What needs work :
- Combat // How to deal with expanding actions sets
- Combat // Movement while under attack? Not sure what to do about this aside from the fact that if your getting attacked you cant take a move action.
- Combat // Spells, Special Abilities, Feats, Maneuvers any number of things need work and balancing
- Character Creation, Spells, Abilites // Needs work. Thinking of a build a spell system, along with something for physical attacks and what not.
- Character Creations Feats // What are feats? Things your character wouldn't be able to do normally or without some sort of training. Dual Wield, Oversize / Heavy weapons etc any number of things.
- Not sure what else but there is also work to be done ( cant come up with anything more off the top of my head.
Character Stats
Body : a measure of the character's physical prowess and health.
Mind : a measure of the character's mental capacity and intelligence.
Soul : a measure of the character's spirit and willpower.
( Body / Mind / Soul, will all be out of a value of 100 but I don't want to see anything higher then 20 when we start. Now we can also include checks for these stats if the characters try to do something related to it. Lift something heavy ( strength ), Understand an ancient text ( intelligence ) Resisting the temptation of a demon ( soul ).
Combat Stats
Actions : 3 ( How many actions a character can take in combat ).
Damage : ( Body + Mind + Soul ) :Characters ability to deal damage
Defense : ( Body + Mind + Soul ) / 3 :Characters damage reduction
Health : ( Body + Mind ) x 2 Hp pool : Obvious enough
Additional stats ( May or may not use )
Energy Points ( Mind + Soul ) x 5 Pool of power used for various abilities, mana basically.
Shock Value : ( health / 5 ) A value used to represent the amount of damage a character can take from a single attack before becoming stunned. Last a single round.
Combat
Now how will combat work? Characters will get three actions in combat. Move / Attack / Defend or Support ( Special read note ). This series of actions can be done once every post in combat ( character will be able to purchase additional actions ). Here is a description of each actions.
-Movement : The character is able to move about the battle field.
-Attack : Any offensive action taken by the character to harm, debuff or other wise cause harm to an enemy. Attacks are always assumed to hit, taking damage after damage reduction.
- Defend : Any action that could be considered defensive, blocking, dodging, casting a spell to repel an attack etc. Defensive actions always double a characters damage reduction.
- Support : Any action taken in order to offer aid to another character. It can be a healing spelling, moving in the way to block an attack, buff etc. Any character may swap out any action in order to provide support for another character. Assumed to always go through.
Further more there will be classes that provide options for characters. ( They are pretty general and can be customized as the rp moves along ).
Strikers : Damage dealer, can replace the movement or defense action for an additional attack. Applies to both magic and melee.
Defender : Defensive class , can replace movement or attack with an addition defensive action. Applies to both magic and melee.
Support : Specializes in supporting other characters, may replace any action for one that targets an ally. Healing spells, buffs, position swapping, blocking and what not.
Now what does this all mean in combat and posting? A jumbled mess of assumptions that will smooth its self out once people get used to the idea of the system and how it functions. An example is best to show case this.
Vikar / Defender
Body 20
Mind 15
Soul 15
Attack 25
Defend 16
HP 75
Vikar held his weapon firmly as his eyes wandered about the cavern entrance. He had been task to retrieve stolen cargo, taken by a small group of goblins. The creatures were simple enough to track, not bothering to cover their tracks. Although he didn't expect four of them to be guarding the entrance, regardless it should be simple enough to cut through them. Taking his first steps forwards he dashed towards the first goblin ( Movement ), he held his halberd high in the air and brought it down onto his enemy ( Attack ). Feeling his weapon strike he pulled back and took a defensive stance ready to block an attack ( Defend).
4 goblins
2 actions
Attack 20
Defend 10
HP 5
The goblins were shocked to see an armored giant march onto their encampment, quickly they mounted what defense they could but he had already attacked one of their own. As the halberd came down the goblin dashed to the side ( Defensive actions increasing defense to 20. It takes 25 dmg- 20 dmg reduction, loosing 5 hp thus dying ) it was a futile attempt however, the blade still cut through the body of the creature leaving a lifeless corpse. A cry could be heard from it, rallying on the other goblins. The remaining three went about their way and moved towards the giant ( Movement actions for all three ), maneuvering about the terrain. Once they were close enough they began their attack, one swinging a blade, the other an axe, the last holding the spear at some distance.
Vikar watched his enemy fall to the ground, a grin formed upon his face. Although his joy didn't last for long as his enemies rushed towards him. It wouldn't be long until he was in the fray. When a sword came from his side, he step back blocking attack ( defend, taking no damage ). When it came to the axe he felt it strike his armor but it did little to slow him down ( defend, not damage ). The spear found its way into the meat of his belly, it hurt but he had faced much worse ( Can't defend, can't move or attack as he is reacting so he must take the attacking suffering 4 damage (( 20 dmg from the goblins, taking off his natural defense )). His hp drops to 71 ). Fill with anger he lashed out against the goblin the struck him, bringing the spiked end into the creature, ending its life in one fell swoop. (Regardless if it defends it will die, so I went ahead and killed it for writings sake ).
Now that is a basic idea of how combat would work. The assumptions keep it running smoothly I suppose. All one has to do is count their actions and then do a little math for the way of damage. I can post as enemy npcs, the stats will be there as well so players can automate combat to some degree or another. Another option is to simply post the stats of enemies they will be fighting and allows the players to control the npcs actions to some degree or another. I am not too sure really.
Advancement
Characters will be granted exp in order to purchase upgrades for their characters. It can range from additional actions, stat increases, spells, special attacks, feats ( dual wielding for example, using different types of weapons and bonuses like increased dmg or something like that )
