At first, there was nothing. Proto just sitting there as he had been moments before.

But suddenly everything came flooding back. It was jarring, and the bot immediately scrambled off the table and stepped away from Light. Not because of who it was, just because he suddenly felt the need to be away from everyone.

Proto was shaking his head, growling to himself over the memories. Reintegrating them back into his memory banks meant reliving them, which was not something he was ever eager to do. The bot grabbed something nearby, some hunk of scrap metal, and proceeded to crush the hell out of it between his hands. Sorry dad...he felt the need to fight, and...well crushing that scrap was the best option he had now.

At least he wasn't blasting apart the lab? He certainly seemed agitated enough to do so.

Light watched Blues relive the past, his brow furrowed in sympathy. "I'm sorry, son, he said softly. Even were Proto to begin destroying the lab itself, Light would make no move to stop him. He was the reason for his son's pain and he deserved far worse.

Thankfully Proto hadn't come to his father's house armed, or it was very possible the lab would have been destroyed. No, instead he paced around a bit, fidgeted around, snarled...

And finally he sunk to a seat on the floor, tucking his head between his knees.
"....Why?"

Why had his father sent him alone?
Why had the citizens abandoned him to his death?
Why had Wily saved him, further confusing the problem?
...And why was Bass being so -nice- to him these days? Not that his father would know about that.

The whole thing was just so damn confusing.

Why was he sorry?? No...that wasn't what he meant. "Blues, I thought I could use you to undo the wrongs I've made. I thought the citizens were ready to stand up and fight Wily. I was wrong, my boy. I've made so many errors, I could never ask your forgiveness." And likewise he would never forgive himself. So much blood colored his hands, the citizens were right to cast him from the larger part of the city. But as he swore all those years ago, he would make things right. His downcast gaze lit briefly on the suit Proto had been playing with before. Some day soon.

....Right.

He was just a robot. A tool. His entire existence had been to simply be used by others. No matter how noble the intentions, it would never sit well with Proto. He had been programmed with free will, and yet was anything ever truly his decision? At the heart of it all, his basic programming dictated his every move.

"...You're still my father."
It was a fact. Light was his creator, and no matter how much Blues suffered from the decisions Light made, he would still acknowledge this fact. He was, after all, just a mortal.

Anger and despair were warring for dominance in Proto's core. He needed to get out of here, away from...everything really. This was just too much for him to deal with right now.

"..Thank you."
No matter -how- he felt, Proto was grateful when others helped him. His father had repaired his arm, and perhaps more importantly his glitching memory banks. The memories were painful, but at least they were intact once more. It was something.

For now though, he was pulling himself off the floor and he definitely looked ready to go.

Light's heart swelled at Proto's acknowledgement. It may not be forgiveness, but it meant much to him to know that his son had not disowned him. Seeing his imminent departure, the doctor cast about for some last gift to impart. "Wait! Blues, my boy. Take this." He handed over the box of e-pops. "They're easily transportable. You can carry them with you to make certain you do not run out of energy." It wasn't much, but it was the very least he could do. Perhaps he could whip up something better in the event Proto returned for a second visit.

...Huh. Well...they -were- tasty. He definitely wasn't going to object to the gift. Proto took the box, looking down at it a moment before looking up at Light.

"You...definitely should make more of these. They're good, I bet the other bots would really like them."
He certainly wanted to eat the whole damn box. Instead he was going to take them back and share them with Bass.

He lingered a moment, almost like he wanted to maybe hug Light....but in the end he didn't, and instead moved to head out the door.

"...Maybe I will see you again, father."
-When- though, he wasn't sure. For now the first Son of Light was gone.

Light smiled a bit, pleased that Proto had enjoyed the pops and was willing to accept his gift. Though he hadn't given him a farewell hug, the bot had hesitated before leaving as though considering it and that was enough for the good doctor. "I certainly hope so, my boy." He prayed one day his son would return not for repairs but simply because he wished to see him.
