A Wandering Esper

Beloved Stargazer

Ankou certainly had his shortcuts, but they would be a little bit hazardous for Valyrmora - they involved flying, for once. At least he had more than the space he needed to take flight in pretty much every part of the tree, save for some narrower branches.

So it was much safer to do this the long way, if only because if they lost Sanngrigor and Athanathius, then it would be a pain to find them again.

"Yes." He started. He was subconciously keeping his own voice low as well, if only because the echo would make the vastness even worse. "Many worlds were outright destroyed... Devoured. These became dead branches on the tree. I first came here with one of the dragon kings, the worldshield, to assess to the damage at the crown's request. We mapped it from top to bottom - how, I still cannot quite tell you." It had been a task of titanic proportions, even for gods. "As new worlds are created, they will replace those which have been destroyed. New fruits to replace the dead ones."

"Rejuvination, that is good." No that she would have doubted it, the World Tree held the fabric of everything together, it tied the underworld to the overworld and all the worlds that existed to each other. It was the veins of all that was, the very heart of existance.
"That must have beed quite an undertaking. Though it makes sense that you of all gods should know the tree inside and out as you are the wanderer."

Ankou's iips quirked upward. "Knowing it inside out is being a bit generous about it." He was more familiar with certain parts, those he actively used the most. Knowing the whole tree inside out was most likely the realm of Gaia alone.

Val would laugh at that.
"So maybe I exaggerate a bit, but you must know it better than most, aside from the Nyanko I suppose." She shrugged her host's shoulders. "I am quite proud of you Ankou. Quite proud indeed." he was clearly a god that others trusted, that the Crown trusted. "Whatever you think, you have achieved a lot. More than most from what I can gather."

And one thing became certain right there - Ankou was clearly not used to receiving compliments like that, at least not in this way. "Ah..." He looked like a fish out of water for a few seconds before he actually caught himself.

Well, he figured that was true. "I figure so. There are many gods I have not seen in a long time." Tian Yue had likely lost himself to his books again.

Val had to laugh at the look that crossed his face. A proper belly laugh, though perhaps a shadow of one that would have once come very naturally to her.
"It's okay Ankou, you can accept the compliment." She couldn't help but smirk at his discomfort. He really was a funny one.
"I hope some of them will return." She would like to meet more of her divine kin.

Ankou certainly did not see what was so funny about this, but him ending up being a source of amusement without really understanding how or why was certainly commonplace enough that he could deal with it. Her smirk was met with a frown, but that was where it ended.

"I hope so as well." He could agree on that, at least.

Ohh yes he was certainly Nergal's son. She thought, watching his small frown. She would have to do something about that. He needed to lighten up or he would go the same way as her brother. Inward.
She'd let him have his silence back as they plodded further along the branch. It certainly seemed to go forever and it was hard not to keep asking if they were nearly there.
It had been an hour, or maybe several when she finally broke the silence.
"Does it branch off before we get there?"

Had he been able to read Valyrmora's mind, then Ankou would have due cause to be worried, probably. such attempts rarely ended up too well for him, no.

"Yes, it does. But we still have quite a bit to go." Then it was straight down along the trunk all the way. "We can stop whenever you feel the need to."

Val shrugged.
"No, I'm fine if everyone else is." Luckily for her Alva was used to spending time in the saddle, as was Sanngrigor.

The Valkyrie, who had been quiet up until then spoke up.
"I am fine, I can sleep in the saddle quite easily." It was something the Hirst learned from a young age. There was a lot of falling off involved but you soon learned how to keep balance.
"Do the spirits use the tree?" She asked, she could not remember of course.

He nodded at their assurance that they would be fine, and kept on going.

As for the question, now it was something he could answer in more detail. "Yes, they do. It is why I come here to check on things, every so often. The fact that it exists onto every world and links them all together makes it an ideal path, and often they are drawn to it. But on the flip side, the tree is so vast that they also get lost very easily. It is truly a vast maze of branches."

He shook his head. "It is easy to draw them all from the middle section of the tree - the trunk, so to speak. The path is relatively straightforward when you know what you are looking for." Once out of this branch, the path was, well. Go down until you find the end, where the roots started to spread and where the abyss could stare back at you if you stared at it for too long.

For now all they could do is walk. They still had quite a long time to go.
