It was a rare thing for Valoch to traverse Arkenvale without his servant at his side. But sometimes a hound needed to get away from the stinking meat sacks other, lesser, beings called human. The winter didn’t both him. His magic was most strongly aligned with fire, and when the flakes of snow neared his body he merely melted them way before they touched. He had taken to strolling along the sleazier parts of the city, where the stink and filth reigned. Every once in a while a while a can would rattle with vermin as he passed. He ached to boil the creatures alive, but that would be a waste of power.
He was hunting for more interesting prey tonight.
Valoch’s breath ghosted out his mouth like steam. He rounded a corner and yawned, stretching his legs and kneading his paws like a cat.
Something whimpered down an alley.
Valoch’s ears perked. He rose to the tips of his toes and swivelled his ears toward the sound, tails twitching with anticipation. The sound came again, dragging a high pitched moan along its tail. Valoch’s lips split in a grin and he lowered his head, slinking his way along the shadows.
A child was digging through the trash, wearing nothing but rags and dirt.
Looking for a meal, little one? Oh, how Valoch wished he had his slave, so he might let the morsal stink in her own fear before Valoch did her in. He curled his claws into the pavement, muscles coiled.

Mazial walked somewhat cheerfully as he made his way to Arkenvale, it was a rare occasion when he was left alone, so he used it to clear his mind, as much as he enjoyed having a companion, it was a tedious task. He grinned, his teeth shining with the rays of sunlight hiding behind the clouds, it felt nice to be alone, to be outside.
As he approached the city he let out a small sigh, he debated for a moment on turning back, heading into the woods and back to his house. But he decided against it. This was his time and he was determined to see what kind of trouble he could stir up in this forsaken city. First things first, he thought, I need some food. He browsed through the streets, booths were lined with merchandise, some with food. He snatched what looked appetizing and ate it on the way towards his next snack. In between thieving and stuffing himself he heard something in the distance, a whine.
He dropped the food held in his mouth and made his way towards the sound. He wasn't sure what it was but his body tingled with the excitement of the unknown. He smiled as he approached the dark alley. Shadows looked huge on the walls on either side of him. There he saw something small, a child, a human child. And in front of her was a hound, a very hungry looking hound.
He ran as fast as his legs could take him. As much as human-kind annoyed and irritated him he was not about to watch one get killed, by one of his kind none the less. He placed himself in between in the two.
Back away, mutt. He thought to the hound in front of him.
