Central Somnum

"In the middle of the grand realm, there lies a city of tangled streets
and intrinsic floors. Getting lost in the huge fortress is almost a duty, as there
has been no Dream and no Nightmare who hasn’t lost his or her way at least once.”

Geography
- - Although Central is mostly a brownish city because of it’s clay houses, the different cloths that hang in here and there as well as the little floating gardens and the rivers make it picturesque.
- When thinking of Central’s architecture, I would recommend thinking of Byzantine buildings.
- The city is divided into four islands due to the four rivers that travel across it, all of which meet at the center.
- The rivers won’t forgive any construction in their way, never changing their own path, even if that means they’d have to pass over the buildings. This creates various waterfalls and ponds of all sorts.
- All four rivers have their own name, which are often used as a reference to know where exactly are you standing. There’s Marie going North, Jean-Marie traveling South, Marcel goes East, and Maurice over the West.
- Because of the rivers, Central has been divided into four districts, each named after the cardinal point they’re in (Northeastern district, Southeastern district, etc.)
- Districts
The northwestern district
The fanciest district Central has. It houses the richest sprites and the most magnificent houses. Sprites who live here are usually arrogant and cold.
The southwestern district
A medium-wealth district. Sprites that live in here are considered to be the most kind.
The southeastern district
The poorest of them all. In here live most thiefs and bandits. Visitors should watch their step as traps are common.
Central’s plaza
Quite possibly the most dangerous place to hang out. It is where all bandits meet and negotiate. One should not risk venturing there out of mere curiosity.
The northeastern district
The commercial district. Sprites from all over the Realm come to trade their belongings under the large row of colorful tents that traverse the main road.
The castle
The most important and tallest building in Central. In here live all princes, princesses, young sprites and the kings. It is the political focal point of the city.
Population
- - Central is the most populated Village in the realm (for now).
- Most Sprites live and work in here.
- Airborne Sprites usually live in the tallest buildings, whereas Marine Sprites live underwater.
Important places
- The castle
The central point of, well, Central. The castle is the tallest building in the Realm and can be seen from very far away. The kings, the royalty and the young sprites live in here.
The nursery
A very peculiar place. Sprites are born and are raised here until they are ready to see the world. It is found in the middle levels of the castle and it is one of the most secure places in the Realm. Young sprites are not allowed outside unless they have the kings' permission.
The great library
The library is found in the Castle’s underground levels, just below the dungeon. It houses an enormus quantity of books and treasures. Sprites can only enter with permission of the kings.
The station
Used only once a year in The Dreamcasting in order to take the Dreams and Nightmares down to the human world.
Others
- Mrs. Cardenal’s. Found in the southwestern island. They sell pancakes here. Like, really good pancakes.
- Your house. Yep, that’s the most important place there is. That where you eat and poop. Mhhm.
Culture
- - Contrary to common belief, Somnian sprites are cold and sometimes even rude. Not many are openly friendly and most are reserved. This doesn’t mean, however, that they’re all bad. They’re just like that.
- Insecurity, specially in the plaza and in the southeastern district, is common and sprites should be careful of going out alone at night.
- Sprites usually prefer not to travel for the same exact reason (Barbarians in the roads, etc.), however, adventurers are quite famous.
