Little Miss Shiny

Ootori_K

1pm, Saturday, Ootori Mansion

One excited blond stumbled from his limo with bags of crafts--- the male hadn't even started his project, that much was apparent. But it was clear that he was over-prepared and had a large variety of things that he either didn't need, or likely had no idea what it even was and simply picked it out because he thought it would be a wonderful addition to his "meadow".

After calling his goodbyes back to his driver, and very nearly tripping on the stairs that led up to the mansions front doors. The house staff, being ever used to Tamaki just popping in whenever he felt like it--- whether Kyouya was there or not --- were there with the doors open when he finally came to a halt halfway through the door. "Hello Everyone! How are you? Is Kyouya up yet? Is Shiny-san here as well?" It was clear he was looking forward to this day, even if was to work on class work rather then just hanging out.

"I am here now, at any rate." Came the quietly amused reply from behind Tamaki as he tumbled his way into the Ootori mansion. In her arms she carried the partially constructed diorama that was her own project, a large bag with her supplies slung over one graceful shoulder. She looked down at what he was carrying and her eyes widened when she realized he only had supplies, nothing built. "Tamaki, you haven't even started on it yet? How are you going to finish in time?"

Little Miss Shiny

The Ootori mansion was dim and cool inside, a tall structure blended of modern concrete blocks and Japanese decor. One of the maids came forward and curtseyed to the two teens.

"Master Kyouya is awake, and is in his room," she indicated, in a soft soprano voice. While it might have carried the same practiced neutrality expected of the Ootori family and of servants alike, there was something about it that indicated that the young master had been up for some time, much to his regret. "He's expecting you. Shall I bring you there?" Of course, Midori-san knew that Tamaki was familiar with the mansion, but since Shiny was new to the mansion, it was only appropriate to offer.

"Shiny-san!" Exuberant as ever, he turned partially--- or to the best of his abilities --- and greeted the pretty hostess with that naturally bright and cheerful smile of his. "Bonne Journée!" A hug would have to wait until later when both of their arms weren't completely full, it was a shame he couldn't help Shiny with her own haul as well. At her shocked expression, he flashed her a reassuring smile in return, "I was shadowing my father for some of his meetings the past few days, but I made sure I would have the entirety of the weekend to work on it." What he didn't finish today he would do the following day, and knowing Tamaki, would even get up early on Monday morning if it was needed.

"Ah! Midori-san!" While Tamaki was familiar with the Ootori family's servants, the male was a little unsure how to really take the tone in which she mentioned Kyouya. He hadn't been there to greet them at the door either, so the blond really wondered how his friend was handling the project. His indigo eyes fell back to Shiny with a curious look very briefly before returning to the servant as he stepped up to follow her. "Yes, please! We mustn't keep Kyouya waiting!"

"bonne journée à vous aussi, mon Prince." Smiling in spite of herself, even before he had reassured her that he'd have plenty of time to finish the project. Then again, a meadow could be done with far less sculpting and messy gooey materials, so she reassured herself that it really wasn't as much of a stretch for him to finish in just a couple of days. Kyouya, on the other hand...

"Yes, we should hurry and see how he is doing." That he had already been awake for some time wasn't too alarming, since it was already the afternoon, but something in Midori's voice had a feeling of unease creeping along her back that was in no way reassured by the look of concern on Tamaki's face. "By all means, please, lead on."

Midori glided along, leading the two of them through one wing of the mansion, pointing out the sitting room and the entrance to the dining room as they passed them. The interior of the mansion was very quiet aside from the sound of water bubbling somewhere, most likely from the atrium attached to the sitting room.

They were met in passing by another servant, heading opposite their direction with a tray that seemed to have at one point held lunch for one, but was now nothing more than mostly-bare plates and silver. He smiled at the two teens and the maid, and turned into the dining room, apparently returning the tray to the kitchen.

The softest strains of classical music met their ears as Midori brought them to a closed door, and tapped on it gently. "Master Kyouya, your friends are here," she said, with polite deference that somehow still managed to be bright and just-cheerful-enough.

There was a long pause, and then ... "Come in," came a voice from behind the closed door, its owner clearly deep in abstraction over something. The maid opened the door to permit them entry, allowing a full glimpse of Kyouya's suite. Tall windows permitted slanting sunlight to enter from the courtyard, throwing cool, clear pools of light over the crisp white of the walls and the mostly-modern furniture, aside from a pair of traditional Japanese dressers. A closed, wall-mounted unit indicated the presence of a concealed media center, and a long fish tank, tucked into the niche under the stairs to the loft, bubbled away quietly.

The young man himself was sitting at the newspaper-strewn coffee table, head bowed as he worked. He'd clearly made progress over the past few days, with most of the base complete, though he was still finishing detail painting on the buildings, brushes and paints set out before him. As they entered, Kyouya rinsed his paintbrush and glanced up, and there was, perhaps, a brief moment of unmasked tiredness before the calm smile slipped into place. "Good mor -- afternoon," he corrected himself.

Tamaki thanked Midori with his usual smile before walking further into Kyouya's room without any hesitation and setting his own things near the coffee table in which seemed to act as the crafting area of choice for their small artsy "study group" session. "Good Afternoon, Kyouya! Shiny-san and I have come to save the day!" The prince turned back the the hostess to help her with her things if she needed it before he would wandered around the coffee table to admire Kyouya's work. "Waaah..." The blond leaned over his friends impressive ecosystem diorama thus far. "You don't hold back, Kyouya." It was naturally said in complete appreciation.

He might have silently wished his friend wouldn't stress so much over their class work, but at the same time knew very well that telling him that was not an option and that was simply how the male worked. Not to say there wasn't ways to make it a little more tolerable for Kyouya, at the least; that was essentially the reason why Tamaki had suggested this group session between the three of them.

Okay, so maybe he also wanted an excuse(not that he ever needed one) to see his friends over the weekend.

Even as she admired the tasteful blending of starkly modern lines and traditional aesthetics, Shiny was somehow completely unsurprised to find that the Ootori manor more resembled an artfully constructed museum of modern living than an actual home. It was a beautifully arranged, soothing, and utterly impersonal atmosphere that explained quite a bit - and also made her just the littlest bit sad.

She didn't have long to consider that last emotion however, as she was swept along in the wake of Tamaki's enthusiastic entrance and subsequent greeting of their fellow classmate. From behind the exuberance that was their club president she smiled to Kyouya and started to wave, then immediately thought better of it when her diorama began to wobble precariously in her arms. She quickly set it down on a patch of open table, allowing Tamaki to claim her bag and set that down as well. "You've made quite a bit of progress on it, Kyouya. I like where you've used those textures I showed you."

"But now you're going to have to pause, because I've brought reinforcements and it would be criminal to get crumbs all over what you've done so far." Spoken with a grin as she pulled several bento boxes and a tupperware out of her bag and handed each boy one of the bentos. Inside was a flaky croissant sandwich with a bunch of grapes and a few carrots cut into flower shapes. The tupperware was for later, when they'd need another break.

Kyouya offered his best friend a small, possibly genuine smile of appreciation at the compliment. For him, it was one that struck a deep chord. "Thanks. It's been some work." It wasn't entirely one of his usual understatements, but there still might have been some soft concealment in it, as if it were not the only project on his plate at the moment. He slid the diorama aside to make more room for them at the table, rearranging paint pots and brushes so that the space was more evenly distributed.

It had been his tray that had passed the other two teens in the hallway on their way in. While Kyouya wasn't usually prone to taking lunch in his room, he'd chosen to do so today as an aid to focus. That the remainder of the mansion was empty aside from servants today made that choice less difficult. It had been a long but not leisurely meal, begun early but interrupted perpetually by his ongoing desire to complete details before they slipped his mind -- details that were just as fast to do as they would have been to write down.

"Heh. Thank you. The techniques were very helpful," he said lightly, though a bit of concern flicked into his eyes. "This looks wonderful, Shiny, but I just ate," he said, looking over the bento with mild apology. Still, he paused to take a bite or two of the sandwich in appreciation for her thoughtfulness, and picked at a few of the grapes and carrots, waiting while the other two ate as well. It gave him a moment to relax, and mentally step back from his work for now. "Thank you for the thought."

Unlike Shiny, he didn't seem surprised that Tamaki's work wasn't started. "Your father's been keeping you busy lately, ne?" he noted. It wasn't a question so much as an assumption, with a softly-sympathetic undertone. He was about to ask if Tamaki had done any planning for the project, but a glance at the art supplies he'd brought in answered that for him. The copious quantities indicated that if there had been forethought, it had been overshadowed by and I could also ...! "What kind of meadow are you planning to do? Prairie, alpine, coastal ... ?"

"Magnifique!" Having taken his lunch early, Tamaki was glad to indulge in Shiny's wonderful cooking. Besides, a full stomach would definitely be needed for the long afternoon of crafting they had ahead of them. "Shiny-san's food is always beautiful and delicious." The blond admired one of the cut carrots with keen fascination before popping it into his mouth with a bright expression. But it seemed whatever she put her work into was always beautiful, her diorama was not excluded from that as well as he was finally able to take a closer look at her work now that it was at the table and easier to see.

"Hm?" Having been distracted by Shiny's diorama, Tamaki nearly missed Kyouya's words, though didn't as he was quick to perk up and nod. "I don't mind that I've been busy, it was my choice to get more involved with the family work, after all." He yearned to help people, make them happy, and he felt that he could do that from within the Suoh company. It might have kept him busier then he would have liked, and he did rather miss spending time with the club, but he enjoyed it none the less.

Saving some of Shiny's delicious food for later, the prince packed it away and finally dived into his own bag of supplies to start the project. There was a lot of work to do and less time for him to do it(not that he was worried). "I wanted to work with clay, so Tagoyachi-Sensei suggested I do alpine and construct some mountains as well." Said clay was pulled from the bag eagerly and placed on the table. He was like a kid with a new toy the way he handled the box. "What are you two working on today?"

She noted Tamaki's fascination with the little carrot flowers with quiet satisfaction. It was something she'd only just started to try, having noticed how popular it was to display the contents of a bento in an artful and creative manner. "It's okay if you've already eaten. It's prosciutto, so it will keep a bit for when you're hungry later." Smiling brightly to both boys. Being together outside of classes and the host club was a bit of a thrill for the fallen star, who much preferred being around people instead of being alone.

"I was going to make my creatures today, and the beaver dam that's going up here." She pointed to the back end of her diorama, which was already painted to look like hills and a river, and had most of the trees and plants installed as well. "I still have a bunch of my florist's foam, if you want to use that for your base and put the clay over it? That way it will be much lighter and not as cumbersome to carry, and you won't have to wait so long for the clay to dry."

"Good, I'd hate to waste it. All right if I save it at room temperature, at least for a few hours?" Kyouya confirmed. The prosciutto wouldn't spoil, and he thought it would be a crime to subject the croissant to the dampness of a refrigerator.

"Alpine will be pretty," he noted absently, starting to become absorbed in his own work again as he tried to figure out which of the steps to do next. "And not too difficult, as long as you've got enough materials for the flowers."

He focused a little more sharply at the question. "Most of the painting is done, aside from the outbuildings for the handlers' facilities. I need to detail the ground -- low grass and bushes, and then install a half-dozen trees, some feeding stations, install the birds, and set up the netting." I think. While he sounded confident, Kyouya hoped he hadn't forgotten anything. He was beginning to get the sinking feeling that whatever he did on this project was not going to be good enough.
