So, I was just reading Matthew 3 and then I started thinking, why did the holy spirit come unto Jesus after baptism?

I thought it had come down to Him when he was conceived. Did he only receive the spirit after baptism, and could only..give it up after his resurrection?

And..then I wondered also why did Jesus have to die for the holy spirit to come to believers on Pentecost when the holy spirit was already working in the Old Testament?

Don't worry, it is not a contradiction (there are non).

The Holy Spirit was already with Jesus, the answer is "Yes." "For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one" (I John 5:7). God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are One, so they are always together.

He was anointed by the Holy Spirit. Oil in the OT is a type of the Holy Spirit: "But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth...As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit -- just as it has taught you, remain in him," (1 John 2:20,27).

Jesus was baptized because He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood. He was priest after the order of Melchizedek (Psalm 110:4; Heb. 5:8-10; 6:20). Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin (1 Pet. 2:24; 2 Cor. 5:21) in His role as priest.

The Holy Spirit, and Jesus baptism happened because; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."

It also bare witness to the world of what authority Jesus spoke. Both God in heaven and the Holy Spirit gave him the seal of approval so to speak.

There was/is a sect of Christian believers, who believed God, in any form, didn't come to Mary to conceive Jesus... instead, God came down and possessed Christ after his Baptism and then left right before Christ died on the cross.

Where I find it important to often question your beliefs, it is up to you to find the answers. So, I ask... what do you believe is the answers to your questions? And, why do you believe them? You don't have to answer here, but in your own time and own spiritual place.

Jesus said, "I solemnly assure you, no one can enter into God’s kingdom without being begotten of water and Spirit" (John 3:5). At the ascension, our Lord commanded the apostles, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations. Baptize them in the name ‘of the father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.’ Teach them to carry out everything I have commanded you" (Matt. 28:19-20). In another account of the ascension, Jesus added, "The man who believes in [the good news] and accepts Baptism will be saved; the man who refuses to believe in it will be condemned" (Mark 16:16).

Yup. It's called Adoptionism, and I believe it was largely popular in early Christianity, prior to Trinitarianism (the traditional Christian view of the Trinity being one God in three persons simultaneously and eternally) being declared as authoritative. I'm sure there are still people who adhere to Adoptionism, but it's been eclipsed by Trinitarianism for centuries.
