle voice filling the silence surrounding them and the woods. Another worrisome step forward before a gentle hand escaped the confines of her pocket and reached forward to the broad back that of Tate's. Her touch was gentle, and not at all threatening. She didn't even make any attempt to pull him to her, but instead walked around to meet his gaze.
"You didn't come h --- you didn't come back to my house. I was gettin' worried." Elena didn't attempt to lift his face, or make him move at all, but instead stood in front of him. But the sight of him standing there in the middle of the cold forest; it brought water to her bottom lash line before they spilled downward on her cheek. She was worried about him. "Kailan wouldn't text me back; she wouldn't tell me where you were. I had to guess. I first went to the place where we shared some pizza fries." That brought a feeble laugh from her lips, the cold puff of air being seen in front of her. "And then I tried the school, t'see if you were hanging by the tree where we would meet in the morning - well, before we started some new living arrangements. Then I had to take another guess. And I guessed right." Was she willing to go out in the forest on her own for some hunch that she wasn't sure would be right? Yes. Because that's how much she cared about Tate. He didn't realize how precious he was to her heart, and how he could easily break her with a touch of a hand.
Taking off a glove from one of her hands, she reached forward and linked her long, slim fingers with his own. "I'm not sayin' you have to tell me what happened. But let's get out of the cold, and have that date, yeah? What do you say?"

♣Tate had been blowing off some steam in the seclusion of the forest. He hadn't expected Elena to find him but he heard her before he saw her so he wasn't caught off guard by her presence. Tate turned to look at Elena when she approached. He didn't look angry anymore, just drained. Plus he didn't want to startle Elena with his anger. His problem was with his sister, not the future mother of his children. JOKING. Tate didn't want to push things too far by labeling Elena. This wasn't even a proper date.
♣"Hey, sorry. I-I know I should've gone h - to your place but I didn't want you to deal with me while I was so upset." He was actually surprised that she had gone to so many places before coming here. It's not like the places were blind stabs, they were all places where he could have been. She cared enough to actually search for him. Tate linked his hand with hers and smiled. He was going to give her a general explanation of what happened but then she called their outing a date. Tate raised an inquisitive brow. " So this is a date." He wasn't going to freak out about this, he had to play it cool. Tate swung their hands as they walked through the forest. " Kai and I got into this big fight over some dude she had in her bedroom. It wasn't pretty. Even Ash got involved. Don't expect Kai to be much of a conversationalist right now"

Elena felt the need to vocal her thoughts, but instead thought better than to come in between a sibling's fight. Whenever Jeremy and Elena were tearing each other's necks off, Elena always loathed it when Jenna would come in between and try to pick sides. Stopping in her steps, yet keeping a firm hold of Tate's hand to halt him as well, Elena smiled genuinely at him. "We're not gonna dwell on that. You're dwelling." Pearl teeth peeked between her peach lips as she smiled at the man before her. It was hard to believe that they were just considered to be friends. People assumed that they were dating and in a way, they were. They lived together.
Elena stepped closer to Tate, close enough to where she was sure that he could feel her body heat on him. She hesitated, lingering the stilled moment a little longer, before lifting herself onto her tip toes. Her lips leaned up to his cheek, where his dimples were caved in his cheeks whenever he smiled. When falling back down to her heel, she gave his hand a reassuring squeeze and nodded her head. "C'mon. I still need t'get ready."

♣"I always dwell. That's my thing. Even when I don't want to dwell, I still do it." It was true. If he wasn't dwelling out loud, he'd still dwell inside his head. This was just bothering him that much. Sure, he and Kai fought tons of times but it wasn't like this. And Tate was sure that neither of them would cave in. Tate was so used to caving but it wouldn't happen this time. Kai didn't need to be such a b***h when Tate was only looking out for her. But Tate couldn't bring himself down by thinking about the fight, tonight was still about him and Elena.
The kiss planted on his cheek was enough to drag Tate from his thoughts and brought his attention to the smaller individual next to him. The calm on his face was 100% fake but he didn't want her to know that. " Still need to get ready?" he asked, looking astonished. He knew that Elena would want to go out with herself tonight but he couldn't let this opportunity pass. " And here I was thinking that you were already ready for the date. Sheesh."
