"We have to be discreet."

"I know, I know!"

"Get Tesrinth to tell him not to give us away; she has more sway with the bronze."

"Don't tell me what to do-- Did you get Halusilth to tell her to do that! Goodness, I could have done it very well myself!"

I don't mind Halusilth speaking to me, and Zelith will not give you away~ The green was in bright spirits, sunning herself out on her ledge and keenly listening to the banter going on between Mei and Hennory through her rider's eyes and ears. That was something they'd been practicing in Weyrling training, and Tesrinth was absolutely obsessed with this new ability that she didn't quite know she had. Right now though, there wasn't much to see other than the large bassinet that both Mei and Hennory were carrying. They had combined their marks to buy it, a lovely think made of sky broom, with the inside padded with the very safe, non-fluffy version of a mattress typical for all newborns. It was certified by the master craft seal, which was the only reason Mei would deign to buy it. The bassinet had to be of good quality, and safety assured. That was not all; infant-certified gifts inside such as a baby's blanket, one side bronze-tan and the other one a nice green. They'd custom ordered that one. There were also crafter made pacifiers, a set of special-fabric nappies that were meant to reduce diaper rash, and powder.. lots of baby powder, whatever the Pernese equivalent of it is.

Needless to say… the Weyrlings were both now very broke; the only reason they were able to afford such opulent things was because Mei'd gotten quite the nice amount of coin on a hefty wager she'd bet on with T'rel at one point and time. It was a cheap shot bet, so it only felt fair to give it back in her own way.

"Okay, this is the one."

Correct. Halusilth's mind voice carried with it a mental yawn, if it were ever possible. Tesrinth wordlessly agreed in Mei's mind as they carefully set their present down. Mei gestured to Hennory. "You do the honors."

He inclined his head politely, as if accepting some sort of great gift. Mei knew of course he was being ironic. However, the tall redhead did reach out and knock upon the large wooden door.

Zelith was amused by the weyrlings' antics. He did not understand the concept of gifts: but knew that his mate was going to clutch in several months. He did not alert T'rel of their intent, nor that they were on their way to see him. Instead,he rumbled with amusement. These humans, they make as much a deal about one of you clutching one egg, as they do Calith clutching thirty. He gave a snort, watching his rider with one great green whirling eye. Must I to, rush over and congratulate you, Mine? Do you expect gifts? Shall I bring you a wherry?

T'rel grinned at his bronze's sarcasm, shaking his head. He strode over, effectively distracted, and scratched Zelith's neck ridges. "You already have. No gift could ever compare to what you gave me, Zellie."

Perhaps we should throw a feast? Invite everyone in the Weyr?

"Shells, no." T'rel winced at the idea. "We may be harpers, but even we desire peace and quiet!" It had felt as if everyone in the Weyr had already congratulated him. Some of them, loudly. He looked up at the knock. Zelith hadn't warned him of visitors. Huh. "Come in," he said.

Oooh, this was quite exciting! They'd never been in T'rel's weyr before. Mei crowded to get in, but Hennory was the wary one. He opened the door and Mei pushed through, trying to obscure the large gift with her tiny frame. "We've got something for you!"

Hennory hoisted the bassinet by himself. It was nice to have Mei's help on the long trek down the halls, but he could easily carry it the short distance into the room.

"Sorry that we've been a little ah.. low key about the whole situation. We were really hoping to surprise you and we didn't want you figuring it out." And scarce they had certainly made themselves, the typical banter that they might have shared with he Weyrlingmaster cut a little short as the pair seemed to always have some urgent 'thing' they needed to go do instead of stay after and chat. Tesrinth, though not keen on deception, had certainly called for her rider rather insistently on a few close calls. One usually didn't question when they said they had to tend to their dragon. It made for a wonderful excuse.

Something, for him? T'rel quickly turned around to look at Mei, surprised. He hadn't expected anything; after all, both weyrlings had seemed to be avoiding him outside of lessons. His eyes lit up when he saw what Hennory carried, and he moved to take the bassinet from him. "You certainly were low key about the whole thing," he grinned, looking at Mei. "I didn't suspect a thing. Is this what you were doing when you were supposed to be tending to your dragons?"

It wasn't saying much, that T'rel had failed to realize their true intent. He tended to be gullible, and trusted others to a fault. "You did all of this--for the baby?" He asked, stunned at the amount of marks he was sure they must have spent on this gift. "Shards, Mei. I don't know how to thank you. This is... no one's ever done something like this for us." He paused, glancing towards where Rumith would have been resting if the green had been present. "Lute's down on the shore," he said, by way of explanation. He set the bassinet down and wrapped his arms around Mei.

"Thank you."

"Don't worry, I always make sure my 'tend the dragon' fire lizard tales are for good reasons.'" Mei remarked with a grin, but she nor Hennory took the comment with any offense that they may not be caring for their dragons, understanding it for what it was. Goodness knows if Halusilth and Tesrinth needed as much tending as they'd been using as an excuse, one would swear they were still monthlings.

"We figured, but that's alright. It's been a little difficult with finding a good time to bring it up when it's not say… late, or too early to do so." Hennory stated. Goodness knows they didn't want to walk in on anyone in their nightgown.

Despite themselves, the two weyrlings couldn't help but give the weyr a few glances around the weyr, far bigger than the weyrling weyr both Hennory and Mei roomed in. With their dragons finally beginning to fill out to full size, their tails often hung over the side of their ledge. They were perhaps a touch envious, and excited to get their own eventually. Then again, their quarters would still be smaller than T'rel's. considering neither of them needed to house a huge bronze.

While Hennory played it cool and merely let Mei do most of the talking, he still wore a small slit of a smile on what was normally a cold and formal face.

Mei gave a slightly dismissive wave of her hands, her dark cheeks actually giving a bit of a blush. "Oh! Please, we did exactly what we wished to do. Shopping for baby things was a HUGE amount of fun!"

Hennory actually shifted a bit at Mei's statement, crossing a look at her that was part trepidation, part intrigue. Was Mei getting a touch of baby fever? As attracted to her as he was, Hennory wasn't quite sure what to think of that. A Hennory x Mei baby.. what would it look like? At that point, Hennory was completely lost /between/, mentally, staring off into space with a very thoughtful expression.

"Either way, I suppose here's where I should say 'you're welcome' so.. I just did." Mei said with a smile that was so huge it almost looked painful.

"I'd prefer if you didn't use it regularly," T'rel agreed. If she did, he would never know when she was really caring for her dragon. He had wondered if Mei's dragon had patchy skin; with her alarming need to tend to Tesrinth. "I'm always free around this time," he assured them, with a smile. "You're always welcome here."

He let go of Mei, and clapped Hennory on the shoulder. "Thank you," he said. "I'm sure you didn't enjoy the shopping nearly as much." He knew he hadn't appreciated being dragged to shop for Naoni. They'd gone to the hold before Io had given birth, and he'd found that moving from stall to stall wasn't a cup of sweetened klah.

"What do you think the baby will be?" He wondered aloud. "Boy or girl?"

Mei took a step back from the embrace, the grin still wide on her face.

Broken from his thoughts, at first he looked a touch surprised, but quickly came back down to Pern. Hennory gave a somber nod as the bronze rider clapped his hand upon the tall redhead's shoulder. His mouth gave way to a small smile. "I am rather immune to it, I'm afraid. My foster mother managed to instill a certain stamina when it came to shopping. However.. yes I'd agree that she enjoyed it substantially more than I did."

The blue rider gave a helpless little shrug.

"Girl" "Boy"

They'd answered at the same time, and Mei shot a look at Hennory. "No way, I'd bet marks it'll be a boy. Why on Pern would you say girl? I'd think men would always bet on it being a boy."

For a moment, Hennory almost seemed to fluster. Had she just called him a man? That was certainly refreshing. "Perhaps I merely want to disagree with you."

"As is typical!" Mei said with a scoff.

"Perhaps when we're graduated, we'll make more of an effort to come by sometime. Don't want people thinking we are your favorites." Hennory said smoothly, giving a wink towards the Weyrlingmaster.

"Ahhh, my foster mother never managed it." Not that Lavali hadn't tried: by the age he might have taken an interest in what he wore, he'd been apprenticed. "Of course she did," he added, with a playful wrinkle of his nose. "Women always do." He paused, grinning at their answers. "Whichever gender it is, we'll be happy. It'll be the first time I get a chance to really know them. I won't be able to be around all the time, duties: but I'll be there as much as I can." He smiled brightly at the Weyrlings.

"You know I don't have favorites," he said, mock sternly. He shook a finger at Hennory, and then grinned, ruining the stern weyrlingmaster image he'd been going for. "Thank you, really, for doing all this."
