General Info
Custom: FULL! (cause I'm not sure what to put for her, and I want to throw gold at Magesc)
Character Name: Shenra
Race: Orderite
Gender: Female
Clan: N/A
Class: Civilian, laborer, engineer/tinker

Appearance
Shenra has very long, light blue hair, much like this or this (With Kadryn's hair color). While her eyes are a bright sunny pastel yellow, like here in the middle of the dress (the light part). Her skin is rather pale, but not too pale that she looks sick. Even when she's been in the sun, for some reason, she does not tan easily. Her wings are very unique in her immediate family because of her mother and father's wing colors. Her mother has pastel, very light yellow wings with patterns of ribbons of white or a paler white than the yellow, while her father has very light blue wings. She was born with the yellow wings and patterns, but the bottom part is the same light blue of her father's. The white patterns she shares with her mother, go through both colorings. She is the only one of her parent's 5 children that has this coloring, and not even her grandparents on ether side of her parentage have this dual color in their wings.

She loves the steampunk fashion of Ashen City. Because she is little, she has to wear tops with her favorite corsets and skirts. Because she is small, and due to her class, she wears short Victorian era boots. I would make a tektek, but sadly the new items are not there yet ^^"

(Adept will also sport her wearing this type of clothing. Expert and possibly Master will have her wearing sundresses from the country)

She likes to wear earnings that have cuffs on the top of her ear and is linked by a chain to a stud at the bottom of the ear where we (humans) would have a stud. But because of the nature of her work, she doesn't wear anything when she is doing any tinkering.

Personality
Happy: She has two loving parents who teach her things. What else could she ask for? This is one of her weakness in that she can be too happy at times not to notice things, such as other people's true facades.

Trusting: She has no reason not to trust people. Her parents have always dealt honestly not only with her, but with the people they encounter, such as her mother's customers and her father's students. However, this is also a weakness that can get her into trouble as she trusts too much and can get hurt easily.

Studious and Hard Working: She loves to learn and implement her learning. Sometimes to the point of all other things. She would rather be in her mother's workshop working on something her mother had just taught her, or she had just learned. Unfortunately, she becomes oblivious to everything around her, and probably won't notice you are standing there for a while ^^"""

Absentminded/Organized: She has to have her tinkering work area organized. If she doesn't she will probably spend all day looking for something, and of course she finds it ether in the oddest places, or the most obvious. This also helps her when she is checking over her tools.

Questioning: She questions everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Sometimes even her father, whom she thinks knows everything, can't answer her. So she just tries to answer it herself, mostly finding wrong answers. While this helps her with her tinkering, it gets her into trouble with people when talking on the taboo subjects of politics (the great war and race) and religion, (again the great war and race). Her parents try very hard to talk things out with her, especially on these large, "adult" topics.

Cooking: While she inherited her mother's love and gift of tinkering, she also found her knack of liking to cook. Though not as good as her father, or her skills as a tinker, she loves to make things for her parents and siblings to eat. She doesn't tell her other friends she cooks, mostly because she is shy about it. This shyness is mostly because she feels a bit intimidated with her cooking at that stage, and thus why she won't tell anyone outside her family about it. She's not as sure of herself in that area as she is in her tinkering.

Biography/Background

Family
Shenra's mother, Orina: Orina comes from a merchant background in Ashen City, and has learned the family trade of tinkering. She loves to create "projects" that has resulted in several inventions that work rather well, such as a "welder" that allows her to combine two metals together. She has a loyal following of customers and can't complain about life. She has pastel sunshine color eyes, and wings with the same color that has white patterns through out it, her hair is the same color and long.

Shenra's Father, Mirika: Orphaned just before he exited the higher school levels of Serena in Ashen City, he had no trouble moving out out of his parent's upper-middle class roots and trying to establish his own. Choosing to not live with the well to do part of society, he chose to hide his moderate inheritance and find a paying job. He also loves to cook, something the whole family enjoys, especially when he tries something new. He has light blue hair, wings and eyes. His hair is short though and he wears wire rimmed glasses.

Shenra's younger twin brother and sister, Ralina (b) and Reinka (s): Born 10 years after Shenra, Ral and Rei are newborns who demand time and attention. Shenra loves being big sister, except when having to wash their dippers.... Shenra has no jealousy towards them and loves them... Except the dippers.... Ralina takes after his mother in coloring, pale yellow hair, eyes, and wings, and Reinka takes after his father with pale blue hair, eyes and wings.

Family History
Shenra's mother and father met when Mirika was hired as a live in tutor and shopkeeper for Orina's father. In exchange for tutoring his daughter and working in the Ashen City tinker shop, Mirika had room and board. This arrangement was made when Mirika was 19 and Orina 9. As Orina and Mirika worked together and she grew up, Orina developed feelings for Mirika. When Mirika had announced that he could no longer tutor Orina when she was 19, she confessed her feelings for him, and was rather surprised that Mirika returned them, even though he was 29 and she was 19. Mirika said that he never revealed his feelings as she grew because he was, after all, her tutor and she his student.

(Ages can be rearranged, just as long as he is totally older than her ^^" )

They had a traditional wedding soon after.

It was then reviled, not to anyone's surprise, that Shenra had been conceived the same day the two had reviled their feelings for each other.

Mirika adored Shenra from the first moment he laid eyes on her, and was very happy that she had adopted not only Orina coloring (yellow eyes), but his as well (blue hair), not to mention the dual coloring of her wings. "How much more truth do you need that you are proof of our love Shenra?" he would always say to her.

Having a new family, Mirika moved his new family from the shop Orina grew up in to a new area that had a house with a shop and workshop attached to it at the side. It had more rooms, spanning two stories, as well as larger living areas. Shenra grew up learning at her father's knee all that he could teach her, and from the books her father kept in a makeshift study. When she was about 5 Sherna began to follow her mother into the workshop, where she would sit and watch her mother work. Here she would learn the way and love of being a tinker by watching her mother work at the family trade. Soon when she was about 10 she joined in helping her mother work.

It was during an accident in the workroom at this age that led Orina to acquire scars on her back while shielding her daughter. The machine called a “welder” acquired too much pressure while her mother was using it. Orina had noticed just in time the strange behavior of the machine, and had grabbed her daughter and attempted to hide behind the metal forge in the shop. Though she had shielded her daughter from the debris of the explosion, Shenra never forgot the lessons learned from it. While the event itself was scary, she did not fear the machine when her mother rebuilt it. Instead, her mother had unintentionally taught her daughter to check her machines like clockwork, to check her instruments while she works, and give them routine checkups. (While Shenra’s mother would have checked her tools, this “welder” tool was a recent invention of hers and still was testing it out on her work.)

Orina though had been the recipient of the fears of the accident, worried about having her young daughter around her inventions, as well as fears Mirika would never desired her anymore due to her scars and endangerment of their child. Even though Mirika would reassure her, even to the point of making love to her to prove she was still desirable, Orina's fear of constantly putting Shenra (or later any of her children) into danger with her work would take longer to fade.

The result of Mirika making love that one time would lead to Shenra’s twin brother and sister; Ralina (brother) and Reinka (sister). Mirika would tease Orina constantly that if Shenra was proof of their love, these two were definitely proof that he still felt desire for her.

This accident will have already happened by the time Shenra is created, as well as the birth of her twin brother and sister.

The Great Engagement and Races
Thoughts on the War: She greatly wonders why people are still fighting a war that was started thousands of years ago.

Thoughts on the Magescian Races:

Oblivionites: Confused. Because she lives in a city where the majority of the inhabitants are Orderites, she is given the first impression that they are "soulless" shells and are not worth the time of the Ordeite race. However her father has said that every living thing, "soulless" or not, should be respected and judged individually. Can something that feels feelings be so "soulless"?

Orderites: Mixed feelings. While all her dealings in life so far have been with Orderites and have been positive, she has seen how some Orderites mistreat an unsuspecting Oblivionite who wanders in their path. If we are so "righteous" and "pure", then why do we treat them like that?

Dovva: Unsure. The very few she has had contact with kept looking at her like she was going to eat them. To be fair, she thought they would eat her... or turn her into a toad. Magic is... Strange...

Hybrids: Strange beings. While her experiences with this race have been a mixed bag, she still wonders how a person could be two races at once and have happy parents who don't try to kill each other.

Khehora: Interesting, yet unsure. While she has only read about this race, and swore she has seen a Khehorian, she would like to meet a nice one to ask questions about how to fly. Though, she would not like to meet one who would like to eat little girls.

Dragons: Interesting, yet unsure. Again, while she has only read about them, she would love to see one! Though, would they like to see her?

Future Plots
Love Life
She will meet a NPC Dovva boy and his family in her Apprentice stage, and through her Adept stage she will "fall in love" with him. When the time comes for me to punt him out of the picture, he will choose duty over her and marry a wealthy Dovva girl. Unknown to Shenra, this Dovva boy will have been toying with her, and trying to get her into bed, ((thankfully to myself and Shenra, she doesn't go...)) and was going to marry the Dovva girl anyway due to greed.

This will upset Shenra to the point of moving away from home and into the country, as well as developing a sense of mistrust of people outside her comfort zone when it comes to her feelings. During the time between adept and expert, she will have moved into the house that is next to Avani's family. Despite her resolutions, she would allow Avani to enter into her deepest heart, a place she thought no one outside her family could enter ever again. At this time in her life, she would meet another character who would know of the Dovva boy who broke her heart, and would tell her exactly what happened with him; that he married for money, and that she meant nothing to him but a prospective tumble.

While this will lead to more heartache and pain, this character would stay by her side and help her mend. Eventually I would like this character to become her love interest, and eventually her Lifemate.

Tinkering
Her love life aside, I would love to see her become an engineer. This would make her choice as a Tinker ideal, as she loves to build and make new things. Eventually, I would like her to become really good, and have other's take advice from her.

How Her Parents Met
Her mother and father met when her father was hired as a live in tutor and shopkeeper for her mother's father. In exchange for his tutoring and work in the Ashen City tinker shop, he had room and board. This arrangement was made when he was 19 and her mother 9. As her mother and father worked together and she grew up, her mother developed feelings for him, and when he had announced that he could no longer tutor her when she was 19, Shenra's mother confessed her feelings for him, and was rather surprised that he returned them, even though he was 29 and she was 19. He said that he could never reveal his feelings as she grew because he was after all her tutor and she his student.

They had a traditional wedding soon after.

It was then reviled, not to anyone's surprise, that Shenra had been conceived the same day the two had reviled their feelings for each other.

Birth through Apprentice
Her father adored Shenra from the first moment he laid eyes on her, and was very happy that she had adopted not only her mother's coloring (yellow eyes), but his as well (blue hair), not to mention the dual coloring of her wings. "How much more truth do you need that you are proof of our love Shenra?" he would always say to her.

Shenra grew up learning at her father's knee all that he could teach her, and from the books her father kept. This will make her well learned, and have her thinking outside the box as she begins to learn the tinkering trade. When she began to follow her mother into the workshop, she would learn the way and love of being a tinker by watching her mother work at the family trade. Soon when she was about 10 she joined in helping her mother work.

It was during an accident in the workroom at this age that led her mother to acquire scars on her back while shielding her daughter. The machine called a “welder” acquired too much pressure while her mother was using it. Her mother had noticed just in time the strange behavior of the machine, and had grabbed her daughter and attempted to hide behind the metal forge in the shop. Though she had shielded her daughter from the debris of the explosion, Shenra never forgot the lessons learned from it. While the event itself was scary, she did not fear the machine when her mother rebuilt it when she was well enough to. Instead, her mother had unintentionally taught her daughter to check her machines like clockwork, to check her instruments while she works, and give them routine checkups. (While Shenra’s mother would have checked her tools, this “welder” tool was a recent invention of hers and still was testing it out on her work.)

Shenra’s mother though had been the recipient of the fears of the accident, worried about having her young daughter around her inventions, as well the recipient of fears her husband never desired her anymore due to her scars and endangerment of their child. Even though her husband would reassure her, even to the point of making love to her to prove she was still desirable, her fear of constantly putting Shenra (or later any of her children) into danger with her work would take longer to fade.

This accident would be a major source of solo plot for Shenra’s Apprentice and Adept stages as it deals with her training in the art of a tinker and her mother as her teacher.

The result of Shenra’s father making love that one time would lead to Shenra’s twin brother and sister. Shenra’s father would tease her mother constantly that if Shenra was proof of their love, these two were definitely proof that he still felt desire for her. Twice more Shenra's mother would become pregnant in this stage resulting in Shenra's 3rd sibling a second brother, and lastly, the baby of the family, her younger sister. (Apple has a sister who was 11 months younger than her so she could do this as well with the last two or whatever. Math is not my forte ^^"""")

The twins would be born about the time Shenra was still 10 years old, and would be a major part of her plot (as well as the accident in the workshop) as she grows through her Apprentice stage.

Near the end of this stage she would meet at leas one aristocrat Dovva boy who would befriend her and build a friend level relationship. This friendship would not be looked upon highly by the Dovva family if they found out, so they would play in secret when her mother went to the family's house to install recent inventions (Plumbing, hot water heater, ect...) there. This Dovva family could be part of an envoy/ambassadorship of the Celestial Plains to other lands to make their presence there legit.

Adept

Along with her increase of work with her mother, she would begin to see the Dovva boy more and more outside the Dovva family compound. He, being a few years (about 3 years older) older than Shenra (who would be around 16-18 ) would try to lure her into a relationship, succeeding in getting only as far as clandestine kisses away from the eyes of his family and hers as well.

He would tell her things to get her into bed (she wouldn't know that till much later), such as that he loved her and would marry her despite an arranged marriage between his family and another, (ect...), and while she would believe it, she would not go out of respect to him being an aristocrat, and her a merchant. She would not even get into the argument that she was an Orderite and his family would hate her if she did.

She would demand that if he did love her he would leave with her to a place they could be Lifemated, and live away from his family.

After that he would leave a note that he could not marry her out of family duty to marry the girl he was arranged to marry. (This being far from the truth as he just wanted to dump her after that last demand of marriage).

This crushes her young heart, and though her family tried to console her, she finds escape into the rest of her Adept Stage work in the family workroom.

Eventually I would like her to find out this Dovva had entered into this arranged marriage willingly and for the wanting of the huge dowry the woman Dovva would bring with her. This will be information that the person she would actually marry will bring her in her Expert stage, and can help her heal.

Expert and Beyond
At around the age of 22, she would pack up her tinker and personal things, and move away from Ashen City. She would have purchised a "fixer-upper" that she had found for sale in the city, and move out there. This place would be the run down farm that adjoins Avani's new property. She would meet the little Orderite and find her just as curious as she was at that age and take her under her tinker wing and find she could trust the little girl to the point of letting her into the part of her heart she had closed up long ago.

Aside from becoming a mentor for Avani into her hobby, (Avani tinkers when not farming, but not really sure what she loves more), Shenra works fixing odd things for her neighbors, but still works on her "projects". She gets regular visits from her siblings, yet her parents are still attached to the big city and their ways there. Parental visits are far between, yet they make up with all the love they have always shared

While Avani would start her on the path to healing, she would eventually meet ether an NPC or playable character that would shatter her heart again with the truth of her "lost love", yet help her rebuild it fully and become her Lifemate.

Shenra bustled down the streets of the Ashen City, huddled in her coat and hat her grandmother had made her for the winter solstice, heading home from school. As she reached the bottom of the large hill, she heard the trolley clanging behind her. She turned and jumped on as it passed, as she usually did if the trolley came her way at that point in her journey home. She smiled at the conductor, paid her coppers for the fair, and sat back next to the gearman as the trolley chugged up the hill.

Shenra loved riding the trolley. It amazed her as to what made a city full of trollies run, and wished her mother could take her all the time when the machines that pulled the trolley cables needed to be fixed.

“Why, hello Miss. Silverleaf.” Said Lunoc the gearman. “It’s nice to see you again. It’s been a while.”

Shenra turned in her seat and shifted so she was kneeling facing the gearman in the middle of the car. The conductor gathered the coins and ruled the passengers. The gearman was the heart of control of the trolley. Lunoc was big and had large muscled arms, the essentials of a gearman, but despite his large looming presence, he would give Shenra and the other children candies and let them ask him questions when he wasn’t busy. Once he even told Shenra she was possibly the most curious child she’d ever seen on his routes.

“Ma had her babies!” Shenra said smiling brightly, “We all went to Grandma and Grandpa’s house for a while so they could be born there!”

“Well I’ll be!” He smiled brightly, “It’s big sister Shenra I see here then! How about a couple of rings for the new Silverleaf’s!” Lunoc reached up and rang the trolley bell twice two times. Shenra giggled happy her friend rang the bell for her new baby sister and brother. “I guess now, if they are anything like their big sister, I’ll have quadruple the questions when they grow up!”

Shenra laughed out loud. Her friend was teasing her, but rightfully so. Her mother was always worried she’d ask the man too many questions when he was working.

“Your stop is here Miss. Silverleaf.” Lunoc said. He reached into his pocket and pulled out three candies this time, “One for your Ma and Pa too in celebration.”

“Thanks!” Shenra said happily taking the candies.

She stood up on the seat, rang the bell, and with laughter from Lunoc following her, Shenra took her school books and popped off the trolley with the air of child raised in the city.

She ran down the street that led to the house. Despite being several long blocks till her home, Shenra was excited to get home as she was every day. But she wanted to see how her sister and brother were doing. It had been the first few days since they had moved back from their grandparents house to their home, and she wanted to see if they were doing well. Her father and mother had returned to their jobs. Well, her mother was easing back into her job to say the least. Her father didn’t want her overdoing things till she was at least a month behind the birth. Not that would stop her mother, she would just “take it into consideration”.

Shenra turned down the street she lived on and broke into a run as she saw her large house at the end of the circled street. There was a small park across from her house that was tucked at the back. Her house was attached to her mother’s tinker shop were people came through to do business with her. Her house was a three story house but was as narrow as it was tall due to the tinker shop next to it taking up a lot of space

She ran up the steps and entered the door with her usual flourish, but as she went to slam the door shut, she caught it in time to shut it softly. She had to remember that now there were babies in the house, she had to be quieter since they tended to sleep a lot.

She went through the house and placed her books on the old scrubbed wooden table in the kitchen, and as she went upstairs, she shed her coat, hat, and shoes in her room as she made her way to her parent’s room where the babies were at the moment.

She opened the door slowly and saw her mother holding one of them as she fed it from a bottle. She looked up from her job and smiled at Shenra.

“Hello love.” She whispered as Shenra came over to her mother.

It was her baby sister Reinka her mother was feeding. She could tell by the tuffs of blue hair on her head, and her sky blue eyes that were sort of peeking open. Apparently the little one was almost finished with her meal and ready for more sleep. Shenra placed a finger on her soft cheek then went over to one of the low cribs and peeked in on her baby brother, Ralina. She placed a finger on his soft cheek and he moved a bit, then settled down still asleep.

Shenra smiled and beamed at her baby siblings.

“How was school?” her mother asked softly placing the bottle down and putting her sister over her shoulder to burp her.

“It was ok.” Shenra said softly as well. She didn’t want to wake the babies. She went over to her parent’s bed, laid on her stomach, and watched her mother as she waggled her feet in the air. She scrunched her nose and said, “We did art today. I don’t like drawing without a reason. And the colors came out wrong…”

“What were you drawing?”

“We had to do a ‘Picture of Serina’. And we couldn’t draw the Ashen City.” Shenra said as she watched her sister begin to drool. She smiled at the action and continued, “So I did hills with flowers with a lake… But the flower’s colors came out all wrong…”

“Nothing has to be perfect,” her mother said wiping Rei’s mouth, “Will you bring it home tomorrow?”

“Yes.” Shenra said as she heard her sister burp. She giggled and said, “It had to dry.”

“I can’t wait to see it.” Her mother said smiling at her. Shenra smiled as her mother placed her sister in her crib, “Ok Rei, time to sleep a while.”

Shenra pushed herself up to see her sister in her crib and saw her yawn as her mother patted her softly. Her mother then shooed Shenra out of the room and down to the kitchen.

“What’s your homework for today?” her mother said going to the counter and pulling the meat buns out of the warming oven.

“I have to write about what I want to be when I grow up.” Shenra said sitting in front of her books, “I don’t really know what I want to be…”

“It’s alright.” Her mother said smiling at her and placing two buns in front of her, “Just pick something you enjoy doing.” She kissed the top of Shenra’s head and said, “I’ll be in the shop, come and get me if the little one’s wake or you need me.”

“Ok Ma!” Shenra said smiling after her mother.

She looked back at her books and scrunched her face up. She didn’t really know what she wanted to be. But she took her ma’s advice and thought about the things she enjoyed to do. She loved to take things apart and make things better. But she enjoyed making things too, not just take things apart.

She took a meat bun off the plate and chewed in thought about what she would write about.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Shenra was helping her mother with dinner when her father came home. He currently was a tutor for three boys who lived in a well to do neighborhood across the city near the Citadel. It didn’t take him long to get to the house, but he was tired every day he came home. But every time he had a smile on his face, only saying that his greatest joy was being at home.
Shenra greeted him with a hug and after putting his things away, chatting about school.
“And we had homework where we had to write about what we wanted to do when we grew up.” Shenra announced as they entered the kitchen, “I’m still not sure what I want to do, but I finished it.”
“Oh?” her father said with a kind smile, “And what did you write about?”
Shenra bit her lower lip and studied the floor.
“Nothing really.” She said.
She looked up at her father and he had that look that said he didn’t believe her, so she went and got her paper that she had tucked into her books. She joined her father in the kitchen and gave him the paper.
She sat back at the kitchen table and then began to study the patterns on the top of the table. Her father was quiet as he read the short paper. Shenra waited nervously to see what he had to say.
“You really mean this?” he said looking at her. Shenra nodded shyly. Her father smiled and said, “I see no reason why you can’t do this. Though, you should let your mother know.”
“Know what?” Shenra’s mother said wiping her hands on a towel as she moved towards the kitchen table.
“What your daughter intends to do with her life.” Her husband said smiling brightly. He handed Shenra’s paper to her and said, “Read it for yourself.”
Shenra felt even shyer as her mother read it aloud.
“What I Want to Be. By Shenra Silverleaf.”
“I want to be a tinker, and builder like my Ma. She gets to create things that people need and want. I want to help people too with things I can create, even if it’s just for their enjoyment and it doesn’t really serve purpose. My Ma said I should do something I love and enjoy, and I like to do these things a lot. I even get to spend time with my Ma in her shop, and that’s fun too.”
“You feel this way Shenra?” her mother said placing the paper on the table. Shenra nodded, feeling rather shy that her ma had read that. She smiled and said, “If you really want to, I can teach you a bit.”
“You can?” Shenra said excitedly. Her wings popped out and she smiled happily, “I would love to!”
Her parents laughed and her mother bent down and hugged her daughter.
“I would be honored if you would like to be my student.”
“Yes!” Shenra said hugging her mother back, “I want to be the best tinker ever!”
Shenra opened the door from the house into her mother’s shop slowly.
Today was the first day of lessons in her tinkering. She wondered what her mother was going to teach her. Having followed her mother into her workshop since she could toddle, Shenra knew most of every inch of the shop. She knew the names and places of the tools her mother used the most and some of the less used ones as well. What was it her mother could teach her that she didn’t already know?
“Shenra, is that you?” she heard her mother call from the back of the shop.
“Yes Ma!” Shenra said happily stepping into the shop, “I pulled my hair back as you asked!”
She shut the door and went into her mother’s workroom. She found the woman looking at an order slip and in deep thought. She smiled and waited for her attention.
“Oh, there you are.” Said her mother looking down at her. She smiled and said, “Ready for your first lesson?”
“Yes!”
“Good.” Her mother said smiling. She put the order slip down and then sat Shenra in a chair and said, “We’ll go over basic safety today… But you know most of it already.”
Shenra sat happily as she watched her mother bring out her sheron hide apron, and her goggles that she wore.
“You know why we use our apron and goggles.” she said as she held them out, “So that in case something spills it doesn’t ruin our clothes, or if a tool misses its mark it doesn’t tear them either. And our goggles help protect our eyes when dealing with metal shavings or we use the welder.” Shenra nodded and her mother continued, “We also pull our hair back or pin it up so that it’s not in the way.” Her mother put the apron and goggles away and then pulled out the little leather hood she wore too, “Sometimes I wear the hood when I use the visor so that my hair doesn’t get caught, but it’s practical for any other use too.”
She put back the little hood and then turned to her workbench. Shenra turned the chair towards the bench too and looked at the array of tools that were lined up all neat in their holders or cubbies.
“Keeping your tools put away is another way of staying safe, as well as maintaining them. A clean tool will not only work better, but it will last a long time too.” Her mother then stepped over to the welder that she used and said, “You know my welder is a special tool, and I keep it maintained all the time so that I don’t have an accident while using it.” She looked at Shenra with a sad look and said, “The one accident I did have with this was not from lack of care, but lack of paying attention.”
“It’s ok Ma.” Shenra said jumping from the chair and going up and hugging her mother, “I know you didn’t do it on purpose.”
Shenra remembered most of that day, she didn’t remember the explosion, but she remembered her mother being scared and then in pain. But what she did learn was that she should take care of her machines and tools. If she did this and checked the welder often while she used it, then she wouldn’t have any problems with it.
“Thank you my love.” She said hugging the little girl back. Her mother broke the hug and smiled at her daughter, “Just remember that you should be careful while you are working, not just with the welder. A lot of accidents happen to tinkers and engineers because they weren’t taking precautions or care with their tools.”
“I know Ma.” Sherna said smiling. She then looked at the welder and said, “When do I get to use it?”
Her mother laughed and said, “Not till you are a bit older my dear, and that’s because I was only older that you were when my father introduced me to such things.”
Shenra nodded. She understood she would have to wait to get to do some things she wanted with the welder because she was still small. And she knew that even though she had the right amount of respect and caution with such tools, she still probably couldn’t control it as much as her mother, or an older person, could.
“Shall we get started with naming tools and how to care for them then?” her mother said.
“Yes!” Shenra said with a smile.
Because the first thing a tinker learned was safety before any actual work.
