Personality: Balchas doesn't really think of his mother too much, It hurts when he does and he doesn't like feeling upset at all. It confuses him. He's somewhat vain in the fact he likes to keep himself fit and well dressed. He can sometimes be a little bit arrogant but he never means it in a nasty way, if called out on it he will apologise but if he thinks he knows better he's likely to remind you later on when your plans go awry. He likes to surround himself with people, being alone frightens him, it's his greatest fear.

He's slightly awkward around women though, he's passed puberty but he still doesn't feel entirely comfortable if taking anything further than casual flirting. When Flights have passed over the Weyr he prefers to stay under the radar but he's definitely not a virgin, he much prefers to forget the entire thing and hurries off the 'morning' after. He doesn't feel any resentment towards his sister for being taken in by their mother's family.

Physical Description: Balchas has black hair, it's slightly curled and in humid weather it gets a little out of control so he likes to keep it cut rather short. He's got dark skin, darker than the fishermen after they've been away at sea in the sun. (think half caste). He's rather tall and squarely built, he has a lot of physical strength and it's rather obvious. He works on his figure where he can, he often takes on the extra work heaving firestone sacks.

History: Balchas grew up in the weyr just like any other Weyrborn brat, however unlike many he knew his father, the man had been working in the caverns when Belas' Green rose, he was a regular visitor as Balchas was growing up, though slightly less so when his sister was born. Balchas was a happy child until the day his mother died in a training accident. Balchas closed himself off, not even fighting when his mother's family took his sister to live with them, he would have gone too but his father felt it was better for him to stay.

For the next turn Balchas functioned almost on auto pilot, he did his chores, he let himself go, he just did everything without much passion. It wasn't until his first Hatching, his father had felt it best to keep him from Hatchings for a while but after a while he changed his mind and let him Stand, nothing else had been working to bring Balchas out of the depression he seemed to have.

In that hatching he had stood there as Hatchling after Hatchling Impressed, the second to last hatchling was pretty aggressive and had trampled all over him, the pain snapping him out of his funk. After that he slowly came back round to his usual self, slowly gaining friends again, working out and such but it was a while before he smiled freely again. He's now back on track, working out, relaxing with friends, etc. He was happy to see his sister again when she returned from their mother's family's farm. It had hurt at first, the reminder of their mother but once the initial shock was over he was happy, greeting her like a big brother should. He's pleased that his sister never saw him in his depression and he hopes his sister Impresses.
