At first Claune didn't reply to anything Caduceus had said; instead he slipped in through the door of the rabbit's cage, stood for a moment facing away, and then put his back against the bars and slid down until he was sitting among the shavings. Only afterwards did he turn to look at the other Plague over his shoulder, his face twisted into a wretched facsimile of misery. It was almost theatrical enough to come full circle and look real.
"You cannot speak promises to things, but you can speak them to monsters? If your Grimm only cares for your usefulness in helping her succeed, I don't see how you're any different to her than a rabbit after all." It seemed Claune had suddenly grown tired of twisting his words. He picked at a loose thread in his sleeve. Then he stopped.
"He doesn't poke me with sharp things, if that's what you mean," he replied with a grimace, "though I'm not certain he could even if he wanted to."

"I am not a rabbit. I am more; are you?" Caduceus' tone was sharp and thin - like a well-used knife. His hands clenched, the golden tips of his fingers digging into old scars. He would never forget the gleam in Dr. Jannisari's eyes as she sliced his flesh that fiirst time. The near-comical look of misery on Claune's face irritated him. What did he know of misery? But still, Caduceus wanted someone, anyone really, to see Dr. Jannisari as he saw her, as he needed to see her. A pinnacle, a pedestal of science and logic and unfeeling precision. Like a child, Caduceus required validation: that she was something to aspire to. To be good enough for her. The phrase rattled around in his head like a single coin striking every side of well as it fell. The din was alarming and tinged with an odd sense of bitterness. He had hoped another's endorsement would banish these feeling of resentment and pain that balled inside his gut. He could find no solace in Claune's cerulean gaze. These emotions seemed to spread outwards from his center in fits and starts and he shuddered.
Doctor Jannisari held a higher place. She valued him. These were the truths he needed to believe in. But was it enough? "No... it's not sufficient to just be good enough... I will be better." His voice was a small, quiet thing; the words spoken without conscious thought. His gaze snapped to the jester. "My Grimm has a purpose in the prodding. If yours wanted to poke you, he could. What are you to him; what are you to your Grimm?" As he spoke, the corners of his glowing mouth turned down and his eyes flared with an almost unholy light. The urge to slam the cage door, to imprison the other plague, streaked through his body. Caduceus leaned forward, gripping the bars above Claune.
