i feel like gaia admins and mods and devs are on the usa side and they are like the border patrol and somehow us gaia users are on the mexico side and when we cross over to tell them how we feel about the fence and barrier that they have put up between us then us users on here well then thats when we get banned and or our posts deleted and warned **************************************************************************************** ***************************************************************************************** GAIA NEEDS TO TEAR THIS BARRIER DOWN and talk to its users but its not gonna happen sad and this is sad if everyone on gaia knew the real truth (whatever that may be) maybe more people could make an informed decision as to rather or not they wafted to stay here by the way does anyone get what i have done with the post above? if you think about it for just a moment you might just get it

Inflation hit both in Alta California and Gaia, and in both cases the other side of the fence began to look better...

Your US/Mexico border fence analogy is flawed.
The fence was erected in a desperate attempt to prevent undocumented immigrants and fleeing criminals from screwing up the economy and trafficking contraband.
So it's more like the Government is the staff making all sorts of bad decisions all willy nilly and caring only about money, the US citizens are the regular members desperate for a solution, the border-fence is a badly planned out gold sink that doesn't help, and Mexico is Flynn's Booty, Chest, and Plunder. Anyone who disagrees with the government's decision about the fence or anything else in regards to how they handle things, gets labeled a terrorist.
As far as analogies go, I prefer Animal Farm. Gaia is the Animal Farm, doing things different from the rest of reality. At first everything was good, when everyone worked together to have a good time. But then the pigs started getting greedy and changing the rules when no one was looking to suit their own needs. They're milking the cows dry, working the horses to death, and sicking the dogs to kill anyone who protests. My darkest fear is the new CEO sending us all to the glue factory to fund a new website.

I agree with Xena. I find the border analogy to be flawed. The us border and its guards are there for a REASON and a very good one. Having lived in a city that was affected greatly by illegal immigration (Oxnard, check the numbers there. 95% Mexican population. That in itself is not bad but it is estimated that over 70% of that population is illegal.) I wish they would be MORE strict with immigration.
But that is neither here nor there. My opinions on immigration have nothing to do with Gaia.
I think Xena's version fit very well.

As an Honorary Hispanic (I was born and raised in San Antonio, I share similar culture, but get called "Wheta" when I walk down the street) I totally get what you are saying. But just like immigration this is a complex issue with no easy resolution to appease everyone... There is still always going to be some old southern confederate white supremacist who wants all the browines out. There is always going to be a demand for us to make cash purchases. bottom line is this land had and always will be inhabited by immigrants... the original native populations migrated from Siberia on the Beiring land bridge before or during the Ice Age when sea levels were lower. Gaia has survived for so long because of the community. What happens when you cut off the new immigrants or members? Who is going to pick your fields? Who is going to play your games and tell friends and potential customers about this site?
Also that border fence looks like Cali... I have never seen walls like that in Texas... Lots of private ranches and farms mostly along the border. Maybe some private owners have fences and their own border conrtol. But I can tell you it isn't enough. There is a large population of illegal immigrants in San Antonio... My personal stance on the subject? I could care less. People are people. It doesn't matter to me about citizenship... People may argue "They're stealing our jobs..." I would honestly be more worried about the Chinese... LOL Manufacturing center of the world... Their economy is booming and they're moving up in the world... Only a matter of time before the Red Threat will be knocking at our door demanding a return on investments just like Gaia's investors did... Funny how many real world parallels this situation has... Maybe it comes with the more mature member base.
Well good post... I like the coloring... there is a lot you are missing though... Maybe together we can hammer out more of the specifics and parallels and differences between RL and Gaia...
As far as trafficking and criminals go, it is always going to happen as long as there is a demand for the goods... And there will always be a demand... So as long as there are gangs and cartels in power and causing violence there will be people fleeing. Many illegal immigrants come to America for the same reason Many Irish and Jews and Muslims have come here... Because America has been a beacon of hope. Hope for opportunity, for peace, But just like a light house in the dark, it will attract marauders.
Gee you picked a very controversial issue... but I think it fits quite well... But we can only analyze the situation so much... now is the time to take action... outside of Gaia... Maybe get this situation in the public spotlight... I know many good hearted caring Americans out there would be sympathetic to our plight... It is about getting what is happening put out there... Someone has to care that this corporate bastardization is doing everything it can to take advantage financially of it's community with misleading sales, bad business tactics and legal form of gambling/gaming addiction... They could self destruct before then...

At the risk of derailing to thread: It sounds like you're confusing hate for Illegal immigration with racist hate for immigration in general. The fence wasn't put up to keep all immigrants out, it's to keep people from passing through without documentation. Undocumented immigrants are dangerous to our society because: 1) They don't pay taxes - Local and state taxes pay for things like police, firefighters, hospitals, schools, city parks, road maintenance, etc, etc, Things immigrants use too. Every undocumented worker hikes up our taxes to cover the expenses they use. It's like having a roommate who doesn't pay rent. 2) Because they are undocumented, they have no records in the event of a crime. An illegal immigrant could murder someone and leave s hand written confession with a card of finger prints and a DNA sample but the police can't do anything with it unless they have a suspect already in custody to compare them too. The United States was founded by immigrants but documentation and records for every citizen has become an important part of our society that makes our modern life possible. Don't confuse racism with hate for illegal immigrants. Outside of immigration, as I mention before, the fence helps to discourage human and drug trafficking, criminals fleeing/entering the country, smuggling, etc, etc. Or at least that was the plan...

This is why it is conrtoversial... I was not confusing the two. I was trying to encompass all sides. I could care less about any damn fence... The fence isn't stopping the 18-wheeler full of people and pot and heroin... lol It is not making the police across the border take action against gangs and cartels. Going to war against drugs and immigration will do nothing but cripple all sides. Gandhi this time. "An Eye for an Eye makes the whole world blind." It starts at the personal level. You make the choice to embody peace love and understanding and you can defeat evil and ignorance or you can let it consume you while you aren't looking.
I am documented, yet I do not pay taxes, am I a threat or danger? Mind you I have never collected a paycheck. I understand your argument about the criminal aspect, but how many illegal immigrants have you personally met? Attending public school in San Antonio many of my classmates were descended from illegal immigrants or the are illegal themselves. Can you imagine what it is like to be a young person trying to live your life and get an education to escape rampant poverty while stressing being deported or worse, and scraping a living doing mostly undesirable low paying jobs? It is often times still better than the dirt floor shack they came from. Racism and hate for illegal immigrants are no different to me... You shouldn't hate anyone because of their status. I'll quote DR KING JR on this one "Judge not by the color of their skin [or their immigration status], but by the content of their character."

I spent about an hour breaking down your response and replying to it point by point, delving heavily into how taxes work, legal dependents, California's economic and healthcare collapses, etc... but then I deleted it because that's getting too involved in an issue that does not belong in this thread or guild. Just know: I am Hispanic. I grew up in a very racist and heavily white southern country (mostly S.Baptist) small town in the bible belt region of Florida. Even though I am Puerto Rican and thus just as legal as everyone else born in the states and English is my first language, I was treated as and even called an illegal Mexican. The only other Hispanic (and catholic) people in the area were all Mexican both illegal and not. I have known poverty, at one point in my childhood sleeping on cardboard in a rundown, leaky mobile home and eating nothing but ramen because we couldn't afford beds or groceries after we moved and the only jobs my parents could get were in construction and housekeeping even though one was retired air-force E-5 and the other held a college degree. I am not an immigrant but I have been treated as such as well as experiencing heavy racism (even from teachers in school). I have seen both sides of the coin. I have known and made friends with many immigrants legal and not from all over the world(benefits of living close to a major university). My views and opinions are not stated lightly, they come from my observations and experiences within my 25 years of life. I have experienced discrimination for my race (as a Puerto Rican and assumed Mexican), for my religion (Catholic), for the color of my skin (I have fair skin so some people assume I'm white, so I've gotten racist remarks from Black and Hispanic people who don't know me), for my gender (girl), for my style (big hoop earring and colorful clothes are considered "hoochie" in the bible belt), etc, etc... Trust me, do not put racism and hate for illegals together, they are not the same though often seen together and often confused.
