User Image Midnight Strike sighed as she sat on the beach, rubbing her shoulder. Ever since she had been given the Terrakin abilities she had gone out practicing. Today was no different. She had come to enjoy the beach, the sand was gentle on her sore hooves. She was simply trying to be the best that she could be and that meant pushing herself. Working through the pain! A small dip in the ocean waters never hurt her hooves though. A break never hurt either. It wasn't like anyone knew she was slacking off if only a little bit. It wasn't like she had the Wonderbolts to work towards anymore either. She couldn't help but sigh again. What was she doing with her life? What did she have to work for? She was already getting good at changing, so what after this? She shook her head. She was thinking too much again. She'd worry about that stuff later. All that matter was here and now after all.

Of the few days he had been in the Tree, the stallion had been in the tree itself. The short times outside were always quick to end after the cold became too much. This day, it didn't feel so bad and he needed to move. Knowing nothing of the island besides the little piece he called home, Everfree was curious about the world around him.

Taking a few deep breaths, he stood still with his ears turning every which way. He couldn't see anyone in the area so it was decision time. What did he do with himself? Looking up, a winter bird provided the answer. The last time he had flown was well before he came to this new land. No one appeared to be watching so he opened his wings.

Healthy green feathers glistened in the sun as they stood idle for only a moment. Easy at first, the stallion flapped his wings a few times to get the feel of them again. Once he was confident in the power he had to move them, it was a matter of running forward and fearlessly taking off.

At first, he tried flying like he was used to, that included cupping his hands like front hooves and pulling his back legs against his body. Now he looked more like a flying bolder then a pae. Even his flying was more like he was attacking the air with every wing stroke then actually flying.

The longer he was in the air the more he started to ease up and relax his body. Now the flying style was not fixing itself, but at least he wasn't bunched up all the way. In the distances was a lake and, if he wasn't mistaken, a beach. That looked like a place worth exploring. Maybe when the weather was nicer he could go with Twilight? Would she like the beach? He had no idea, that didn't sit well with him.

Midnight Stike sighed again to herself before slowly getting to her hooves, moving to the edge of the water. She smiled as the waves splashed against her hooves. Turning into a cat thing just too so much out of her, made her sore all over. This was, relaxing. She'd have to do this more often.

She let out a yawn and stretched, flexing her wings out. This land stuff was probably not for her. She preferred to be in the air. And so on cue she started to flap her wings, hoovering over the sand for a moment before taking off into the sky, a black and gold spec against the sea of light blue and white. This. This is what she lived for. She could remember her Wonderbolt training like she had just finished training, and so she went through the moves in her mind and in the air. Loops, dives, sharp turns. Sure, she would never be as fast as Lightening Dust or Rainbow Dash, but she could image. Image a streak of black and gold following her as she 'danced' in the air. She was allowed to dream even if it would never happen.

The clear blue sky stretched out as far as the eye could see. Well, when it was open. He pictured how gracefully Celestia and Luna flew, then he saw himself. He was using too much energy flapping, attacking the air when he should be almost swimming in it. He could tell some of the things he was doing wrong but fixing it was another matter.

Tensely, he fought on refusing to be defeated by the sky. It was only in a moment to scan where he was that he saw what was a black smudge in the distance. The closer he got the more he could make out a faunie, had to be a pegusas because she didn't look like Luna. As he got closer, he had no idea who she was but could clearly identify she was a she and a faunness. "Hello," he greeted the graceful figure in the sky.

In trying to hover, he ended up moving up or down rather then in place. Catching the wind wrong, the alicorn found himself sideways before he could right himself. With overcompensation he was as much going side to side then he was correcting his balance. It had been too long indeed.
