Fun was not the word Natalia would have used to describe the previous situation. There had been many emotions, yes, such as anxiety, anger, and pride. But fun? No, it had never even slipped her mind to consider it a game. She shrugged nonchalantly, trying to keep a bit of bitterness out of her voice. "I can't really answer you; for me it was every bit as real as I acted. It is not a particular joking manner to believe you have an intruder in your home." Perhaps another time they could try it out again.
Wait, what was she even thinking? There was no guarantee this other girl would ever appear again, so why even consider it? The bird had always been a bit of a dreamer, but her hopes had to be kept in check. It was better that way.
Shrugging, she crossed her arms and looked away. "Wouldn't we all like to know that?" She sighed and shook her head. "Not really, I can't remember anything further back than my childhood, and my mother had no real clear answers when I asked long ago either. Do you have any clue about where you came from?"

"Not a clue," Ruya responds, shaking her head. "All Mother has told me, which is all she knows, is that eggs were given out as sort of...party favors after what she calls the 'Crazy Ruddy Party With the Crazy Ruddy Gods'. Apparently she has bad luck going to parties. Anyway, she got one, and her friend Xanthea got one, and a bunch of other people did too and then they hatched! Into us! I've never met any others, apart from you, and oh there's also Xia but she doesn't count because we praaaactically grew up together."
She's rambling perfectly happily, but the fact that Natalia believed her to be an intruder in her home bothered her. It bothered her a lot. She wants to be friends with this new bird, not enemies.
"Hey, hey," she says suddenly, excitedly. "I have an idea! I mean, playing chase was such fun, but it's like, we didn't know each other at all and didn't know what each other were up to and if we were playing or hunting or what, so hey! I have an idea! Let's start over!" She nods emphatically. "You can go back to your nest and I'll go back to where I was at the edge of your turf and we can do the whole thing over, except I'll probably not go the same way twice since that'd be predictable, but yeah, we can play chase again but you'll know I'm not trying to take your stuff and I'll know you aren't gonna like, tear into me when you catch me!" It was a perfect plan!
For all Ruya's reading and intelligence and wit...she's not terribly good with people. Isolation would do that to a pae. She's just so excited to have a friend, a friend like her, who wasn't someone she'd grown up with, it's difficult to be the rational, poised and elegant creature she envisioned herself being.

That was a bit different that her own circumstance; her mother had never attended such a party, she had just simply appeared one day, emaciated, and needing care. The fey, her mother, had taken her in out of sympathy for seeing such a young pae in the state she had been in.
Natalia's head tilted slightly at the mention of a third like themselves. How many more were there? Could there be?
Raising her arms up to stretch above her, she shrugged at the idea. "I'm actually not that active or comparative, contrary to what you seem to think. Never really had anyone to play those games with, so I never bothered." Giving a wave, she motioned back in the direction of her nest. "Well, if that's it, I am going to return to my nest. Nice to meet you again..." At this she turned around and started to make her way back.

Ruya is temporarily stunned. She just stands there for a moment, watching Natalia's retreating back. It was hard to tell, from what she'd said, if she was agreeing to play her game, or saying goodbye forever. Well, only one way to find out.
She dashes through the trees again to get back into her original position, where she'd first sensed Natalia following her. This must be the edge of her territory. It's a nice territory, she thinks as she picks her way along the ground, dodging roots and other organic debris. Maybe she should strike out on her own, get a piece of land for herself. Natalia had a good spot here with the river and everything, maybe if she followed the river down a bit she could build a nest nearby. Maybe they could visit each other.
She pauses her thoughts as she arrives at what she supposes is the edge of Natalia's territory. And now she begins to walk forward, whistling a jaunty little tune. She hopes Natalia would appear again, that she'd get that prickly feeling on the back of her neck, just where her soft feathers transition into her hair, that meant she was being watched.

After reaching her nest once more, Natalia paused to stretch her wings and limbs before making herself comfortable in it. Her legs were kicked up against the edge, her wings lazily limp beside her and a sigh escaping her lips.
Man, today had been tiring, hadn't it? Not only had she been forced to skip out on her usual afternoon nap due to a trespasser, she had to leave the nest, fly, jump among trees and be ready to defend it at all costs. For someone who only exerted herself to hunt and gather resources to repair her living situation, that what quite physically demanding!
Closing her eyes, she yawned again before shifting around and making herself more comfortable for a sleep. Soon enough, Ruya would realize that she did not want to play at this moment and would simply leave.
