Colin Byrne is a young Naturist priest stuck in a tiny village on the edge of the Wardwood called Woodsend, which is impossibly entrenched in the Old Ways. He cannot stray far from the village for RP, but can perform Naturist services such as weddings, funerals, blessings, etc. His best friend is a girl from a family of hedge-witches who has no magical ability herself named Dorothy Goodwyn, and she can drag Colin along places if need be. His guardian, Cara, is a childish, impulsive, jealous, and whimsical deer who finds Colin to be cute and confused and does not care one whit about any serious matter which doesn't directly benefit her to care about. She is very possessive of Colin, hates anyone of any species who hangs around him, but is otherwise amiable to people who she finds to be amusing. ICLY CARA IS STILL A TOTEM.

mister arden leatham and palladius [image here] Arden Leatham is a former scholar whose bold treatise on an ancestor of Queen Anne got him arrested for libel and lost him his promising academic career. He now works as an undercover reporter for The Spectacle, a salacious gentlemens' magazine that is most famous for reporting society scandals, publishing bawdy stories, and sometimes even stooping to covering politics. Palladius is a serious and somewhat haughty deer who expresses his displeasure if things are not Just So, and is well aware of his position in life as opposed to Arden's, i.e. superior.

lady chrysanthemum fitzpercy and marigold  Lady Chrysanthemum Fitzpercy is a young and spoiled woman bored out of her tiny mind. Unable to work due to the constraints of her social position, and unwilling to work in any job that doesn't involve living the plot of some of her more fantastical novels, she instead spends time harassing her brother and studying history so as to better be able to daydream about the romantic exploits of their heathen Airish ancestors. Smarter than she lets on, she could have a canny political career were she a man, but instead is forced to find her own amusement in society. Floundering for a purpose, she pays undue attention to the political situation in Airelund, believing that she could be of use somehow, or perhaps just looking for a cause to invigorate her. Since her young Airish cousins have suffered social misfortune and been obliged to come live with her family in Sunderland, she has hounded them with her preconceived notions of Airelund and admired everything Airish about them that fits in with her fantasies. Her guardian, Marigold, has further sparked her daydreams, and being chosen has lent her agency that she lacked previously.
