this is a homebrew campaign of mine, set in a post-apocalyptic second renaissance in a fictional world. dragons have been hunted nearly to extinction, with the remaining young things competing for territory like wild beasts. the exception to this are the 16 Dragon Lords, who still hold power and might in their old age.

nobody remembers history past the last couple thousand years, but their is a renewed interest in archeology which has lead to recent advancements in technology. while some modern conveniences (such as cars and firearms) are available, the means of mass-producing them are not funded, and so they are reserved for the wealthy elite.

in Nightfall, the capital city of the Kingdom of Firmament, there is an institution called The University. in addition to being a place of study, The University trains and sponsors adventurers, and doubles as an Adventurer's Guild. with considerable subsidies from the Kingdom, The University is an easy way out of the life of a peasant or merchant -- if you are willing to accept the risks involved.

there are two Empires at war. the west of Andor, which includes Firmament, is the Dajeet Republic. the capital of Dajeet is a province located in an archipelago of floating islands in the sky, home to a race of master engineers and pilots. to the east, the Magocratic Udori Empire imposes it's religion and way of life onto it's subjects. it's leader is a ruthless Tyrant Priest-King who demands Order and Subjugation.

the primary known religions are as follows:

the New Holy Order of Atma is an Animistic religion which believes all things have an inherent Essence of Spirit. the Faithful of this religion worship the divine nature of the Immortal Soul in all things, and preach reverence for the physically dead whom they believe are enlightened and free. though this religion features heavy practice of necromancy, they view corporeal undead as being abominations.

the Old Ways are the teachings and beliefs of the polytheistic pagans. their gods are analogs of the Zodiac, and other celestial phenomena, and they favour Arcane Magic as well as Druidism. however, they are in conflict with the New Holy Order.

the Church of Taia is the official State Religion of Udor. a monotheistic faith, the Church teaches that Taia, the Sun Goddess, created the Multiverse and is the source of all life and the taker of all life. she is viewed as fickle but just. she is at once terrible and glorious (think a combination of Kali/Shiva/Vishnu/Brahma, and JHWH/Jesus/Holy Ghost).

there are many other possible religions and non-religions in Andor. players shouldn't feel restricted to only these few.
