She watched as Uquin seemed to relax a bit which was good in her mind. No one should be humiliated when they did so much to help so many. Mella kept moving along not nearly as much a danger to herself or Telwren at her current pace which Uquin had found for them. Out of the corner of her eye she watched Uquin try to puzzle out her little sail scale. It was hard to say exactly what the healer thought of the familiar, though it was clear that Telwren tended to make him more than a bit uncomfortable and out of place. Nibbling the inside of her cheek she wondered just how she could convey to him that Telwren was as much a friend, guardian and muse as he was an irritation. While she was busy contemplating and running a small dialog with herself on the best way to handle it when the sound of a bad being ruffled made her glance at Uquin. That wasn’t her bag? Surely he wasn’t going to just tease Telwren right? She watched in amazement as he offered the jerky to Telwren. His face looked a bit like he was sucking on spitofrog slime. Holding her tongue she was very glad when Telwren decided to play nice and sniff the food for a moment before gently nipping it and pulling it back. Inside a huge breath of relief found its way out. She had been the only one who had ever fed Telwren and it had taken a good half moon before he stopped biting her while she tried to feed him. Feeding the gluttonous little beast had been so hard at first and there were a lot of things she had done wrong but the two had a rhythm now and there may have been a bit of fear that the sailscale would fall on bad habits if being fed by a stranger. Uquin was a good healer but that didn’t mean he should have to take care of himself if her companion misbehaved. Having gotten food Telwren began the slow process of climbing back down into her sash with the jerky in his mouth to chew it over in privacy. Cradling him on the way down she gave Uquin a radiant smile. “Don’t worry in Yera I’ll see about doing some commissions for others so I can get some supplies myself. After all you not only fed Tel, but used supplies to help bandage me up so I should be working to help pay back what you’ve used to help me so much. Thank you for thinking of me and being so kind to Telwren.” Well she had spoken this much perhaps a bit more wouldn’t be a bad thing. “It’s pretty clear you don’t think much of him but Tel is invaluable to me as a companion since often there are times no one else is around. He alerts me to trouble and makes sure at night there are no bugs around. He gives me someone to talk to and even helps me find some ingredients to use as paints.” Granted said ingredients where half eaten bug remains sometimes, still that counted. “Since I don’t really have anyone else in the world besides my parents in Mez, Telwren is important to me. Also I’m quite lucky that you were the one to come across me on the road today. Normally trips are not nearly as pleasant.” Scarlett Arbuckle o.o Don’t worry about that snapping sound you just heard. It was only my sanity. So many plot things ran through my head when you said that.. One of which is Telwren loving the kids but still hissing and grumping at Uquin *shot so hard for this* I would love to do plots with someone as smexy as Uquin, but I don’t want to just tie him down. Mella does travel but for the most part will be staying away from the war related things where Uquin would of course go. If she did go she would be in the non combat zones for documentation or… getting captured with her luck. She will never stop anyone from their profession but she will pray for their safety and wish them luck. Mella also bases her home all the way in Mez, but if she had kids she would slow her travel to Mez and the home of her children’s other parent or other family members such as in Uquin's case Mella would be fine visiting Pahana and her children. If you are alright with all that then I would love to fling Mella at Uquin faster than the speed of light. If not Mella having another fruitless crush is alright *she is very cute like that*

Was it really so puzzling? Uquin already knew that he didn't care for Telwren - the thing was a little beast. But at the same time it wasn't in him to be needlessly cruel to anything, especially an animal - and not when she was obviously so close to it. That would be ridiculously cruel of him, to tease the thing with food, even if Telwren was clearly not starving by any means. So once the food was handed over, and the gluttonous thing slipped away into her sash, Uquin rolled his eyes but returned his gaze to Mella again.
Then he blinked. What was that sigh for?? He tilted his head, just slightly, but... he blinked and found himself somewhat taken aback at her smile. It was so bright, guileless, and so utterly pleased by such a simple thing. He would have let himself be carried off into a haze of pondering that smile, and how her eyes crinkled as it overtook her features, but instead she spoke and he scoffed, quietly, giving a shake of his head. It really was nothing - the bandages could always be remade, and what sort of healer would he be to just watch someone panic over a wound?
But as she continued, that expression softened again, and Uquin instead found a soft smile on his face, feeling sheepish but also horribly pleased that his presence was ...pleasant. He didn't know if anyone had ever said him being there was a 'pleasant' thing - he wasn't the most social of people, but he also knew he could be a lot worse. Cruel, perhaps.
It made him ponder what sort of people Mella met with, usually. "My opinion of your ...friend... doesn't matter, only yours does. And if he helps you, then that is the end of it." He said instead. Then he hesitated, ducking his eyes ahead of him onto the road, looking from the outside to be watching where he stepped - but judging by the somewhat distracted look on his face, it was more a somewhat shy duck of his head. Though if anyone accused him of being shy he'd refute it, loudly. "And if I ... could offer any companionship on a long journey, then I am -- pleased." And no, he wasn't smiling at the admission, not at all.Reoakee Sorry for the wait! I had some stuff brewing that I had to take care of. >3> Shall we close this play up soon?

Uquin seemed a bit perturbed with her offer to replace those supplies used. Had she offended him in some way by making that offer? Most she dealt with seemed glad for supplies being replaced. Though they were usually travelers themselves so it made sense. Uquin’s words made her feel happy inside. Even if Uquin didn’t like Telwren at least he was willing to give her the fact that she found the little sailscale valuable. Telwren was dear to her so she often felt the need to protect him from negative comments and accusations. Watching Uquin he seemed to want to focus on the road ahead of them. It was a good idea given that the earthling he walked by was both wounded and prone to falling due to inexperience with Tale sands. Leaning over she placed a hand very loosely around his arm. This way she could balance without the risk of falling and hopefully not be too distracting to Uquin so he could focus more on the path as seemed to his desire. “Yes you are pleasant to have a trip as well as very useful and I thank you for the care you have given me.” She was determined to get the supplies to pay him back for his for his kindness. She felt Telwren move about in her sash and took a hand to cover him so he wouldn’t bump against her wound. Telwren stopped adjusting when the pressure was felt. With the food having been devoured and able to relax now he finally started to doze again. He hoped that his food giver didn’t start to move around too much. If she did he would get upset and have to walk or fly rather than be woken up to many times in one day. Not only that but he also hopped the other stranger food giver didn’t pester him. While training the food giver she had a nasty habit of poking while he sleep for a time while making strange fawning noises. After a time she stopped such antics which was pleasant.

Not offended, not in the least. Seeing her worrying about it made Uquin relax his features as much as he could, hoping he wasn't sending the wrong signals - but he'd never been that good with facial features either, so he hoped the face he made now wasn't somehow more offensive. What happened next was a surprise, and he felt himself tinging a bit red, but he quickly pushed the reaction aside - it was a very natural grip, especially for someone who had fallen in the sand before. So forcing away his own confused reactions to people and contact, Uquin reached with his opposing hand to lightly pat Mella's hand, to silent assure her the grip was approved, then continued his pace.
"It's no trouble." He assured her, quietly, patting her hand again before they continued to walk.
With their slow conversation, the two had made good time - the sand beneath their feet shifted to the more compact, hard soil of Tale's treed biomes, and sure enough the first speckle of trees, versus the occassional dry shrub of the savannah, which had been looming in the distance before, now was within just a few yards. Beyond was a sturdy path straight to Yera. With the sand beneath them becoming more sturdy, Uquin knew he should pull his arm away - but he still hesitated, walking with Mella until they were under the shade of the trees. Only then did he stop and finally pull his arm away from hers, bowing his head.
"... There are nuts and berries in the canopy - if... you get the chance, before you continue on home, I could bring you some." He fell quiet, his eyes cast towards the canopy in question, before it occurred to him to elaborate. So he made a vague gesture towards her sketchbook. "For your... your paintings."

Uquin’s patting made her feel much more at ease about having to hold onto him. She walked in silence for a while. She watched the land change with interest as she had never seen some of the plants and wondered if she could grind some of them up for her paints. When Uquin pulled away she felt a chill but said nothing. It was strange actually being close to someone for once. Staying close to him for a moment longer she slid her bags off his arm so she could take them back. She wrapped her arms about her middle cradling her sail scale after a moment while Uquin spoke. Looking up she could see a few things but they were quite far up. Cringing she couldn’t imagine climbing it herself after all she was used to rock climbing and trees were another kind of beast all together. Still she couldn’t just ask Uquin to get them for her after he had been carrying her pack all this way not to mention his own and taking care of her and Telwren. Pursing her lips she seemed to think it over. “Before I head for home I’ll ask it of you, though for now I think getting into Year and getting some rest might be the top priority.” And besides that it will give me some time to get you something in exchange for always being so kind and thinking of others before yourself Mr. cute healer. Nodding like it was settled between them and not just in her mind she turned and took a few steps toward Year before looking back at him. She glanced back at him silently inviting him to come along. Leaving someone alone on the road was apparently something neither of them could do. That and walking into a new place with someone who was a friend always tended to make her feel safer and more open to the settlement she was visiting. Scarlett Arbuckle sound more like an ending post? also thank you! I can use some brighter colors for Mella's things now since Uquin is such a sweetie. edit: or since we are at about 17 posts each should we do a few more so this RP counts as two *shot so so hard*
