What is a Hatching?
Hatching day is very important to all Pern, this is were the dragons will impress to a candidate and the life bond of dragon and rider start. Dragons in the Weyr will react to the Queen's maternal croon with a deep hum. People react to this humming on an emotional level, ranging from utter happiness to fear and sadness. Healers are always attending hatchings because of the injuries that may occur due to mauling.
The humming is the first signal that candidates must be on the sands. Wearing their given white robes and sandals and free of any firelizards. They often line up for a last minute check by the Candidatemaster before entering the sands in two lines. Standing several feet away from hatching eggs, Candidates must wait for the dragons to approach them. Any distraction to the hatching dragons is frowned upon as it raises the chance of a baby being confused and going between. Or the death of a candidate. Queens are very protective of their brood at this time.
Everyone is welcome to attend the occasion if they are present at the time of hatching.

Impression
Impression is the joining of minds of dragon and his or her rider to be. At the moment of hatching the dragon, not the rider, chooses his or her partener and telepathically communicates this choice to the chosen rider.
Golds will only Impress to heterosexual females.
Bronzes will only Impress to heterosexual males.
Browns Impress to males of any sexuality, and have been known to Impress to females.
Blues will Impresd to anyone, regardless of gender or sexuality.
Greens will Impress to anyone, regardless of gender or sexuality.

Hatching Rules
- As always, staff word is law.
- Don't attach yourself to one egg. Might well be a dud!
- Please don't ask for a specific color.
IC Rules
- Obey the Candidatemaster at all times
- Bow to the gold on the sands before lining up within the Hatching Grounds
- Don't touch the hatchlings
- Don't approach a hatchling.
