User Image Sadia kicked the sand at her hooves and sighed. Nothing ever happened here. No adventure. Nothing spectacular. Just sand. Lots and lots of sand. Every now and then the merchants would come through with something nifty to look at but their wonder was short lived and the desert heat choked them out and further on their route before they got heat stroke. You would think for a herd with princes and royalty that there would be something spectacular to see or do here but alas. Nothing. Sure, some royal ladies had flocked to the city in order to get in good with the royal family but in the end, their drama went on behind closed doors and the people never got to spectate. The only thing the royal family was good for was repressing the mares!

"Beh," she muttered under her breath before glancing over at her mother, curious if she had heard her.

User ImageBraith had, in fact, heard her daughter and it was a noise she knew well. Sadia was upset. Again. Call the presses.

The mother shook her head and watched her daughter as she flitted from merchant stall to merchant stall pointedly avoiding making eye contact with her. Braith knew better than to ask, though. Sadia was unhappy. She hated here and admittedly, Braith did too..But her children had started to leave and she couldn't simply up and leave in their absence. What if they came home and were looking for her? What if they thought she had abandoned them...or worse, died.

No, Braith could never do that to her children no matter how much she hated this herd and it's backwater ways.

Braith herself began to scowl, except somebody had happened to bump into her right then.

User ImageIset had been far from paying attention. The white mare had been staring in wonder at some of the wares the market of this tribe had to offer when she felt herself run face first into another star's rump. The impact sent her sprawling to the ground shouting apologies as she went.

Oh, just what she needed. To bump into some stallion in the market place and have her hooves cut off for her being so rude. Wonderful.

However, when she looked up, she only saw the confused eyes of a tan colored mare. Instantly, she was relieved and she climbed back to her hooves and bowed her head low in apology.

"I'm so sorry, ma'am. I was just so distracted, I should have been paying more attention. Please forgive me,"

Sadia found herself taken aback by the mare. So polite and so...pretty. She blinked, coming back to her senses before turning to check to her mother.

"Are you alright, ma?" she questioned, though it was not long before her eyes were once again on the pale mare. The way her black hair swooped so elegantly across her face....Long lashes fluttered in embarrassment as she realized she had bumped into them. Oh.

She was lovely.

"Are you alright, miss?" she questioned, stepping closer and offering the white mare a friendly smile.

---

Braith nodded in response to her daughter's question before quirking an eyebrow. She was being awfully friendly for someone who had just run into them. No matter.

Turning her attention back to the strange mare, she offered her a friendly smile to assure her that no harm was done.

"It is fine, really. Though you must be careful...It is odd for a woman to travel alone here, and heaven forbid you run into the wrong stallion," she commented, a hint of severity etching into her voice. The warning was there and very real. A lone female had to watch her behavior and her tongue in this place, "Are you alright?"

"Are you new here?" Sadia chirped in with a smile. She hoped so.

---

Iset sighed in relief. They were not angry with her. In fact, they seemed rather friendly. The younger one even seemed very concerned and Iset flashed her a thankful smile.

"I'm fine, thank you both. I was afraid I'd hurt you," she shook her head, chiding herself once more. She had to be careful.

"I...Well I am new here, I suppose, but I'm just passing through. I've been trying to find a specific herd that is supposedly somewhere nearby...I just happened to have gotten lost...Then I wound up here," she sighed.

"Say, maybe you've heard of it?"

Sadia stepped a little closer to the white mare as she spoke, admiring the golden gleam of her jewelry and the way her hair shined in the sunlight. She felt a faint blush rising in her cheeks as she stared but she pushed the embarrassment aside. This mare was truly fascinating.

Sadia looked crestfallen when she admitted she was just passing through, however, and she sighed. Of course. No one interesting ever stayed in this dust heap.

"Depends, what herd are you looking for?" she responded, her voice suddenly more dismissive than it had been before.

---

Braith eyed her daughter with interest for a moment. Was she..blushing? What was this girl doing? The older mare sighed. She didn't understand her daughter sometimes. She was so all over the place. It must be her father's fault. He wasn't exactly known for having a long attention span. Arions always fluttered all over the place from flower to flower like bees collecting pollen. Perhap that was why her daughter was so mercurial.

"What she means to say is that her name is Sadia. Mine is Braith. It's a pleasure to meet you. THEN she meant to inquire as to which herd you were looking for," she smiled, nudging her daughter who blushed again at her mother's words.

Curious.

---

Iset smiled at the embarrassment of the daughter and the carefully crafted words of the mother. Iset didn't remember her own mother much...It was nice to see this sort of interaction.

"Iset, thank you both for being so gracious" she smiled at Sadia who was red faced again before turning her smile over to Braith. They were both so friendly even though she had been so rude. Horus be praised. He was clearly watching over his disciple.

"I believe the name is Anubis Hieratic...Or something along those lines. I thought I had found it but I was very, very wrong," she laughed nervously as a stallion passed the group by, eyeing them curiously.

She resisted the urge to stick out her tongue.

"Anubis Hieratic...actually, yeah! I know where that is! Sort of. I mean, I've spoken with traders and all," Sadia was suddenly very interested. A new plan was forming in her brain.

"Hey, I could show you how to get there! I mean I know more or less!"

---

"You could what?" Braith responded, her eyes going wide. Sadia. Alone. In the desert. That would go swimmingly

"You've never even been there! Just because you heard some traders chatting doesn't mean you're some travel expert!"

Still, the mare sighed. She knew her words were falling upon deaf ears...

----

Iset looked from mother to daughter nervously.

"I don't want to cause any trouble," she responded slowly, "I mean, I really would appreciate the guidance but if it is too much of an inconvenience..."

She shifted uneasily on her hooves, nervous. She did not want to anger the kind mare she had just met but she truly needed help and this...did not seem like the kind of herd that would help a lost wandering female so readily...

"Sure, I've never been there but what does that matter? I can just get a map and it'd be better to show her the way there than to keep her stuck here! What if she gets lost in the desert again?" Sadia insisted, grinning from ear to ear. She knew that look on her mother's face. She was unhappy, of course, but Sadia was an adult and she could go where she pleased whenever she pleased it. Her mother could not tell her no anymore. It was her decision and her mind was made up.

"I can get a map tonight and we can leave tomorrow! That will give us time to buy supplies and pack and prepare."

---

Iset glanced from mother to daughter, very unsure. Still, the company sounded lovely and Sadia really seemed eager to leave. Perhaps some good could come from this after all.

"I would greatly appreciate your help, but only if you are certain," she responded, avoiding Braith's annoyed eyes.

Sadia smiled as her offer was expected and her wings fluttered happily. "We leave tomorrow then! It is settled! Thanks for being so understanding mom!" she added, knowing her mother was scowling but unwilling to look in the direction of her scathing gaze.

Sadia moved closer to Iset and guided her towards a stall full of supplies they would need to cross the desert. It was no simple task, that was for certain.

---

Iset smiled, relieved, but when Sadia was not looking she glanced up at the sky and thought, oh Horus, what have I gotten myself into?

And then Sadia was in her face, a bundle of energy, and it was all she could do but to let the mare lead her. This was really happening.

Well...Okay then.

Braith hung back for a moment and watched her daughter lead the new mare off without a second though. Hesitation was not a word Sadia was familiar with. She rarely thought before she acted and that made Braith fear for her daughter. That was a trait she inherited from her dead beat, no good father. Still, just because Braith was here in A'D trying to create a home for her babies to come back to did not mean that they had to stay with her. Far be it from her to tell them not to explore and live their lives. She was their mother, not their jailer.

She watched her daughter for a moment as she excitedly chatted with a merchant in an attempt to barter a map out of him and she finally let a sad smile cross her lips. This life was her daughter's adventure. This was what she wanted.

There was no possible way she could tell her not to.

The mare tucked her head farther into her headscarf to a hide a tear that had escaped despite her best efforts and took another step forward.

Soon this chapter of her own adventure would come to a close.

Perhaps she would find something new now to add to her little family.
