Name: Aranel "Aya" Age: 14 1/2 Gender: Female Rank: Candidate Appearance: Slight with reddish hair Aya looks very little like either of her parents. Her looks stem from her Great Great grandmothers line which was all of woman who were short and thin. She isn't very strong but is quick.
Personality: Brilliance is Aya's main strength, she has a quick wit and a quick mind however It makes her as a person difficult to follow when your talking to her because she jumps from one thought to the next fluidly usually with no warning. It also makes her very judgemental when you aren't thinking the same thing as her she assumes from the standpoint that everyone should think logically which in most cases is not true. She can be very forgiving when it comes to someone she respects and she's curious to a fault even attempting to climb into caves she shouldn't or drop down into a pit to find something that she figures should be there (Aka a nest or a person she wishes to find) . She is by nature a loving person but will run you down to get something that she's set on (She's very determined which is Good and Bad in it's own right she will work her hardest to get something and won't quit but she also WON"T QUIT unless forced by a higher authority). Mostly her determination comes out when she's trying to Prove a point or when she's trying to defend someone else. Within her years at the Weyr she has been found to have a rather authoritative personality to children younger than her and others even her age, if it comes to a drastic situation she'll determine the best course of action and walk her fellows through it in order to get them all out. HOWEVER she usually will not react unless the situation is dire, there is noone else (Such as a Teacher/Rider) or she is given express permission to do so (whereas they are in a group and she is named as leader of the excercise)
*She does not have many friends (Correctly due to her over judging people and her curiosity with the outside world.) Her Authoritative nature means that even when she doesn't mean to be demanding she appears to be. Which is an issue for many children who wish for a FRIEND not a psudo mini adult. She doesn't persay regret not having many friends but being lonely leads her to be even more engrossed in trying to learn as much as she can to be a good rider.
Though she doesn't show it she usually has the best interests of the people she meets at heart. She tries to make sure everyone is where they should be and does everything they should to get there.
When she attempts to take charge and the rest aren't listening to her She can show a bit of her true nature. She Will go up to another student and back them into a wall or corner to make them understand her place. She feels that if everyones in danger or she has been put in charge for a reason there should be NO doubts about what they need to do. Because she feels if she's doubted than she isn't doing her job.
She has a good respect for certain sects of authority. The weyrwoman and for one and teachers or anyone who teaches her. Older students ect she tends to ignore. She has high respect for queen riders however but JR. Golds personalities she looks for. She doesn't respect them if they are too loose or don't respect others around them. bronze riders she would doubt if it was a choice. (women hold higher respect for her) She aims to be a rider. She dreams of becoming a Queen rider simply for the fact that the queen will eventually be allowed the right to have a clutch and Aya is massively interested in the politics behind the position she understands the queens don't fight thread as the others do however her thoughts on the matter is you give up things to recieve other perks.
People in danger make her angry and she's afraid someday that she will do something that will put someone in danger and she won't be able to help them.
When afraid she quiets down and goes into the back of her head you could say to think of a solution.
In her view Respect is Mainly earned with experience. It would be rare for her to respect anyone her own age who HAD NOT to her made a huge sacrifice to end up accomplished. Kindness to others does gain a lot of respect for her. She in herself is kind though she tries to mask it.
History:
She was born as the daughter of a brown rider and A blacksmith and given up very quickly with the hopes of her becoming a rider herself. She knows her parents and has seen them but has little to do with anyone outside of herself her Candidate masters and other candidates. She's brilliant and has proven herself on several occasions to be more than capable of understanding concepts far beyond her short life. She has a tendancy to eavesdrop around her (Not on purpose really but she can't help hearing things if their said in her vacinity.) She has problems with children her own age and even slightly older than her. She prefers the company of academics mostly, Healers and the like. She rarely gets along with children her own age and hardly ever plays games unless it's for a good reason. To her there's so much more to learn and try to accomplish than a game allows and the children found her... Odd for that to say the least. . Sneaking to read books or out to find people who could teach her more because a normalcy for her. She caught subjects so quickly that if they spent more than one day on one she would become immensely bored and unresponsive. She isn't quite happy with the fact that she has so much pressure on her to become a rider she tends to despise pressure of any way shape or form so she is more against the pressure in itself than she is simply their wish to be a rider. She loves the idea of flying and would LOVE a dragon. However she feels that the only reason she is valued is because of her potential. She doesn't feel that they see any more to her than a valuable candidate and if she fails she won't be useful anymore. So she has a short time to recieve a dragon to her. Especially when her mother has her heart set on her daughter becoming a rider and the few times her daughter has come in contact with her has made that clear.
Aya wonders about what's outside the Weyr but spends so much time vying for attention and trying to learn what it would take to make her a good rider that she rarely gets to see anything unusual. She did once get lost outside of the hold and that left a profound impression on her.
Because of her inability to thrive with her peers she was given to a "Foster Mother" however Aya never really bonded with her. She spent most of her time alone if she could help it trying to avoid that emotion that comes with seeing people your supposed to care about. She is heavily afraid of becoming attached to people simply for the fact that she realizes if they "Die" or "Go away" Which is common they won't be around anymore. She would rather be lonely than lose someone she loves. Respect is alright but to her asking for affection is overstepping boundries she doesn't have it in her to give.

Hey!
We’ve just a few things to talk over before we can get Aranel approved. The first thing is that… well, you’ve got the wrong character sheet! We’re pretty sure that this one is from Dragonflight, and we’re Dragonbraved - very notably, our character sheet doesn’t have any entry for sexuality!
In terms of her history, it would be very normal for her to be raised in the creche - indeed, that’s something that most weyr-born children would share, though if they seem to be struggling it’s likely that they would be assigned a fostermother. There’s an article about childraising in the Weyr on our wiki. Every child in the Weyr is under the same sort of pressure to become a rider, as it’s absolutely what’s expected of them. That doesn’t mean that they necessarily like it, but it is very normal!
How has she proven herself brilliant? It would be great to see an example or two. It’s also notable that as a weyrbrat she would have entered candidacy at twelve, and at fourteen only just been beginning to stand. The first stage of candidacy is essentially a kind of boot camp to get kids fit and broken in to the Weyr’s way of doing things, followed by at least a turn of Squiring to an older rider. You can read about squiring in our candidate guide, which will also tell you more about the early stages of candidacy. It would be great if you could tell us which wing she’s been squired into, as every one of them has a different role and specialisation within the Weyr.
In our setting, books are incredibly valuable and rare as all of them have to be copied by hand - sneaking them out of the library (or rather the archive) wouldn’t be possible. Though she may have been allowed to visit them and read them there, she definitely wouldn’t have been allowed near anything very rare or particularly valuable. Added to that, candidate’s and weyrbrat’s lessons are very thorough - they learn mathematics, politics, law, history, and so on and so forth though there isn’t the time or reason to learn crafts - so she wouldn’t by any means be missing out on anything she might learn.
It’s not realistic for anyone - no matter how bright - to grasp a subject entirely in even a matter of days or turns. A short attention span is an entirely different thing ;D
Moving on to her personality: again, this is Dragonbraved, not Dragonflight! We don’t have Crimson dragons nor Weyrwomen. Being a gold rider is an unusual thing to dream of - they’re extremely restricted in terms of what they can do in the Weyr, and are not allowed to enter into combat, be that with thread or other people. You can find out more about this again on our wiki.
In terms of the rest of her personality, we can honestly say that we love what you’re going for here. It would be great if you could go through and just make her a little bit clearer for us.
We love her sense of responsibility, and how that extends into every bit of her - it would be great to see how people do earn her respect and where it comes from though. Is it only figures of authority who gain it? Or can her peers do so with great deeds or through proving their intelligence? We get the feeling that she’s a little lonely and not very good at socialising - is that something she might think about or work on on her own, or that her squiremaster might focus on? Certainly, a good squiremaster should be doing their best to push her to be a little more flexible in her thinking.

Ok so I fixed much of the simple stuff! Now my only question is from here where should I take it? And How would I go about squiremaster and such? Something else she always FEELS like she's missing out on something probably because emotionally she is however she tries to drown it in learning. She would rather not deal with her peers if she didn't have to (Though she KNOWS she does have to lol)
With examples of her intelligence I would like to Rp that out >< it seems difficult to write it out right this second (I'm working on like 4 things at once but I'm excited so... biggrin So braindead)
Anyway she DOES have a very short attention span but I guess you could say it's just she jumps from thing to thing so fast that she want's to understand EVERYTHING

Hi, thanks for those revisions!
Aya's personality looks good now!
We may have been a bit unclear about the fostering system' by no means every child is fostered; it's the exception for children who are failing to thrive in the crèche environment rather than the norm. If you want her to have been fostered that's fine; perhaps the crèche workers were worried about her lack of friendships with her peers and were hoping she would bond with a foster parent? If you want to drop the element that's fine too.
In terms of a squiremaster, you can either ask around to see if anyone has a PC adult rider who could be her mentor or you can create an NPC. All you need to do in the latter case is state what wing they're in and what Aya's relationship with them is like.
It's also worth noting that it's very unlikely that she would have left the Weyr so seldom! Candidates get the chance to attend gathers outside the Weyr and her squiremaster will take her out with them on some of their non-dangerous missions. She may well not have much unsupervised experience of the world outside the Weyr though, she might be monitored at gathers (if she chose to attend any) and when out with her squiremaster she wouldn't have had the chance to wander off and poke around holds either. So, basically you can still keep the feeling of her not having much experience of life and culture outside the Weyr but she will have physically been out with her squiremaster if nothing else.
Now, golds! Just to mention the specifics of this point, while it's fine for her to hope to Impress a gold because she's excited by the idea of clutches that's really all they have 'going for them' as it were. Golds don't rule the Weyr, or have any power at all of their own. They're respected of course (by most anyway) and get cushy quarters and to eat at the high table but they're not influential within the Weyr. Most gold riders will go into service of the Weyr, acting as assistants to the candidatemaster (who at the moment happens to be our senior gold rider Weyrmaster Venk!*), weyrlingmaster, or headwoman (she - or he if it's a headman - essentially fills the role of Weyrwoman, ruling over internal affairs). Gold riders are also unique in that they are allowed to follow a craft if they want to so that could be a reason for her desire; she wouldn't have to swing a sword, she could become an academic! If you think this works for her please let us know what craft she might be interested in; she would have to wait until after weyrlinghood, and would be a little old for it, but she could become an apprentice once she graduated. It might also be of interest to you that one of our two junior gold riders is in fact a journeywoman mindhealer.
Also it occurs to us that the upcoming clutch will be the first she's been old enough to stand for! You've already put in her feelings about standing so there's no need for you to put in more, but just a note for you to be aware when you start playing.
Thanks again!
[*The Weyrmaster/mistress - This is the senior goldrider, whose dragon will be the ‘Queen’ of the weyr. He or she is - like all the goldriders - not part of the fighting wings, but will probably have another role within the weyr. They will frequently be in charge of internal investigations and policing, as the Queen dragon generally has the most mental pull. This title itself brings no power with it, and is just a term of respect for the senior gold's partner.
In our case Venk is the candidatemaster as I mentioned and though not actually head of the internal policing of the Weyr he's still an important force within it and handles a lot of logistics.]

Lol I did get confused but it turned out for the best! Your right she wasn't thriving so since they do have that option I think it would make sense to try and crack her So to say by having her fostered. However it sort of backfired she never really bonded there either.
Yeah that would make sense. I'm not used to the squiring aspect of things but with that comes a whole new sect of opening up for her. I could ask in thread once she's Approved and I would like to! But need to fix her up first biggrin
That would DEFINATELY be her reasoning. She knows very well that it's not a position of power but here it makes sense for her to yearn for "Out of the norm" So she can sort of have the best of both worlds. Would it be possible for her to want to be a Harper as her craft if i'd want that to be her "goal"?
Gaia's Hating on me right now o.o

Okay, thanks! Just let us know when you've looked into the squiremaster element/etc and are ready for another look. <3
