These memories taste like snarsberries (Tide/Tirora)

Just outside the village of Dorrala, about an hour's meander into the Felahad forest...

Tide Breaker was a little annoyed by the looks he kept getting on the streets in Dorrala, it was something he'd put up with since he was a foal, and never fully understood, but now as an adult it was just troublesome; his markings and overall appearance were so similar to the legendary hero of who-knows-how-long-ago that people would often remark on them; worse his parents had decided that the resemblance was uncanny and named him after the old hero. There were moments when people chuckled at the unfortunate and old-fashioned naming that his anger would rise and he would become very testy about anything and everything.

Today, he'd escaped, run away into the forest to find something that didn't remind him of himself or the pressure on him to take some sort of public speaking job. His father had always advised him not to just go trampling through the Felahad forest, eating any memory he saw, but right now, Tide was willing to nibble at any of the fruits on the trees as long as it let him see something that wasn't his own bitter resentment. This was only an escape for a short time, only a stop-gap, ignoring the real problem wouldn't make it go away.

He didn't know what profession he wanted to take up, didn't know where he wanted to fit in, except that it absolutely, positively would never, ever be public speaking or mediation of any kind. Corns were smart enough to sort their own problems out, and adults spent so much time mediating their foals, they should be able to mediate themselves.

His hooves stamped with unnecessary roughness as he trumped through the forest, looking at the memory fruits and the general scope and feel of the quiet forest, but not really seeing any of it at all, until... ah... what a strange coloured fruit. Tide slowed his trample and glanced at the thick, ripe purple creation, already low-hanging and looking like it might fall, he sniffed the air, although the forest was full of the fruits already peculiar smell and nothing unusual other than its colour drew his senses to it. With a snort, he trotted a little closer, his tail flicking curiously from side to side as he did.

User Image Tirora was truly and inexplicably bored. It was something that seemed to be happening quite often lately. The going ons of town had lost their quaint charm, and in all ways, the pleasant corns who went about their merry days had lost their luster in her eyes. Each day was very much the same, and very much like the last. When the sun had risen enough to see by, she had set off into the forest to add a little spice back into the day. The memories that grew on the shimmering trees could provide ample distraction for the mare, given she didn't find one that depressed her even further. Tricky things, these memories.

Perhaps maybe, she was bored of this life. It was a possibility. She didn't exactly have a direction she was moving towards, no real family to help guide her down the right path. Growing up with parents who didn't quite seem to care, she had had to blaze her own trail in the world and it had taken its toll. She snorted softly, passing through fields of grass and seemingly never ending trees. Her parents, if she could even call them that, were no concern of hers anymore. They had made their choice, and she had made hers.

After walking for quite a ways in silence, she flicked her ears forward to catch the not so subtle trampling of angry hooves a ways off. A smirk slowly spread across her face, violet eyes flashing with excitement. This could be interesting. There wasn't quite another town within walking distance, so to get this far out, it was out of deliberate avoidance of others. The most she could do was mess with him a little. This was precisely the kind of excitement she was looking for.

She cantered forward, moving lightly on her hooves so as not to attract unnecessary attention as she slowly approached the source of the noise. Peering curiously ahead, she could see a young stallion approaching a memory hanging low on the bough of a tree. Oddly enough, he looked so familiar. A name she knew on the tip of her tongue but couldn't place. The smirk slowly grew along her mouth, pinching up the corners in a crooked smile. She stepped into view, the smirk evaporating into an easy going grin. "Hey! Escuuuse me.." She called out, drawing out the word pointedly. The purple fruit looked delicious, and while she highly doubted the stallion would relinquish his prize, where was the fun in not trying? "Unfortunately for you, that one's mine." Silly enough really, she tried to hold a serious gaze but she couldn't keep the devilish delight from showing in her eyes.

Tide was just getting around the nearest low-hanging branches when someone yelled out behind him. The stallion startled, his ears flicking back in alarm as he turned to face down the other corn. She had a look about her, like she was trouble.

He flicked his tail angrily from side to side and stepped so he wasn't showing the mare his side. A little aggressive, yes, but it was that or risk exactly what he'd come from town to avoid. He snuffed at her to add to the aggressive stance before he glanced back at 'her fruit' and then back to her.

"It doesn't have your name on it." He snorted. "Besides, it might not taste good; don't you want a memory about fluffy clouds and frolicking in meadows. This one's going to be something.... nasty." He decided the last on a whim, since no one really knew what memories were in the fruit most of the time. "Yeah, full of angry fire-spirits and scared little girls. You wouldn't be able to handle it." This last, he said with a dismissive shake of his head.

Tide circled back to the fruit like he expected that would be the end of the discussion.

The stallion seemed to regard her with particular distaste, so she decided to switch tactics. She stepped forward again, noticing he positioned himself directly in front of the fruit, oblivious that he was trying to hide his back. "Little defensive are we?" She laughed softly, a delicate sound in contrast to her trickster ways. She swept forward a few more steps, gauging his reaction carefully. "Clouds and meadows are so boring, don't you think?" She moved around to approach him from the side, seeing if she could get him to retreat a little.

"If it's so nasty, why do you want it then?" She snorted, grinning lazily as she moved forward, step by step. Everyone knew that you couldn't quite tell about memories. Sometimes the softest pink ones contained young love, other times they carried the pain of a young mother losing a foal. It was all a bit of a gamble really. A lottery of taste and remembrance. "Angry fire spirits and scared girls?" She tilted her head to the side slightly, pretending to consider it for a moment longer than really necessary. "Nah, sounds like fun to me." When the stallion circled back to the fruit, she saw the strange blue markings flash on his back. Again, she was struck by the sense of familiarity of it all. There was something strange here. "You look familiar.." Her voice trailed off, racking her brain for any idea who this stallion was. "Do I know you?"
