"The Nest of Maggots"
"Welcome to the Nest. Once you enter. You may never leave. You don't exist anymore."
| The Nest of Maggots | First Layer | Hallways | Level Two | Level Three| Doors
When a Shinigami becomes a potential danger to other Shinigami and Soul Society, that Shinigami is brought to the Nest of Maggots for imprisonment, regardless if they were put on trial, and even if they did not actually commit any crimes; this is to ensure no danger will be brought to Soul Society. Neither the staff of the Detention Unit nor any other visitors are permitted to carry a Zanpakutō into the Nest of Maggots. Only the Squad Two Captain may wield his or her blade inside the facility. This measure means the wardens are required to be able to control the prisoners with bare hands. If a Shinigami desires to enter and is not adept at hand-to-hand combat, they may not enter. This is to prevent rebellions and escapes from the prison. It is located underneath at the far southern edge and is attached to Aokigahara itself. It is constructed to be a giant castle made of Seki-Seki Stone. This castle took so much Seki-Seki stone to make that the whole Soul Society went on a Seki-Seki stone shortage for a total of three years. This castle is enormous. Since the Nest is located on the Southern side of Aokigahara, it is really close to Jigoku. In order to control the balance of rashi overflow within Jigoku, proper channels have been built to make condensed rashi rivers that flow off the edge of the giant prison. The Nest acts as it's own complex or "addition" to Aokigahara. It is said the deeper the levels you go the hotter one must become. The Nest of Maggots is surrounded by a thirty ken (approx. 54.54m) wide moat and a high wall. It is accessible by a Seki-Seki bridge. On the inside, it resembles a morbid castle. There are three Levels to the Nest and each level is connected by a secret and dark Hallway. At the end of each Hallway is the same style door to signify that you have reached the end of the hallway.
Level One:
Treatment for the prisoners is mostly lenient; they can walk freely and converse with one another, but the bleak setting drives many to madness. Prisoners are not held inside a cell and are free to roam the Nest, but they may not set foot outside of the facility or within the area of the other levels. Any member of the Seireitei are allowed to roam freely within this level.
Level Two:
This level is the moderate level for imprisonment. This is for those who have been confirmed as dangerous and already have committed crimes. This level, unlike the previous, has many average cells made of complete Seki-Seki stone. Only Officers and above of the Squads within the 14 Court Guard Squads are allowed within this level. This is also only allowed if a Squad Two Member accompanies them. You will need a thumb print for every person who enters this level. This is done by a thumb print scanner and this is done for security and log reasons. These are hidden by a Seki-Seki stone and the spot is changed frequently, so only a Squad Two Member would know where these protective devices are hidden.
Level Three:
This level is the highest level for imprisonment. This level is for those of great power and who have committed heinous crimes that could threat the world of balance. This level holds numerous and complete isolation cells. This means each prisoner is being held in a level that they themselves do not even know that there are other beings within this level. They are locked in a complete isolation chamber made of Seki-Seki stone. Only Captain level Shinigami may enter. Upon entering, you will be scanned with a high tech alarm system, asked for verification via a retinal scan, vocal scanner, as well as thumb print scanner, and you will be disinfected with a lasered door. All of these precautions are built inside this particular door that separates the level of two and three. The security here is immense, and no one is allowed inside without being accompanied by the Squad Two Captain.
