Of all the Weyrs that existed (and Neri had been to a few) Ista had one distinct advantage over the others that would keep her coming back, however much she missed her old home in Igen. Which was that -while other Weyrs had a lake- Ista had a Bay. In other words, it was open to the Ocean. Neri was humming her favourite song as she walked down to the Bay, green dragon following behind, a old sea shanty her mother used to sing to her before she died. It was lovely weather for sailing; good visibility, but not too hot, with just the right amount of wind. It was about an hour till dusk.

Being an old friend of the Weyrleader might have certain perks too, like being allowed to keep a small sailing ship harbored there, as long as she promised to donate any haul she brought in back to the Weyr’s kitchens. Bayeth dove into the Lake while Neri went around to where her boat was stowed. Her brother was supposed to be here to help her, but had gotten caught up with something else instead. It’s not that it was impossible to handle alone, but it wasn’t easy, especially without the hoard of firelizards that P’lias had to help him. And anyway, she’d been hoping for the company.

Perhaps she could convince one of these hapless beach-goers to come with her.. With a little underwater assist from Bayeth, Neri dragged the boat back closer to the shore, jumping between the stones that lined the cliffside. Bayeth's head splashed up behind her. "Say, can I interest anyone in a fishing excursion?" she asked the usual group of bathing riders and candidates/weyrlings on their day off.

((Hope this is alright ^^ ))

((Works fine! biggrin ))

It was no surprise to Saenshu that he had managed to find himself loitering at the beach, walking along the water's edge and simply taking in the sights and smells of the Weyr's coastal location. The candidate life was indeed a rigorous one, and although he had nothing against learning about dragons and what he were to do if he somehow impressed, his true love was not on dry land. The sea might as well be a siren, because it called him to him like no other.

A small smile crept onto his face as he observed people in his favored environment, finding satisfaction in knowing there were others who enjoyed his passion just the same, even if for different reasons. It was then he heard a voice asking if anyone wanted to fish. If his ears could have physically perked he would have looked like an excited puppy, and he turned towards Neri and quickened his pace to approach her.

"Fishing excursion? Count me in!" His eyes lingered on her for a moment before shifting towards her boat, his grin growing. "I'm jealous you have a boat here. What I'd give to be able to go out to sea at leisure during my time as a candidate." He then noticed Bayeth, offering a wave to her. His experience around dragons wasn't significant just yet, but he hoped that would change since he had bothered to come to the Weyr in the first place. Extending a tanned hand, he returned his gaze to hers. "M'name's Saenshu, nice to meet you."

Neri was surprised to see the young man hastening towards her. There were often people interested in coming with her, it was a well known fact that she would take anyone out who wanted to go, so long as she had the time. But rarely did she see such enthusiasm. He must be a ex-fisherman, she thought.

"Oh, a Candidate, huh?" she said, taking the man's hand. "A fisher?" she queried. She would still be happy for the company, if not, but it would be easier and more fun if he were. And she was curious to see if her guess was right.

Bayeth asked eagerly, mind swimming at the prospect of blues, browns, bronzes even.
Neri corrected her.
she said, ducking back under the wave, interest gone.

Choosing not to relate that little gem of conversation. She looked at the boat and laughed, "I'm just lucky my Bayeth hatched in the same clutch as Ticene's and Ryn's. It is helpful when you want to pitch a hairbrained idea to the Weyrleaders if you know them first." She grinned. "And.. it doesn't hurt the cause if we can bring a boatload of fresh fish back to the Weyr kitchens once in a while. So.. are you ready to fish?"

"Oh, and I'm Neri!" she added. "Sorry, should have led with that."

His grip was firm but friendly as he shook her hand, and after a moment broke loose in order to wipe the sweat from his brow. Brushing the hair from his eyes he nodded. "Yup, been fishing all my life. Well... except for right now, I guess." Shrugging, he gave a somewhat defeated laugh. "Can't say I'm much happy about that. Maybe it will end up being worth it, though." He began to wander closer to her boat, hand patting the side of it affectionately.

As he listened he nodded, his eyebrows raised as he indeed found her quite lucky to have had her dragon born from the same clutch. Interesting, too. "That's quite the perk," he grinned. "You are definitely using it in the best ways, too, if I might say." His enthusiasm was still extremely obvious, it had been some time since he had gotten to sail away from the crowds. Even with new company, he believed it would be just as relaxing as the last time he did it.

With the sharing of her name he paused, looking towards her with his pale eyes. "Oh, Neri, that's a nice name." He figured if they'd be spending time together he'd show a little more than common courtesy, and smiled. "And I was born ready. No qualms with giving what we catch to the kitchens.. I just like the act of fishin'."

Neri returned his grip in kind, returning her hand to her hip after she after her let go. She looked at him with a mixture of sympathy and amusement. "You sound like my brother." she said. "He impressed from the Stands last clutch. Of course, he loves his Helioth plenty. But he was none to happy to find out he couldn't go back to the Hold afterwards." She winced, remembering.

She blushed slightly at the complement, not that you could tell much under her deep tan. She nodded at his last statement. "A man after my own heart" she agreed. "Now let's get going!" she added, hopping into the ship and offering a hand for him to do the same. Rather than have it tethered there with a rope, Neri had Bayeth helping keep it in place with her tail. And anyway, the wind was low enough that without the sail to help, it wasn’t going anywhere fast.
