Naanash had never rode a dragon before now. They, him and his twin, had been the market place of the Weyr when they had been picked out of the crowd for candidacy – Harbinger just hissed at the pair. He now wished that the first time had not been with his twin. V’ail worked on two, possibly three states of being, on, off, and focused. Lanterneth for all her dainty size and finicky nature on the ground was wicked in the air.

He swallowed, fingers curling in the leathers of the harness as V’ail cried out, gleeful, and the deep scarlet red and pale pink wings flew up, blocking his vision as Lanterneth wheeled, circling the coordinates given. His stomach was going to crawl up his throat. Ughhh.

V’ail grinned, stroking the stretched neck of his dragon as she hummed content over their bond, circling. “Looks like there is a clear area for us to land, but I don’t see the gold.”

Lanterneth rumbled and banked, starting to climb to gain more height.

‘You would demand scrubing.’ V’ail replied fondly and shifted. “Hold tight, we are going down.” He called and laughed, voice a thin cry as Lanterneth doved, lost to the great expanse of space.

“I hate youuuu.”

And this should be taking place in the Environs not the Weyr.)

Natai had an overly paranoid bluerider on watch back at the Weyrhold and as a result brought a bright blue firelizard with her, the small creature chirping and flying about with a bright pink scarf wrapped around his neck. Iachixth and Natai blinked from between with Sassypants, the large dragon dropping to the ground like a stone. Natai swallowed any of the usual excited squeaking in order t retain that ever so important dignified stance.

Iachixth landed with more grace that her flight insinuated. She settled down without fanfair, trilling at any and all to hear. Sassy chirped in agreement with her, crawling onto Natai's back until she unstrapped herself. A little shift and the goldrider slid off of her dragon with an 'oomph'.

They are in the sky! Iachixth crooned at her rider, stretching out before Natai pulled off her flight cap. She raised her voice, throwing the words out to Lanterneth. Hello!

"She's probably landing cautiously," Natai murmured, removing her goggles next. Sassy flew onto the golds head and settled down. "As a sensible dragon would, my dear."

We'd be late if I didn't, Iachixth chirped, once again only for Natai. I hate being late, it's no fun. They are red!

Lanterneth shifted, giving a short shrill sound of surprise at the suddenly gold bulk and flared her wings, balking her descent and twisted managing a sort of glide. she replied back, front legs churning the ground as she landed in a prance to smooth out the shock wave. She circled once before stopping fully, shifting to allow her passengers off.

“At all!” V’ail added, unfastening his straps and slipped off his dragon, he landed with a bent knees and stood quickly, catching his balance. “Thought we would land first, then gold butt,” he smiled brightly, leaning back against the crimson bulk. “So, I’m V’ail and this lovely gal is Lan,” he paused, and snorted rolling his eyes. “’k, Lanterneth. Lan works fine though.”

she grumbled and shifted, snorting warm if smelly breath over his head, making his hair flutter.

‘Your name is longer than Nash’s.’ Vail pointed out and looked at his twin who was still clinging to the leather saddle/harness, straps. “We’re on the ground now… you don’t have to worry about being upside down.” Twins.

“And you’re Natai, from the hatching feast.” It was hard to forget that shade of skin. “Glad to meet you.”

You dove at my head very suddenly, Iachixth noted idly to Lanterneth, peering up at the crimson as the red dot with small humans descended. The others noise of surprise only now occurred to her, a rather odd noise for a peregrine-dragon to make when coming from so very high up from that great expanse of space they'd been lost in. That's okay, I forgive you! Although I think betweening is a very sudden thing, isn't it? I am used to sudden. It's fun.

Natai stroked at Iachixth's hide, quiet smile on her face. The gloves came off next, tucked away into the cradle of her flight cap, inside of the curve of her goggles. Iachixth settled in closer to her, head turning this way and that in a rare moment of calm.

"Indeed," Her smile widened when she turned to the crimson pair and the young man that remained on the dragon in question. Her tone held nothing but welcome and contentment, voice mild, lacking anything hostile or suspicious. "As you say, I am Natai of Gold Iachixth, future Weyrwoman of Euclid Weyrhold. It's a pleasure to meet you, V'ail, Lanterneth. Masterhealer Bereck contacted me in regards to your interest in the Weyrhold, though he didn't state what, exactly, you were hoping on doing with us?"

“Actually, everything went through my twin here,” V’ail paused, glancing once more at Nash who seemed to be stuck. Ehh, he would move when he wanted to. He paused, and causally strolled over to Natai, looking up to meet the woman’s eyes. Yup, she was tall. “Well, that answered one thing,” he mused, eyes bright in amusement. “You have to be a tree goddess to strike out on your own.”

Lanterneth replied, voice a tad tart. She looked over the gold and relaxed, giving a soft hmmpph of air as she stretched. Sharp turns and spins and the thrill of just missing the wavering tree tops. More like dirt, but still, filthy.

She added, lightly reprimanding the one that was not getting off her back. Off, now.

Naanash took a deep breath, opening his eyes and relaxed slightly. Okay, they were on the ground. Good. He slowly slid down from crimson and relaxed even more as his feet ended up on the ground. Solid ground. Blessed ground. …

What in pits was V’ail doing?

"Ah," Natai glanced back up to the young man still on the slender dragon. Her eyebrows raised a fraction, the corners of her lips quirked a bit higher in what could be amusement. Above her, Sassy opened his eyes and peered down at the approaching man, leaning up on his small legs to keep an eye on her. Even with the firelizards curious noise, Natai held her stance with arms loose at her sides, shoulders relaxed. The only change was the tilt upwards of her chin, her eyes locked on with the shorter riders.

Then she smiled. Natai reached down and tapped her index finger against the tip of his nose. "I'm not sure what a goddess is but I do believe you are barking up the wrong tree, rider. It's quite fortunate that walking was able to answer you." Once again she looked past - over - the crimson rider to his brother, long hands once more clasped in front of her. "Would you like some water, young man? You didn't look overly comfortable on young Lanterneth."

Why wouldn't I between? Iachixth blinked all three lids, curious. She paid no mind to the little firelizard on her head, her attention on the small female. We don't live here. This is where we meet people when they want to come to Euclid. We never fly from the Weyrhold here, otherwise what's the point if you can be followed, that's what Natai says. I've been in the jungle! But we aren't living right in one. That'd be scratchy. There's felines.

Iachixth hummed for a minute, thinking. Though I don't mind felines. They taste very good. I like it out here, though, it's fun. How fun is the Weyr?

V’ail chuckled, wrinkling his nose at the touch. Well, he had to try, didn’t he? She was a handsome woman, and he shrugged off the rejection with an easy smile. “Something one of my teachers use to talk about, though he also ate hallucinogenic mushrooms. Great artist, crazy but very talented.” Jeicho never failed to inspire him and knowing what the mystery ‘shrooms caused was informative.

Noooo, his twin did not just mention the following of ‘The voice in the trees’ to the gold rider. He did. Nash shook his head, resting his brow against Lanterneth smooth hide. “Why?”

Lanterneth inquired and blinked at the flicker of memory. She shook her head, slightly disoriented. She would save that for later. She had caught sight of them, thought about eating them but with waiting herd beast in a pen at the Weyr.

Redwort stains, he can’t make any worse of an impression. Naanash shook his head and walked over, slowly. “Naanash,” he said quietly, offering a hand. “And I’m fine… just not use to falling out of the sky.”

"Falling out of the sky is the best part of flying," V'ail quipped.

Natai moved away from the topic of V'ail flirting at a business meeting slash interview, side stepping the young man as he discussed narcotics and a mentor. Naanash approached finally and she took the twins hand for a firm shake.

"Natai. It's a pleasure, Naanash. The flying can take some getting used to," She smiled again, polite as ever. "So you are the mastermind then? Bereck didn't tell me details of what you spoke of or what you were hoping to gain from joining us."

Ooooh, good! Good good, you are having fun. Iachixth trilled, head tilting in natai's general direction for a second before crooning again at the crimson. It is feline and wher and fish. But Pioth's is getting herdbeasts. I'm very excited!

“Nash, please. It is simpler.” He shook her hand firmly, pleased at the dry firm grip. “It might be better if we sat, the conversation with Bereck was…” Stressful, irritating, thought turning, “long,” he settled for, deciding it was the most polite choice. “And I’m sure we both have questions.” Nash had questions, and they might as well find a seat and relax as they speak.

V’ail good naturally wandered over to the dragons, his twin had initiated the talk with Bereck and he might as well talk to Lan and Ixth… Iac… Iachixth was a bit difficult to nickname. “Hey darling.” He leaned on the crimson, stroking her warm neck. “Iachixth. How do you spell that? Iaaachixth”

Lanterneth scolded lightly and rumbled, enjoying the warmth on her neck.

“Felines? They are sort of dry, stringy, could have been over cooked though. Are you keeping the skins? You can make good marks from the skins,” V’ail added looking at Iachixth.

"My fathers name is Bjoronati. Long names are not too difficult after that. Nash it is." Natai chuckled, her laugh as soft as her tone light. She glanced around them to the mud and the jungle, arms wrapped around the cap and items within. "Surroundings considered, it may be more sanitary to remain standing. To be quite honest, my questions are all along the lines of asking what it is you are hoping to gain from Euclid and why you were initially interested. There is not so many."

The gold dragon paused when addressed. She blinked at V'ail, the twitching of her tail paused at a flick of her wing. When she answered, high lilting voice curious, Iachixth spoke solely to Lan. I don't know how to spell. Natai reads. I catch bugs and whers and felines and fish. But I don't read. Another blink and Iachixth sat back onto her haunches. She chirped, one large claw lifting from the ground to display for V'ail.

Do you save herdbeast skins when you hunt? She said to Lanterneth, eyes bright with amusement. I am very big! They are small. My rider does not hunt, that's all my job. And-- Iachixth paused, head cocked in the slightest as she flicked through Natai's memories. We don't have the stuff to, uhm, cure? Cure them. It takes stuff! And we dont have it. Also, I eat it. Skin is delicious.

“And I can counter that with what does Euclid have to offer my sibling and I,” Nash replied, dryly. “The conversation with Bereck started with an inquiry of my sibling’s bond partner’s health and snow balled from there,” Naanash had never seen snow but his father and Loche had and the traders from the north had described the powder. It seemed appropriate to use from the conversation that had went rather out of control.

He paused, raking over the conversation. “My abilities of a healer got questioned, then my twin’s abilities as a rider in the queen ranks, and I got a tad snarky after that with him and I don’t think either of us ended up with any questions answered.” That had been the most frustrating candle mark or so since coming to Trine.

“So, at the most I know you are supposed to bring progress but you don’t have the hands to build. Frustration likely cut off our conversation, we both are opinionated on certain things.” Nash was stubborn, willing to dig in his feet and argue to the ground. “So, I’m here, dragging my crimson riding twin along for transport to get the straight facts from you. It is curiosity mostly and Trine is… stifling.”

Lanterneth pointed out, giving a snort of bemusement. she was saying it right, surely that was all that mattered. Confusion clouded the crimson as she finished the conversation.

Lan replied to Iachixth, that they could both agree on. Skin was tasty. It better stay dead. Lanterneth paused, head tipped.

“Salt works to preserve the fur for a few days, it dries it for tanning and if you are close to a colt hold they’ll likely buy it from you like that.” V’ail didn’t know what tanning involved, but he knew from experience that felines furs one, were sold for a good amount of marks, and two some part of tanning involved salting the hide. He couldn’t think why else salt would be spread on any fresh hide brought back from hunts.

“And hunting bugs are fun. At least catching them and some of them are tasty.” And surprisingly nutritious.

Natai smiled. "You may certainly counter with what you would like. That is your prerogative just as it is mine to restate that my questions lie in what you hope to gain from Euclid and request an answer in the stead of a round about reply. I'd not been informed you requested a meeting with me in order to solicit offers to entice you to the future Weyrhold."

She glanced to the dragons direction, one thumb pressing against the curve f the cap in slow strokes. A moments consideration as Nash spoke with only the briefest furrow of her brow, gaze locked just over his shoulder. Her smile did not fade when she looked back to Nash.

"We are gaining the hands. What were the facts you wanted to know? I'm more than happy to answer."

Well... Iachixth huffed, her eyes closed as she flickered through Natai's memories of scrolls on many subjects, of a family that worked with animals, alive and dead. It took a moment. By the end of it, restless energy had her all but squirming gain, the young dragon kneading at the soft damp ground with her long claws. She kept her words for Lanterneth, pleased to know things.

Nuh-uh, he can ask, but Natai is mine and he is Yours. And - and you don't just put salt on furs. Mother and Father have the butcher shop and I've seen them and the things they do when they catch stuff. With hides you have to flesh it before it gets dry and make it all stretched and why do you even use salt anyway? It's expensive and you can use its brains instead, that's what Natai remembers, but I eat the felines brains and their skin.

She hummed, rocking from foot to foot again, gray tongue flicking out to lick her muzzle in remembrance. But they are good anyway. So are fish but they have tiny sharp bones, it's a little strange. Humans are strange too but that's okay.

Nash chuckled softly at the answer. “Bereck brought up some points in our conversation about Lanterneth, so now I do have to question you to see if it would be the best choice for us. It is a big thing, committing to a Weyrhold not yet built. It could be a Heaven, a utopia of equality, or it could lead to disaster.” If Lan clutched before there was sands, if it was discovered, if, if, if.

“I hope this isn’t blunt, but is there any coltholds or holds within the vicinity of your proposed Weyrhold and have to spoke to them?” Nash began. “I don’t need names, but it would give me an idea of the expanse of the project.” If she had spread the word, it meant she was serious about the settlement and it gave him an idea if a main hold would also evolve with the Weyrhold. A hold would bring trade, which brought goods, which feed economy, which brought prosperity.

Lanterneth blinked serenely with her outer lid, amused as the gold kneaded the damp ground. Energy abound and ahh. The crimson had never gave a thought about what she ate, but a quick poke in V’ail’s head had her wrinkling her snout in displeasure. Ewww. Tasty but not at all pleasant to look at, nope, not at all. she agreed, mind voice teasing as she included her rider in the message. And she loved him.

She paused and added the thoughts to her rider. Lanterneth hummed in thought.

‘Anything else?’ V’ail questioned, curiouse.

Lanterneth added.

“Ooh, that would make sense then. She would have been in one area, and had all the surprise to just tan it then and there.” V’ail nodded. “We were in a trade group and transporting salt from a mine, I think you can also air dry it?” He had always been more interested in how the bones moved then the skins. Furs were soft though. “But they wanted to preserve the skin till they could get it to a tanner, so they needed to dry it first so it didn’t attract nasty things.” Like unpleasant bugs. Some were tasty, some were blood thirsty and swarmed in clouds of bites and stings.

“Though…” V’ail eyed Iachixth. “I doubt think they could tan anything you hunted. You are very, very big and as you said. They are tasty.” The furs likely ended up as scraps and strips and free falling fur.
