How long had he been clinging to this raft? It was just a few logs tied together with rope he'd found, but it kept him above water. The days blended through together, and the nights stretched endlessly. The sun baked, and the moon pierced. The salt water dried his already parched body, giving his purple skin a gray tint. ....This was awful.

Ylli groaned as a wave washed over the raft, simultaneously cooling his skin and making it burn. He would never have thought he would be able to handle such a predicament. He never imagined being in this position. However, feeling a mentally deranged brother who wants to kill you will drive a man to desperate measures. He was so thirsty... He had chosen the watery path to escape his psycho brother, but had he only fled to a different sort of death? ..Why did the sky have to be so clear?

It seemed like no time at all had passed since last Tanda's Kiss had seen a port, and yet, the ship was already running low on supplies. Moral was still flying as high as the sails, which was no doubt due to the special plants they had picked up on the latest raid. Whatever the case, Dominique had less trouble on his hands than usual and the ship was running as smoothly as it could while on a set course.

That is, until a few of his men started up the cry of "Man overboard!". Dominique moved to the starboard side of the vessel, grasping the rigging as he swung his torso over the side around his men to look. Though they made way for him, their curiosity was endless. That is, until the Captain made himself known. They spaced out a bit for the large fox to sidle in next to Dominique to look at the approaching figure.

"Dead or alive's no concern a mine." He said at length before slowly turning to his first mate. The steely look in Dominique's eyes said it all; a life was a life, and all deserved a chance. Oudacite pursed his lips and walked away from the side. "Then yer fetchin' im, not the men. I'll not have any o' my crew wasted after some ship wrecked wolf."

And so it was with heavy paws that Dominique found himself being lowered into the waves with not but a rope around his waist. Getting to the wolf was a bit of a hassle, with the Ocean being what she was, but when he was there, he wasted little time in wrapping a second rope about the other male, this time more securely, and tugging on it so the boys could start reeling them both in.

Dang, the seagulls were noisy. Their racket had sounded like the voices of salvation before, but not they sounded like a bunch of men yelling close by... No. He was doomed to float on the sea forever.

What was splashing nearby? Hmm.. Maybe is was an angler, coming up from deep below to drag him down and end his misery...

Ylli flinched at the sudden touch, dry eyes cracking open to see... a man? How was this possible? It had to be another hallucination. Something wrapped around his waist though, and he blinked quickly to clear his vision. That man was really there... His body spasmed as he was yanked off the raft, having laid in one position for so long. That cleared quickly though, one hand grabbing for the rope while the other weakly clutched to the stranger's arm.

He was being saved...

Dominique moved his arm to better support the male, minding his head so the sea wouldn't drown him in the process. With a surprised turn, he looked to see the pale hand clutching his arm. He hadn't expected it in the least, but took it as a good sign. Maybe he would live through this one yet.

It took a while for the crew to hoist them up to the deck, and once there he gave up hold on the other so that his mates could finish the job. Dominique's arms were taken, hands reaching to help lift his forelegs so that he could stand on deck instead of being flopped down like a fish.

His dark metallic eyes looked around for the stranger, catching briefly the main "healer", if you'd call him that, make his way toward the deck.

The rope chafed his dry skin, but he was in no position to complain. Besides, even if he'd wanted to, his throat was too parched to utter a single word. Just having the contact of another taur bolstered him though, and the pain of the past, well, however long he'd been out here, seemed to fade into the back of his mind. His hope rose back up, and a tiny sigh of relief slipped between his lips.

He dropped to the deck with a thud, and he didn't bother trying to move. It was pure delight to be on something more stable than that makeshift raft of his. Something that was at least partially dry. His ears twitched as he listened to the murmurs around him. Real voices of real men around him. He'd never been so happy to be around a bunch of strangers.

That made him wonder though; what kind of ship was this? What if the men were slavers? Or enjoyed torture? Or- ...eh. He didn't have the energy to worry about that. He would have kissed the wood under his head if he could have. He might even have kissed the paw that was now nudging at his side, primitively checking him for life.

As Dominique stood, he gave his body a shake to knock of the salt water that persisted in causing his tail to droop. It hung heavy behind him as he walked closer to the wolftaur, pushing his way through as a man of rank. He definitely looked like he had seen better days, but then again, hadn't they all?

The men were divided; "...should have let him drown..." "...he'll eat up more of our food..." "...get him a blanket...something warm to drink...".

Dominique vaguely hoped that he would be worth a considerable bounty, but even he knew that would be a stretch. Their physician turned to Ylli, grabbing him up in rough hands and lifting him so he could pound on his back to expel the water. "Come on now lad, breath while ya got the strength ta do it!"

He only idly listened to what they were saying around him. He just wanted to sleep where he wouldn't be thrown around by every little wave that hit what he was on. Being on a ship of strangers... he still felt safer than if he'd been back with...

Groaning as he was suddenly grabbed, the rapid upright motion and the painful pounding on his back brought up more than just the water he'd inhaled. Body shaking from the sudden stimulation and embarrassment, he gave the physician a weak nod. He tried to speak, but he was still too dry and dizzy for that. His body felt shriveled... being in salt water for days. 'Just let me sleep...'

Dominique winced at the harsh treatment. He didn't think that it looked very comfortable, but if it worked then at least his efforts wouldn't be in vain. He didn't turn away from the scene, though some of the men made noises of disdain and more than a few went to look for cleaning supplies.

"There ya go," The physician made circles on Ylli's back and gave him a toothless grin. He clucked his tongue, and gave him another pat just to be sure. "Don't go talkin' yet. You're alive, and we can fix alive. Dead'n we'd have another way a doin' it, wouldn't we?" He made motions around with his head, as if he were looking for someone to take the wolf, but there were no volunteers.

Sighing, Dominique moved forward. He lowered himself out of reach of the expelled liquids and other things, allowing the physician to help maneuver Ylli onto his back. When he was sure he had him he stood and started walking back to his cabin below deck.

Throat burning as he tried to swallow back another urge to vomit, he leaned heavily on the men helping him along. With his attempt successful this time, he was able to try focusing on how his legs worked. Was it really so hard to remember how to walk?

But, instead, he was hanging along someones back. The one who'd gotten him from the raft! Oh.. now he was really glad he'd held back the second wave of his stomach! His arms bent weakly to hold himself on the male carrying him. Where was he going now though? ...Oh, what did it matter? He was on something other than the raft, and he felt his eyelids growing heavy. Was sleeping here a good idea? What if they killed him while he slept?! ...Oh well..... It was hard to care too much.

Slowly the muscled male maneuvered his way below deck. He wound around passages, passing through the galley, even a storage room, before finding the hallway he had been seeking. The ceilings were lower here; something he had to duck down from normally, but now was reduced to a lowered crawl so Dominique wouldn't knock the prisoner unconscious ontop of his other ailments.

When he opened the door a small cabin room was revealed. At one point it had been no more than storage under the Captain's cabin and barely had enough room for a single bed. Still, there were large windows, just like the Captain's, that over looked the sea. That made it all worthwhile.

Dominique lowered the wolf onto his bed, noticing now that his charge had fallen asleep. Probably for the best. Now that he was out of harms way rest was key.

Though, what should he do now? Return deckside, or stay? The day was getting late, Dominique was already worn, so a nap didn't sound too bad. He didn't relish the thought of sleeping on the salty floorboards, but it was better than nothing.

Softly, the foxtaur shut the door, stretched out in the available foot space, and drifted off.

He might as well have been a statue carved out of stone as he slept.

When he woke again, he felt like a hunk of rock. His eyes were gritty, his joints were filled with sand, or salt, and his muscles were baked hard. He gave a dry groan, blinking rapidly to try clearing his vision. Where was he? He shifted to move, and pulled himself to the edge of the bed. Bed? So dried out from his trip, he coughed weakly and felt the taste of blood in his mouth. His throat was so sore and dry...
