On the surface: Kuroi is a laid back, relaxation seeking guy that doesn't like to work very often. Of course, he won't complain about having to though. He can normally be found sleeping in the shade or reading a book underneath a tree. He is mostly happy and has a smile on his face nearly every hour of the day. Despite his lazy exterior, Kuroi is a power hungry fiend and will resort to anything necessary to achieve his goals.
But deep down: Kuroi has always been a lazy person. He never did very well in school because he just slept most of the time. When he was about 10, Kuroi's parents decided to move, but he stayed behind with his grandparents because he didn't want to leave his friends behind. His life grew very difficult when they became ill and passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Kurotsuchi only stayed for the funeral and went back to their new home. Once again Kuroi decided to stay behind.
Skip forward a few years and Kuroi was exploring the outer edges of Icirrus City and encountered a small boy. He wouldn't talk. The older of the two tried for almost an hour to get him to speak before he grew frustrated and flicked the boy. His form shifted and revealed that it was a pokemon after all, a disguised Zorua. He caught the Zorua and the two quickly became friends. The two ventured together for a while and then encountered more pokemon, caught a couple, and they became a close knit family.
