Okay, hippies. I know that as hippies, many of you love the Beatles. I know I do. Now... This past Grammy awards ceremony, a bunch of artists got together to do a live performance collaboration of the Beatles' "Across the Universe."
If you missed it, you can watch it
here at CBS.com.
What did you think of it?
I thought it was okay; it was an odd assortment of artists, from Bono to Stevie Wonder to Brian Wilson to Alicia Keys to my superspiffy always-awesome Billie Joe Armstrong. (Though the poor boy seemed a touch overwhelmed by the AtU thing; I don't think he'd ever done something like that before.) Though I adore dear Billie Joe, I have to say that Scott Weiland showed the most confidence and strength behind his porition of the song. I hadn't realized he was such a good singer before. Live performances can really separate the weak from the strong.
However, more importantly, the entire point behind the performance of that song... The performance was recorded, and the MP3 is being sold on
iTunes for $.99... ALL of the revenue generated from selling the song will go to the Tsunami Relief Fund. Good on 'em.
