Okay, hippies. I know that as hippies, many of you love the Beatles. I know I do. Now... This past Grammy awards ceremony, a bunch of artists got together to do a live performance collaboration of the Beatles' "Across the Universe."

If you missed it, you can watch it here at CBS.com.

What did you think of it?

I thought it was okay; it was an odd assortment of artists, from Bono to Stevie Wonder to Brian Wilson to Alicia Keys to my superspiffy always-awesome Billie Joe Armstrong. (Though the poor boy seemed a touch overwhelmed by the AtU thing; I don't think he'd ever done something like that before.) Though I adore dear Billie Joe, I have to say that Scott Weiland showed the most confidence and strength behind his porition of the song. I hadn't realized he was such a good singer before. Live performances can really separate the weak from the strong.

However, more importantly, the entire point behind the performance of that song... The performance was recorded, and the MP3 is being sold on iTunes for $.99... ALL of the revenue generated from selling the song will go to the Tsunami Relief Fund. Good on 'em.

I heard it and hated it for two reasons.

1. Guys as my school say that they hate all rock, but suddenly when a buch of pop singers sing a Beatles song, its considered to be cool.
2. I thought it was horrible singing. All that I hear in pop music today is the whiney boy singing when people try to be goths and just totally screw over a good song.

I'm very sorry, but U2 and Slash are no way compared to the greatness that are the beatles. I couldn't let that song change in my head so I clicked the big red X.

What I don't understaind is, why do people allways ruin great songs by "remaking" them into crap? Why can't they just make their own songs, mabey they just don't have the talent required to do that.

Hell yeah. Slash was awesome when hes in Guns and Rosesl, or Velvet Revolver, or whatever the hell they're calling themselves now, but an 80s guy isnt goin to do to good with a 60s song.

i didn't like it at all. the beatles are original and i don't think some singers should try to re-make their songs. just like Korn trying to re-make Pink Floyd, it doesn't work right! no one can make a song better than it already was, because the artist who made it did it originally it's their piece of work, not someone else's. i personally have A LOT of respect for the beatles and think they are and were one of the best bands ever. few can match up. i think it's disrespectful to try and re-make a song, LIKE IT WASN'T GOOD ENOUGH B4! just like I love Pink Floyd. Korn tried to re-do it. the singing doesn't match right, and the guitar, no matter how hard they try, can not near match up to the high chords on "another brick in the wall" that's all im saying for now. PM me! KEEP THE BEATLES AND PINK FLOYD ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -higoth- heart
