Amira arrived with seven youngsters in tow. It made her all the more weary to think their destination was a lioness who she'd have sworn was a cub too just yesterday; she smiled through her exhaustion and referred to the past fondly instead of longingly. "You and your brothers and sisters grew up well," Amira had said. Without further ado, she'd introduced the two that would be staying in Satu's company for the day. "Amri. Halisi. Come here, please."

Huddled together, her half-dozen plus one brood were hard to tell apart. The stamp of their sire was in the blues and whites of their coat, as much his as Amira's. What they lacked in differences visually, they more than made up for in personality. The two cubs she beckoned forward had distinctly different posture, with the female standing aright and confident while the male was holding himself lower to the ground.

"This is Halisi," Amira had said, nodding to the female of the pair, "and this is Amri. I'll return shortly, at the latest by time the sun is half behind the horizon." Neither cub protested her departure, but Amri seemed held back only by the reserved nature that made him want to keep close to his mother to begin with.

Halisi, however, was prepared to test her boundaries. No sooner was her mother a speck in the distance she said, "I want to go to Priderock." She stared up at Satu expectantly.

One of these things was not like the other.

One of these things was a brat.

Satu blinked down at the seven cubs she saw, following their mother. She was an adult yes, but still a rather young one, and she had much to learn of life and it's experiences. Looking after cubs was one of these such experiences.

Now she had practiced her stories and found her confidence, she knew she had to tackle her cub-sitting skills so she could be a great storyteller. Young minds were of course, the most impressionable. She remembered how the stories Tai told her as a youngster had influenced her positively.

As she grew, she understood the worth and the teaching behind storytelling. She had loved it as a hobby but also loved it for it's ability to teach, warn and comfort, and this was somewhat of a recent revelation.

She looked down at the two cubs kindly. They were brilliant blue-pelted tiny lions, and she felt the sudden feeling of responsibility. Thankfully being in such a big pride, she should be able to avoid any disaster.

"Hello Amri, Hello Halisi." She purred.

Satu cocked her head at the young female gently. "Priderock? Hmm." She thought for a moment. "Perhaps we shall make our way there, but remember, there is royalty in Priderock. We must behave graciously in case we were to see any of them." She nodded and motioned for the two cubs to follow her.

Satu didn't want to be a boring cub-sitter, but she would certainly keep her eyes firmly on the two.

Halisi.

The Prideland's royalty was a concept that eluded Halisi to a degree. She understood the basics, that the king was important and all that, but not the why. Not the how. Not the fact this traditional monarchy dated older than her grandmother's grandmother. As a youngster she was more about the here and now — and here and now The Royalty could shove it if they were going to try to keep her from seeing Priderock up close.

She did follow, a bounce in her step, a wobbled side-to-side dance that got her where she needed to go with more pep than the way her brother shuffled behind them. "How many are there? What do they all look like?"

Amri.

Royalty. Rocks. Strangers. Amri would rather be home with mom and the rest of his siblings. There were enough of them a playmate was never in short supply and since the adults took care of the food, he'd no reason to roam. He kept several paces behind the females, ears pinned.

"Well, let's see... " Satu thought for a second, looking from one cub to the other. Never before had she seen two siblings so alike in their pelt but different in their nature.

Now seemed like as good a time as any to incorporate some of Kale's history lessons into her stories. Maybe she could educate them at the same time, and hopefully ensure the little male wasn't too bored.

"There's quite a few that are related to the royal family, but there's the King and the Heir that are very important. They are all shades of brown, red and gold, really. The royal family stretches back for a great while, when the pride was very small."

"Mufasa started it all, really, and the king now, Simi, is his grandson." Satu began slowly. She was sure perhaps Kale would have explained it better. "And the king makes sure that the lands are safe, and that everything runs smoothly." Satu put lamely. Well, that certainly wasn't as exciting as she hoped.

She grinned at the pair of cubs as they walked. "But...I know a story about a king who wasn't so good, if you'd like to hear it?"

Amri didn't look at all interested in what either of them were saying. Looks could be deceiving, though, and he'd listened to the entirety of Satu's response. He startled when his sister suddenly dropped, belly to the ground, and walked to resemble stalking prey.

"I heard Mufasa was killed by a monster," Halisi began, a breathy little cackle at the end. "I heard it crept into his den when it was reeeally late —"

"You're not funny, Halisi," Amri snapped. He glowered at his sibling with parental judgement beyond his years, then finally dared eye contact with Satu. "I want to hear it."

Satu froze at the little lionesses words. It was true in fact that Mufasa's death had been deemed rather horrific, and Satu was glad that it was not in her lifetime. Seeing such a thing would turn her stomach. Still, she had heard great things about the king and it was such a tragedy, but it was certainly not a story for cubs, as historic as it was, so to speak.

She looked down at Halisi and shook her head. "Amri is right, Halisi, it is not a nice story and it is not funny to think of such things." She gave the cub a soft smile. Her stomach had tightened a little with the thought of such horror.

"Anyway." Satu's face dropped into a playful glare and she lowered her head to meet both of the cubs. "Let me tell you another scary story." This one of course, was not true.

"There was a king a long time ago, far away from here. His eyes were as red as blood and his pelt black as coal. He was a very fierce king but also very protective. The pride felt safe under his control.

That was, until one day, in the dead of night, the king ordered his subjects to go forth on a quest to the forbidden lands.

It was dark, it was cold, would you believe it?... They shivered so hard they feared their tails might fall off. They began to see faces through the trees, and began to hear voices. They feared they were imagining things, so they carried on faster..." She shook her head with a pained expression.

"But eventually they found it. It looked simple enough. It was a berry, as black as the kings pelt. With red spines and dark green ragged leaves..."

She gasped. "And do you know what the king did with it?" .. She looked at both cubs expectantly.
