They had agreed to meet at the waterfall at the base of the mountain. As the sun rose, he greeted it in the spot with a blanket constructed bag on his back. Inside were alpaca blankets for a little extra warmth and to protect something else he hopped to bring back.

Gazing up the mountain, the blue angel shivered a bit. While the Isle had warmed considerably, up there was likely just as cold as it was last time. At least this time, he knew where he was going and what he was looking to find.

With a deep breath, he started looking away from the mountain to look for his old friends. With so much changing, there was a sense of stability that the Guardians and old friends still existed.

Raken had made good use of his time since their meeting, carefully selecting each item that was nestled in his deerskin pack slung over his shoulder. He knew Kurt would have something warm for when they climbed up the cold mountains, but he had stuck a pair of crude snow shoes in his pack just in case. He had worked late into the night on them, and with their early meeting he only had a few hours of sleep. Not that he minded, as being a father meant learning how to function on little sleep.

As he left the surrounding brush and heard the roar of the waterfall, his steel blue eyes caught the angel nearby. He lifted a hand in greeting. "Good morning. I hope your preparations went smoothly."

Kurt met the demon's eye and waved back with a smile, "We'll find out." He chuckled a little but had all faith in the preparations. Of course, knowing what to expect, and experiencing it again were two different animals. That very thought was on his mind as he looked back towards the mountain, neck craning to see the white caps. Not looking back yet he explained the plan, "We'll fly as high as we can before the air is too thin and cold to keep us up then land on the path. After that its walking for a while. We'll come upon an snow filled battle ground with swords and other armaments scattered." Even saying it, it sounded ridiculous.

Looking back to Raken now he added, "I have no idea who or why as to the battle itself. I've never heard of any sort of fighting of that nature. Thats where you'll find your sword." And he'd find another piece of armor to give a place of honor in his much warmer home.

Accepting that Raken understood the plan, Kurt looked back and took off from the standing position heading straight up. The feeling of dread that gripped him as they started to leave warmer air for colder was almost visceral. In this, he chided himself, he was being a baby.

The demonic lightly smiled back, having trust in his old friend. After all, Kurt knew what would be needed as he had done so before hand. But that did not necessarily mean it would be easy. A number of pae had gotten stuck up in those mountains a few months prior and had struggled to survive. His wings extended in a full stretch. "The reason has small importance to our quest, at least for the immediate future." As far as he knew, their mission was only for items, not the understanding behind them. And while his thirst of knowledge itched to know why the battle, there was no time to waste for research.

His powerful wings spread up before giving a huge push down to lift his feet from the ground. Higher and higher he pushed, the cool morning air tangling his silver locks. It was a refreshing time to take to the skies, but he kept his focus on the task at hand. The faster he gathered all the items, the sooner he could breathe easier once more.

While he could have pushed himself a little further, the effort to get lift and breathe in the thinner air was more then he cared to endure. There was no reason to push when before he had not made it to the top either. More to the point, it wasn't exactly the top he wanted.

Not signalling, he trusted Raken to keep alert and to likely start to have the same difficulties. His smaller wings didn't make them weaker! As that little intertnal spat of attitude raged, the angel landed on the snow covered mountain side harder then he expected. The landing caused one knee to bend but he was able to keep up right. With the help of his now freezing arms he was able to stay upright and keep his balance.

Pulling the alpaca blankets turned cloaks from his bag, he covered up including the wings and offered another behind him, turning now to see if Raken was actually there. Not exactly forgetful, the angel held a lot of trust in Raken and the demon's abilities.

As they climbed up into the sky, he noted the steadily lowering air temperature and the bigger breaths he needed to get the same oxygen. He kept the angel a few beats ahead to have Kurt lead, waiting for his signal as Raken did not know how far up the battleground was. Thus when his friend went to land, he was quick to follow after. However seeing Kurts rough landing the demonic was able to calculate, readjust his angle and land in a much smoother fashion. His feet crunched into the snow next to the others. "I always did prefer the warmer seasons." Raken spoke dryly as he took the blanket. Throwing it over a shoulder he moved around his sack to open it and free his snow shoes. They were basic things with a wooden outline and criss-crossed string. The design seemed simple on paper, but it was the first time field testing it.

But he didn't forget about his companion either. After fitting his shoes on, he reached in to pull out a second pair. "These should make walking a bit easier, but they haven't been tested yet. Feel free to give feedback so I can improve the next batch." Perhaps he could even trade them during the winter season for scarcer items, like cotton or metal. That was an interesting thought.

Kurt had a joke on the edge of his tongue as he watched Raken land so much better. "The snowflakes suite you, though." Came his gentle rubbing on such a smooth landing on the snow. The mirth blew out of him with one chilling gust reminding the angel of where they were and why.

Watching with curiosity, he saw the demon pull out what looked like tennis rackets and placing them on his feet. At first it looked silly, then he was offered the same and couldn't be rude enough to turn the offer down. Placing the same odd objects on his own feet, he tried to walk. Waddle would not be an unkind description of the several first steps taken. It was a relief not to sink into the snow but also a bit of getting used to.

Once he was able to move at a reasonable gait, it was off again. Walking with confidence he headed up the mountain. It was several minutes later that self absurdness faltered just a bit. Continuing the trek as if he really did know where he was going, rewards came. A glint of a hilt of a long fallen sword stood out against the white battlefield. All around the wind covered and uncovered the weaponry.

It seemed that there were less this time then there had been in the past. Not stopping to puzzle this, Kurt went to searching for something he didn't have to bring back, hopfuly with an emblem or something to tell its story. "Find the sword that calls to you." That sounded better than 'pick up the first one you can get off the ice easiest.'

The angelics comment did not go unnoticed, bringing a light chuckle from the other. He was only able to land softly thanks to seeing the fault of how Kurt came in, but he liked the jest of being king of the snowflakes. Raken then proceeded to just as awkwardly step forward, his wings spread wide to help with balance. "Well...at least they do work." Not exactly easy to walk in, and far from fashionable. But...workable. As they hobbled along he quickly chose warmth over security by pulling in his wings so he could bundle himself up in the soft blanket. The cold of the mountains truly was a thing not to be taken lightly, leaving the male thanking the Guardians for his forethought of boots even as his nose froze in the howling wind.

Walking however helped generate additional body heat, and though his extremities were frozen his core temperature remained at fair level with the help of the Alpaca blanket. Conversation was absent, but that was the sort of thing which came with wisdom and age. No need to talk frivolously, and content to simply keep focus on the task at hand. So when Kurt finally spoke up, the demonics ears were prepped to listen.

Wait. Did he really just say that? "...Calls to me?" He couldn't quite keep the mirth from his words or the hint of a smile playing on his cold lips. "Well, you do know best." He shuffled out more into the area, steel blue eyes shifting about from one item to the next. It really was a battlefield, or at least the discarded remains of one. Calls to me...calls to me...hmmm... Slowly he proceeded to walk to each sword that he spotted, eyeing each one thoughtfully before moving to the next. Most were frozen solid into ice from having snow melted then refreeze. Others were broken from battle or in otherwise deplorable state from age and weathering. But just as he turned to rewalk over each one, a glint caught his attention. Almost unseen from under a cracked shield, a hilt had reflected the light. The demonic moved over to it and moved some of the snow away from it to get a better look of its state. Chipped, but still solid. Almost like himself. He slipped a hand from the blanket to curl around the hilt and give it a yank. Raken was only half surprised when it didn't budge. "Frozen too, eh?" He mused aloud, but he wasn't going to go back to one of the easier ones he had spotted. Kurt said to find the one that called, and this was the closest any of them came to that. So he knelt down to put his hands over the blade, lowered his head and poured slow, steady warm breaths against it to start thawing the ice.

Every so often as he exhaled, he'd give the sword a shake to see if it had loosened. The moment it gave just a little, he straightened, took a deep breath, and gave another pull.

CRACK! The ice split, freeing the sword and sending the male staggering back from his left over force. Right onto his behind in the cold, frigid snow. "Finally!" By Guardians that took more effort than he originally anticipated. But if the items were easy to get, they would have been given them instead of being sent on a scavenger hunt.

"Of course I know best," He had to crack back, grinning as he set about his own work. It was sad, knowing he couldn't take everything here to learn their story. Instead he had to pick pieces that he could carry and that told some sort of information. Scanning over the long gone wreckage, he couldn't help but send a prayer up to the Guardians, thanking them for letting him live in a time without this terrible warfare. Things had been peaceful his whole life, all thanks to the Guardians.

It was after that small prayer that he found what looked like a shield but would only be useful to protect the forearm and where ever it was raised. There were interesting little designs that he couldn't understand. It was that item that seemed more valuable then the larger pieces scattered about. With frozen fingers he freed his own prize before looking to see Raken succeeding on his own. "Alright, lets get back down to the ground!" That, he was sure, would not need to be repeated.

Turning back he hurried forward intent on getting to about where they landed so they could fly back to the blessed warmth below. This was a luxury he did not have when it was his time to find the items.

What a battle it must have been. The demonic thought to himself as he admired the blade. It was only a matter of time however before the snow started to seep through the blanket, freezing the demonic bottom. He quickly scrambled up. "Agreed." Raken spoke hastily, sweeping over the fact that he had willingly sat in the snow to stare at an inanimate object. "When we reach the bottom, we can break for lunch before continuing. I was rather lucky in hunting yesterday." As he spoke he was already hurrying back down to where they first landed, following the footprints in the snow.

From there, it was as simple as jumping off and easily gliding back down. Much easier than the way up, and extremely more pleasant as biting cold gave away to soothing warmth. It also offered a gorgeous view of the island. One item down, three to go.
