Hey everyone!! I just finished a really boring English repsonse and have tons of homework to do aside from that, but in the name of the Procrastination Gods, I feel like starting a quick thread.
Well, I'm an art student who will transfer to a university for a degree in apparel design. I want to move to New York for my third year of college to go to FIT (the Fashion Institute of Technology).
What I'm asking from you guys is about your interests in the fashion world. Does your taste for fashion come from a specific culture? I prefer Western fashion, but I am aware a lot of you guys like Eastern sub-cultures. This IS the information age, however, so you all these fashion styles are constantly touching each other, if not always affecting each other.
Either way, I just want to chat about modern, minimalist, and good fashions. I love costume- lolita, neo-history fashions, cosplay, ALL of it! When it comes down to it though, my professional/personal tastes push towards modern, higher fashion.
All in all, just chat with me about fashion. emotion_kirakira

I realize that this is an older post, but I figured I'd post anyway. It seems this guild is dying a bit, so why not help it back on it's feet?
I used to extremely interested in fashions such as Lolita, fairy kei, pastel goth, and such, but have since branched into more western styles. I think this may be more because they're easier to get a job in (lol), and I'm more exposed to them, but I honestly do like the wide range of colors more than just pastels all the time.

FIRST WORDS GO HERE OKAY LOL
I think those clique-costumey fashions are kind of hard to work with, because they force their markets to a niche. I've always preferred western fashion because it feels more mature as well. A niche is basically a fad with specific following, and fads die fast. I'd rather keep myself busy with more interesting fashion.
That said, I freakin' LOVE a lot of the lolita fashions, but my biggest preference is for neo-history fashions, like steampunk and dieselpunk. emotion_bigheart

Ahah, yep, not much maturity in Angelic Pretty or Cute Can Kill, but classic Lolita I think is very mature. It was never quite my style, but now I'm considering getting into a more tone-downed version of it, since that's pretty close to acceptation in the west.
I know what you mean by the fad thing, I absolutely ADORE gyaru (not that ganguro stuff lol), particularly hime and kogyaru, but they're pretty much dead. :/ I've noticed that in western, not particularly styles go out of, well, style, but specific types of clothes and prints do. I can bet you no one will give a s**t about pineapples or high-waisted girlfriends (shiver) in a year.
Ah, I enjoy those, but I don't know much about them since I barely look into them, ahah.

Some of the leather products are what really get me to want to spend thousands of dollars on steampunk products. There's a jacket that made it into a recent steampunk fashion catalog-type book. I looked it up and it's really popular still because it's so freakin' sexy. emotion_drool

Ahah, leather does look pretty damn sexy, but I prefer faux, as I'm a vegetarian. sweatdrop

Oh, I can understand that, it's very respectible! I love real leather but I think that's as far as I can go. I remember seeing a fur coat when I was a kid in a magazine. I didn't think about it much but I kept staring at the model and then I counted the fox tails.
