m i s s Rieux Tribal names:
KNOWLEDGE TRIBE Th'ardrod. Drod relating to the mountains. Th' again alluding to learning. Ar is a nice breaker between the two, and together, one would expect a civilization nestled within the mountains - hidden.
The "knowledge" tribe (still need tribe names as well) is build around a LARGE library. There are only two temples (one for every major god: nature and sky/stars). There are only two healers, but many priests and at least one oracle (something the other tribes don't have). They have ground-breaking scientific (natural science and a few gadgets, but not as advanced and "steamy" as in the capitol) things. They have a council of elders that forms some type of oligarchy regime. And then, just below that, they have the hunters/protectors of the village. Can't really call it a village, then. It's pretty extensive lol Oh, and they live in the mountains (Canadian Rockies?)...They might be stoics.
STRENGTH TRIBE Faerang. Alluding to fangs. Ang usually gives thought to green, but when combined with an F, especially something that invokes fire and fangs, gives thought to a hot, harsh environment. (Said as Fay-rang.)
The "strength" tribe lives on a volcano. They have sacrificial rituals to this volcano and believe that it is the god of war and anger and passion and strength and all that. They are fearless, generally, and focus on honour and glory (time and kleos). They live in a dire environment where every day is a test of survival. They have one healer, who is constantly being picked on or defended (depending on what they wish to achieve) and one priest who everybody respects as the spiritual leader and the communicator between the volcano god and the humans. Then they have an alpha or tribe leader (military commander style, but he consults the priest before making any rash decisions), and his mate. Then they have betas (including the healer) and the rest are either pups or hunters. They seem like the "every man for himself" kind, but when their tribe or individual families are threatened, they are loyal and will stand together, united and incredibly powerful in numbers. They rely on physical strength and are the most powerful in that aspects. Typically, lions, tigers and other large, "aggressive" animals will be a part of this tribe. (When someone gives birth to a "lesser" animal, they will be taken to the other tribes or will be abandoned in the surrounding woods. Mothers don't have a say unless they are widowed - then the child is all they have left of their husbands. It'll be a hard life for such a person, though.)
HEART TRIBE/CLAN As'arden. As - being, one-ness, fulfillment, spirituality. Arden - forest, healing, nature, green. (Us-are-den)
Then, there's my little tribe that is too small to be called a tribe, so it's a clan instead. They live in the forest with gypsy caravans or in tree houses (depending on their animal type). They live like a separate hippie community. Not open relationships and all that, just the harmony and communal love and in seclusion from society and its laws to preserve peace and freedom among the inhabitants. They have an abundance of healers and minstrels (minstrels are a class that can influence mood and feelings through music or other forms of art, whereas healers are more physical healing and such - there are limits!). The general practices of this clan include festivals (they have a lot of festivals just for fun), the arts and story-telling (collected from travels), herbal medicine and toxicology. They are very in tune with nature and don't have any temples. They do have one priest who is also the clan leader. She (all genders are equal from birth - no one has set roles for them by gender, but, instead, by the type of animal they are. Foxes and kingfishers will be the hunters, for example, while the leader is a bear, and nurses are more gentle creatures and such)... She makes all the final decisions. Everyone comes to her for advice. She is also a healer - a very strong healer (her magic can extract essential oils from plants in masses, and she can also heal surface founds by moving her hands over them. Her chanting might cure minor hidden lesions as well). Also, since it's a very loving community, they give their young pet names based on plants or herbs.
STEAMPUNK CITIES (near the capitol of the kingdom; these are possible names up for consideration and the cities still need fleshing out) Noble cities: Havencliff, Fairkeep, Silverwind, Fairedge, Eridell, Corwyn Normal, middle-class sort of towns: Freydale, Merritown, Raybourne, Northfort, Newmont, Lochpine Mysterious Towns (Wealthy to Middle): Baymoor, Starryview, Snowbridge, Goldice, Wolfbarrow, Greyfall

[ROUGH]
Geology... As'arden: think Northern Ireland Th'ardrod: wooded mountainous area... Think Canadian Rockies in summer (only snows on the mountains, unless there's a cold front) Faerang: think amazon rainforest near the river, but they made their home in the prairie. The volcano also on the rainforest - they grow their crops against the slope.
Faerang trade: They will VERY rarely trade veggies and exotic things with the As'ardens (being hedonistic for the most part). The elders will travel to the library and buy some books and scrolls/writing materials, but this happens once every other month (not often, in other words). Armor and weaponry.
Soldier trade: Imperial mercenaries, Imperial military service
Diet: The Faerang diet is predominantly meat, but they grow barley and fruit (on the slope of the volcano) from which they make beer and sweeten their food, and some berries in the forest and fish from the river.
Dueling (not allowed to kill; usually without weapons - this is predetermined): If two males are interested in the same girl, they duel for her hand. If there's any argument, duel, unless it's serious in which case it should be presented to the alpha in charge at once.
Alpha family: NPC Warren (alpha male/King) - tradition-fast, collected, immensely powerful and authoritative, but kind-hearted and protective. NPC Sheeta (alpha female/Queen) - controlling, enforcing her husband's reign, possessive over her little ones. 2 alpha female cubs (Princesses) 3 alpha male cubs (Princes)
Festivals: Lunar (full moon) - feasts, music and dancing around fires (strictly peaceful). Eclipse - much like Lunar festivals, but with meditative worship to both Fire and Sky gods. They sacrifice all their gold to the volcano. Coronation - Prince battles King for power in front of all. Winner is "blessed" by the gods. They sacrifice all their gold to the volcano to ask the gods to bestow this blessing upon their new king. Birth - feast, music and gifts to the mother. If they are purely alphas, the gifts are significant to the family that offers them. When an alpha is born, all gold is sacrificed to the volcano.
