~ Intro~ Welcome to the Upon the waves RP contest. Mol and I couldn't decide what to do with this last little ocean gem! So, we are holding an RP contest for the boy. This colt is a selkie the rarest of alcor types in Dream Dancers! There are only six in existence including this boy and his sisters! So this should be quite a treat! Still interested? 3. This contest will be judged by Ice_Dragon_Demon and littletomol. Ice likes good grammar and spelling. Heavens knows I am not the best at it myself but please do your best. No chat speak please!

Info: Izumi came from the eastern ocean's far away from where she reside' now. She used to be quite a traveler when she was younger but now stays for her children. She loves children, having a motherly disposition. Izumi patient and caring. Izumi is a saltwater nova; like all novae she can swim in fresh water but in the long run she prefers the density of salt water.

Info: Tonn is a curious kind of soul, wanting to learn as much about this new world as he possibly can. All while keeping an eye out for his mother, that was separated from him and his family during their fall. Tonn, like his mother and sister, can shape-shift into a seal which has help him get out of a few tight spots. Tonn is part of Tir Na nOg nova herd. Info: The eldest of the three siblings, Dubheasa is a bit on the shy side. She wants to be brave and adventurous like the rest of her family, but something in her head stops her every time. Hiding in the shadows of her family, her view of the world shall one day be less dark. (Dubheasa is from Old Irish dub "dark" + ess "waterfall", probably meaning "dark lady of the waterfall") (WIP)
Eirwen [Ice_Dragon_Demon]
Info: The youngest of the three siblings, Eirwen loves to gather thing from the ocean floor, she's amassed quite a collection of things: shells, pearls and corals and anything else that catches her interest. Her name means snow white.
Kasumi [Ice_Dragon_Demon](Half Sister)
Info: She loves the ocean, it was where she was born. Kasumi loves all of it, it's entire expanse and finds herself moving from place to place frequently to explore and find new wonders beneath the ocean waves. She is genuinely curious and loves to discover. Kasumi is a nova/arcturus crossbreed and relative of Helki [Heavenly snow]

Meaning of Name: "ocean flight" or something like that
Personality: Curious
Prompt: 3--"How does he feel about being an alcor?"
Prompt Response: To be honest, Kaito had never really looked forward that enthusiastically towards adulthood when he'd finally get his selkie skin. It was the one thing he could never get himself excited about. For one thing, it would mean a whole different way of moving--he'd have to learn how to do without his big tail and long legs. It would involve a whole new diet--eating fish? Eurgh! Gross! Even worse, some seals ate birds. Birds! Kaito sincerely hoped he could avoid being a seal when it came time to eat. He liked birds and fish. He didn't want to hurt them. And besides that, there were plenty of things in the sea that would eat a tasty seal.
Mind you, they wouldn't mind a nova, but that was beside the point.
Wait, scratch that. It was exactly the point. Sweeping up from behind the brilliantly covered nova was a trio of chittering orcas. They were hungry. They were fast. And they were playful. There was no combination in all the seas worse than that. With every flick of his tail, they gained on him. They were stronger, more streamlined; his fins, while fanciful, were simply unhydrodynamic.
Kaito was going to die. The orcas were going to catch him, throw him in the air, grab him again, bash him against the rocks, throw him around, and, finally, when the play was done, if he was very lucky, they would eat him.
The young stallion swallowed hard and urged another surge of energy out of his tired muscles. They felt like they were on fire, and with every stroke of his spine he fought off the ensuing cramps. Up ahead stretched a plain of grey and white boulders, and beyond that...
Beyond that was a cliff. A cliff with a narrow aperture in it. Kaito's green eyes grew wide. That slit wasn't nearly big enough for a nova to fit through, let alone an orca. He could be safe there...providing he could get across the plain of boulders. Providing, also, that he had enough time to struggle into his unstretched, unused seal skin. This was it. Do or die. His seal form could fit in that gap, but only if he could figure out how to thread himself inside. He remembered, dimly, his father teaching them a few weeks ago. Having decided long since that he was uninterested, he had paid no attention to the explanation. Great. Now he was going to die, and all through an uncharacteristic lack of curiosity.
No, Kaito, bad! That was a bad way to think! While he'd been planning and plotting, he'd managed to get halfway across the field of boulders. The sea cave ahead was rushing towards him, as well as the hungry porpoises. With a hasty roll, Kaito pulled off the grey seal skin and nudged it in front of him. Now, how was he supposed to start? Legs first, head to follow, then the tail would fall in...
The lead orca snapped at his tail, and pain shot through him. He didn't dare look back, but he didn't need to--she'd bitten off part of his tail fin. Blood was in the water, but his legs were in his seal skin now. Now he wriggled in his head, forced his tail inside, and...
...Shot through the gap in the cliff, and into the cave beyond. The orcas made groans of disappointment as the clumsy seal escaped.
Kaito watched the cave entrance until the frustrated predators left. Truth be told, he was too dazed to notice that they'd left, or that he was starting to get hungry for air. The world around him was different. He could see, for one thing--he couldn't see a lot of colors, everything having been turned to blues and greens, but in the darkness of the unlit cave, he could see things moving around in the water. Greenlings and sculpin skirted around him, keeping low to the sea floor. Barnacles opened and closed, their feathery legs sweeping the water. Along the bottom, moving from boulder to boulder, a giant western octopus gently fingered everything it found. Kaito was also intensely aware of the size of the cavern around him--about big enough for three adult novae to hide in, if they could fit through that narrow gap.
Air was needed, yes. Finally, reluctantly, looking from side to side in the grainy water, Kaito swam out of the cave and surfaced in the air outside. His nostrils opened at last to pull cool air into his lungs.
Well. All of the excitement aside...Kaito smiled inside. This was...well, he hadn't decided if being a seal was fun yet or not, but it was definitely...interesting. Yes. This would require further research. Yes.
The young selkie swam back towards home, eager to tell his family the tale--and the good news.
Possible Future Plots: I'm up for whatever. I don't think he'll stay in Tir na n'Ogg, though, since nothing seems to be happening there.

Foal name: Maredudd
Meaning of Name: Sea day or sea sun.
Personality: Maredudd is a very passionate fellow, when he gets into something, he puts his whole heart into it. This goes for relationships, his family, or anything that seems like a good idea. This may very well get him into some trouble (especially as a youngster). Mix this with the curiosity he inherited from his father and whoa! On top of that, Maredudd loves speed. He loves to race through the water and leap into the air. And finally, he loves to sing. When nothing else helps him express himself, he sings. And it is truly beautiful.
Prompt: 2
Prompt Response: The day he found out how rare and special he was, was the day the wheels in his head started to really turn. To think that there was only a finful of others out there just like him. How truly amazing! But at the same time...one would think it was lonely. But I guess only if you stuck with your own kind. But no, he was too curious about everyone else. Sure he loved to know all those like him, they're family. But he knew that two of his sisters where not selkies and their dad didn't even live in water. How cool is that! Oh just the thought of all the creatures that lived on land pumped him up. He began peeking onto land (when he could sneak away that is) and seeing if those that lived there were in sight. Oh what it'd be like to catch a glimpse. He heard that they walked and on something called legs!
And then one day, there he was. The stallion named Anu, he was the father of those sisters. He loved to visit and did so as much as he was allowed. One day one of his sisters, Izanami, caught him peeking at Anu. She chided him for straying away from their mother but her eyes sparkled with a hint of a smile. She told him to not fear Anu but to be wary of other starborn. Maredudd couldn't not contain his enthusiasm. But he was sure Anu saw him at least one time, but from then on he changed it up and tried to sneak peeks at other land dwellers too.
Possible Future Plots: The possibilities are endless! I'm sure he'll want to explore, try and interact with land dwellers, attempt to find out if their family is as small as it is, love wise I haven't a clue yet but I'm sure he would be devoted to the lucky lady, and of course get into some kind of trouble. I'd be open to other ideas.

Meaning of Name: Bright, Clear
Personality: He is a very enthusiastic nova, Nothing ever killing his spirit, Though he always seems to find himself in the worst situations, he usually slides right out of them, always solving the problem or getting deeper into it. Hes a good listener but he isn't very good at counseling or talking back, causing him to be just a tiny bit awkward in some 'personal' situations.

Prompt Response: Akira wanted to go on an outing with someone in his family, by just a random pick Akira asked his grandfather Ailean, who Akaira believed was quite a brilliant figure to look up too. they take a small journey by the river bank, Ailean walking on the pebbled path just beside the clear river. All they really did was talk and enjoy themselves, Akira continuously learning about his family, he enjoys this type of company a lot, where all he really has to do is listen. When a question was aimed at Akira however, he tended to stutter a lot, but Ailean was patient with him and he allows Akira to take his time answering the questions. Akira finds himself comforted by this atmosphere and he begins to speak out too, asking more questions, but eventually he asked to many questions and was asked to stop, Akira complied, he didn't want to displease his grandfather by prying, but the answer he wanted still gnaws at him recklessly.
Possible Future Plots: Maybe one day, after a few years though, only when he realized how he desperately wanted to the answer to question that had been nipping at his hooves all this time, finally giving in he would just ask his grandfather again, and this time he would pry, though it would cause him pain for disturbing his grandfather as he does. (But then again all future RPing ideas are welcome!)

Well, the verdict is in, and honestly it was hard, there were aspects of all three entries that were fantastic and both Mol and myself loved them. Since we couldn't have a three way tie, we got a third unbiased opinion. <3 Without Further Ado! The winner of the Selkie Foal is... Congrats! <3 We both did really enjoy all the entries.
