"Mm. I promise." Kyouya had already slipped into the water up to his chin, eyes half-closed. The last words of a doomed man, he supposed. Still, if he was doomed, the water felt heavenly. The normally tightly-wound Shadow King felt the edges of the tension he constantly carried starting to wear away. But at the skiing question, he cracked one dark eye open. "No, I'm afraid not." And oh, did he sense more impending doom there. He'd never learned how; a side effect of his family not being one of the ones that did that kind of thing. A soft deflection, then. "But the cousins snowboard, and I know the twins both snowboard and ski. I'm sure they can teach you."

With Tamaki's logic, it was either that you knew how to do something and you would be joining(and possibly teaching him how to do it), or you didn't know how to do it and you'd be joining the blond in the learning experience. So really, the king's next response shouldn't have come as much of a surprise to his friend. "Then we'll ask Honey-Senpai and Mori-Senpai to teach us both!" Because Tamaki really didn't want the devil twins to have a part of teaching him anything...
He was always open to learning new things, and he needed to learn it all before their small vacation was over, in... "Four days...?!" His panicked movement caused minor waves in the hot spring. "Skiing, snowboarding, sledding... is there more? Will there be enough time?" Not to mention, they were going to get everyone together and bring them on a group trip to the onsen as well.
Tamaki wanted to make the most of this trip, especially since at home he was still giving a lot of his time to his family. This trip was all about spending the time with the host club though, his other family, without those other worries. "I'm glad I was able to come along." He smiled.

The Host King--- Tamaki With Tamaki's logic, it was either that you knew how to do something and you would be joining(and possibly teaching him how to do it), or you didn't know how to do it and you'd be joining the blond in the learning experience. So really, the king's next response shouldn't have come as much of a surprise to his friend. "Then we'll ask Honey-Senpai and Mori-Senpai to teach us both!" Tamaki wanted to make the most of this trip, especially since at home he was still giving a lot of his time to his family. This trip was all about spending the time with the host club though, his other family, without those other worries. "I'm glad I was able to come along." He smiled. Yes, that was exactly the doom he'd been expecting. "If we go together, who'll be taking the pictures for the photo books?" Kyouya pointed out, very reasonably. "You don't want to leave that to the twins." He closed his eyes again, breathing in the steam, and feeling the warmth of the water sink into every pore. Mm ... why bother with all that activity ... ? But he knew that Tamaki loved everything new and exciting. "I suppose it depends on how much you want to focus on each," he said. "There's only so much time, so you'll have to choose carefully. Besides, it's not like we can't take another snow vacation during winter break next year." He caught that quiet undercurrent in his best friend's voice -- how could he not? -- the one that said he'd been missing his host club family, and he pushed a soft ripple of water at him. "We're glad you could too." I'm glad you could too.

Perhaps a small part sane logic existed in the blond's mind, as the mention of giving the twins camera right caused a frown to appear on his face--- those two had good photoshopping skills, and could easily be used in the wrong way. "Ah, you're right..."
Tamaki sunk into the water up to his mouth, and even without seeing the upturning of that lower lip, it was easy to see that he was pouting once more. "I want Kyouya to teach me ice skating..." It was true he had asked Shiny for that honor already, but he hadn't seen much of the blonde hostess since they arrived. She had at least helped him onto the rink though. Rising again, he fell back against the rocks once more, "On top of the group trip to the onsen, maybe we could go sledding then as well? It's something all the guests can participate in." As king, it was important that he observe the guests in his own manner. His guests happiness meant a lot to him.
As did his host family.
That smile of his didn't leave his face as he laughed lightly and sent a return ripple(which was more like a small wave) back at his friend. No words really needed to be said between the two, it perhaps being a male thing to silently communicate between each other--- though the host king was rather confident in his ability to read his best friend. "Speaking of trips! When are we going to go to Hokkaido?!"

"I already said I would." Baka. But the mild impatience in Kyouya's voice was interlaced with what might have been a touch of affection. He pulled himself further up on the rocks, baring his shoulders to cool off slightly. "You mean sled before the onsen, or sled to the onsen?" With his glasses off, Tamaki's face was more of a blur, and harder to read -- and it wasn't like the idea was the most impractical one his best friend had had. Ever the practical one himself, he began to mentally trace over the route to determine if it were even possible. He blinked, partially taken by surprise -- Hokkaido ...! -- and then laughed, that almost-evil laugh that seemed reserved only for his best friend. "I should have known you would never forget about that. I suppose it's a good thing I never got rid of those guidebooks. When will your grandmother let you go, though?" That so-called goblin's smile subsided, somewhat -- that question was serious, and earnest.

"Yes! I'm holding it up to you, Kyouya!" Something else the host could look forward to now! Not only were the two of them able to fully able to enjoy this onsen to the fullest, but Tamaki had just gotten permission to wake Kyouya for ice skating lessons! (No you didn't, Tama.) He was quickly reminded of all those fun trips the two of them used to take in middle school--- and yes, that fully included hot spring trips as well. "Of course I meant bef---" A lightbulb seemed to click on over his head then, as if his friend had given him a bright idea... which honestly he kind of did. "Do you think Nozawa does sleigh rides, Kyouya?" It might take awhile if they couldn't get more then more, but the guests would certainly enjoy the ride to the onsen...
It was then that the simple-minded blond blinked owlishly at Kyouya's laughter, a mix between confusion and half happiness to see his best friend finally relaxing and letting himself go. It brought that silly grin to his own face. This was the real Kyouya. "Grandmother expects me to sit in on more meetings and shadow Father as much as possible." The idea clearly had Tamaki down, but he still held that half-expected smile--- even if he was sad about it, he was doing it for his father. Honestly, if his grandmother had a say, he half-expected he wouldn't get to see his host club family at all during the summer. But... "I talked about it with Father though and he thinks the end of summer would be okay for two weeks?" It was actually a very generous chunk of time. Perhaps the Suou heir had deserved it?

Kyouya considered the question, tilting his head up to watch the clouds skid across the sky. "I don't recall seeing any," he said slowly, "but that doesn't mean there aren't any, or that we couldn't make it happen. I'll put it on my to-do list for later tonight." That reflective expression hadn't left his face when he turned back to look at Tamaki, and slid a bit back more into the water again. "Yes. I wouldn't expect less." The open-ended statement indicated both sides of the coin -- Tamaki's devotion to his family, and his grandmother's determination about the company. "But at least it should be interesting ... " Tamaki's half-smiling, half-sad expression nudged that half-psychic sense of Kyouya's -- "and you have to have lunch sometime." A subtle indication of you know we'll kidnap you if we have to."Two weeks?" he echoed. That was a very generous chunk of time, in Kyouya's reality. He would have to ask his own father. Of course, he had the leverage of "spending time with the Suou heir" ... that might be enough. He mentally ran over his calendar. "I'm pretty sure I don't have anything I'm personally involved in scheduled for then, but I don't know about my family. I'll have to check."

Tamaki could always count on Kyouya. Even for the little stuff. At one point he wouldn't have doubted that it was done strictly for the merit of getting close to him--- something Tamaki had always been aware of but never cared about. And while the dark-haired host had done well to keep up that image, the Suou heir knew it had developed to much more then that since the first day they had met.
The goofball of a blond gave a knowing smile at his best friend and laughed a bit, "Thanks Kyouya!"
But he would make sure it was more then just lunch. While he wanted to please his grandmother desperately, there was no way he could so easily forget about the host club again--- he had made an unspoken promise to spend time with them more. Tamaki Suou didn't make promises he couldn't keep.
"Yeah! You've owed me a trip to Hokkaido since middle school, so I'm not letting you off easily!" Not that much of a fight would have to take place, and even if he did... that was nothing a set of puppy dog eyes couldn't handle. "How are things with your family?" It was rare for the topic to be brought up, and Tamaki respected Kyouya's privacy on the subject, but occasionally the second year couldn't help but be concerned enough to ask, even if the answer was lacking in extreme details.

Fortunately, this was one moment where those puppy-dog eyes weren't needed. Tamaki's declaration of not letting him off easily was simply met with lowered eyelids and a knowing smile in return. Kyouya wanted to go. And the two of them would likely have a long discussion of all the sights to see and things to do. He caught himself thinking -- almost as if it were traitorous -- This will be fun.He kept his eyes down as he considered the question -- not really an evasion, but a pause as he thought over what he could and couldn't say. "My sister's doing well enough. She and her husband are trying for a baby -- you know that, right? but no luck yet. She comes over once or twice a week, still. Next time I'll call you." A touch of softness, perhaps. Kyouya knew how well Fuyumi and Tamaki got along. "Yuuichi's been busy with his residency, Akito's been trying to meddle in my business as usual," those lowered eyes looked back up, and they were momentarily razor-sharp, then softened again. "Mother's been out of town for the past few months, and I don't expect her back until mid-March, though we might go visit her one of these weekends. Father ... well." He's Father. "You know, the usual. Business, luncheons, golf, cocktail parties, group meetings." But at least he's usually home for breakfast, and at least he listens. Sometimes.

Tamaki actually did know that, as he who was actually rather close to Kyouya's sister--- they were pursuing a commoner-food tour together after all. "I'm so happy for Fuyumi-san. She'll make a wonderful mother!" The blond had no doubt about it, as the woman was such a fun and clearly caring person. Kyouya's promise to call him when she was over next only proved to brighten his mood, "Oh, please do! I haven't seen Fuyumi-san in such a long time." Even if they did exchange phone calls and details on the commoner tour on occasion. Not that Tamaki needed that excuse to go visit his friend at his home.
The other news also wasn't all that surprising to him, though he clearly wasn't as excited over it as he had been over the news of his best friend's older sister---- she was actually that older sister figure to Tamaki as well. "I saw Yoshio-san at one of those parties not too long ago." He managed a weak smile at his friend. It was of no secret that Tamaki had been shadowing his father in the business world when his free time deemed it. While their fathers exchanged words of business, Tamaki never had much to say to the male and had kept it to it's proper formalities unless the older Ootori asked anything of him. "He had asked me about you, though I don't really understand why..." That had been it.
If Tamaki were to be honest, Kyouya's father was actually a very intimidating man. Respectable. But still intimidating. "Father wants me to attend a few more parties as well. Casual dinner parties held by outside parties, will you be attending them with your family, Kyouya?"
Lifting a hand from the water, it was then that he noticed his skin was beginning to prune from the prolonged exposure to the water. Had they already been in there so long?

If he were honest with himself, Tamaki's bright face, blurred though it was, always made him a little happier. It wouldn't be hard for Kyouya to keep that particular promise. Those dark eyes flicked upward at the mention of his father. "He did?" There was an unspoken, though obviously inflected that's interesting, at the end of that simple question. He filed that bit of information away to overthink mull over later. At the question about the parties, he nodded. "Yes, I usually do, if schoolwork doesn't end up taking priority. Most of the time, I've already got it done, though. Father's very insistent that I make as many as possible." There were reasons Kyouya ended up so strictly scheduled; he had a lot on his plate -- and didn't want to entirely miss out on relaxing at least sometimes. This trip really had been a godsend, on the relaxation front. Though he was starting to overheat. He worked his way back to the side of the bath and acquired his towel. "Mm, I think I'm done, or close to it." He hoisted himself out and covered up, leaving just his feet dangling in the water for the moment while he tried to readjust to the cooler air.

The news brought that sheen back to the blond's eyes as he followed Kyouya to the edge of the spring to retrieve the towels. "Then maybe we'll see each other there." Though the words obviously were camouflage for... "I'll come and find you!' While the parties required a certain about of etiquette, it would still make the stiff dinner party a little more enjoyable if he could look forward to seeing his best friend there.
"Mah, just as we were getting caught up too." Tamaki might've been pouting as he hoisted himself from the water and wrapped his own towel around himself. But really, it was a miracle the two had managed to find time to 'catch up' to begin with--- "I like it here. Do you think we could come back next year as well?" He smiled a bit, taking a moment to stop and look at the smaller outdoor onsen, then up at the view from beyond the fence. The mountains could be seen from nearly any angle.

No question Kyouya recognized the code -- and perhaps the moment when his head was down and he was toweling off his hair was an excuse to hide a smile. Because it certainly wasn't all that wet; it wasn't like he'd been swimming. Maybe he was looking forward to those parties as much as Tamaki was. While Kyouya enjoyed power politics, it was a nice relief to be around people who were absolutely honest and themselves, rather than putting on masks. It was true ... they so rarely got the chance to catch up, just the two of them. And perhaps there'd be even less time as the two of them went to college and then on to business ... Kyouya buried that thought. He had time now. "Sure, I don't see why not. It's been a pleasant vacation so far, and everyone seems to be enjoying it." Myself included. He, too, tracked the horizon to the mountains, and perhaps sighed with a moment of quiet contentment, before starting to slip back into his clothes. "I hear there's a place three doors down that serves dumplings steamed over the hot spring water," he said lightly. "Hungry? We could go get some."

Tamaki exchanged a look with Kyouya, and perhaps he might've sensed those thoughts of what awaited their future---something much too depressing for the simple-minded club president to even want to think about. "And the year after that?" He laughed lightly, "Or the one after that? Maybe we should just invest in a permanent residence out here. What do you think, Kyouya?" There was absolutely no way Tamaki would let Kyouya have any extended amount of time to himself... not through college, not even when they were both busy running their own businesses, or beyond that even.
That more serious expression quickly switched to that of complete and impressed awe at the mention of the dumplings, and he made quick to throw on his own clothes as he was heading for the door. "We must make haste, Kyouya! The hot spring dumplings await us!"

Kyouya looked meditatively out at the surrounding area, the steam from the spring obscuring the mountains slightly for a moment, then clearing again. "Maybe," he allowed. There was a certain appeal to the idea ... although he would never have a moment's peace, he realized. But perhaps that would be better than enforced solitude. Perhaps that maybe was a soft, conditional yes -- if not for this particular place, for some place that the two of them would share. He couldn't help the lopsided quirk of one of those true smiles as Tamaki headed for the door hot on the chase for the dumplings. Reaching for his jacket, he followed -- not quite at such a rapid pace, but with an easy deliberation that said volumes about the tranquility he was feeling at the moment.
