What is Play-by-Post Roleplaying?
Play-by-Post Roleplaying is an online text-based activity where roleplayers interact with each other in a predefined environment via posts. This means that you, as a roleplayer, will create a character, write a post about your character -- what they're doing, how they're thinking, and what's happening around them -- for other roleplayers to respond to with their own posts. Each post builds upon the previous one, developing a story!
In Tentacl, you have the added element of using your avatar to depict the character you create. In The Kingdom of Lahaina, try customizing your character as a disturbed prince or mythical damsel. In Icarus Lunar Colony, try customizing your character as a colonial marine or space pirate. The more you get involved with your character, the more fun you'll have!
Roleplaying Rules and Guidelines
1) Avoid "god-moding." Every character has a weakness or flaw. That's what makes them interesting! So your character likely shouldn't be an indestructible, omniscient being who can shoot lasers out their eyeballs and turn everything around them to dust. There's nothing wrong with having a powerful character, but remember that roleplaying is more fun for everyone when it's cooperative!
2) Do not metagame. Metagaming means that your character is able to use out-of-character (otherwise known as OOC) knowledge in a story. Unless your character can read minds, your character should have no way of knowing or predicting what another player's character is going to do -- even if you, as a roleplayer, do know! Just remember to try to keep out-of-character and in-character information separate when possible. Start a thread with [OOC] and tag it #ooc to help with this!
3) You can't control other characters without permission. When you're engaged in a roleplay with someone, you can only control the actions of your character. Let's say your character is engaged in combat with another character. Your character throws a punch. Awesome! But it's up to the other roleplayer whether it lands or not. After all, it's possible for them to dodge, counter, spontaneously combust -- anything, really! Just try to always leave room for other players to respond and react to your character, and don't assume how another character will behave in your post. After all, they might surprise you!
4) Make sure to follow the Community Rules and the Terms of Service at all times. The rules exist for a reason! Pay attention to rules posted as the first post in a community (like this one--which will eventually be stickied once that feature exists), and be sure to always be respectful of other players. Remember that in-character actions are completely separate from out-of-character actions!

That "metagaming" is a new one to me. I mean, I knew what it was and that its not really something you should do in an RP, I just never knew what it was called. I always just used to call it extreme OOC or omnipotent OOC.
