She listened to his explanation and then gave a slight shrug. "Seems to me your not getting much out of the deal, but I suppose that's because I don't place any value on things like souls."
If you couldn't taste it, feel it, fight it, then what was the point?
"Will you head towards the outer edge of the forest tomorrow then? Lots of families out there with plenty of desires I'm certain." Not that he'd take advantage of yearlings if he was as fair as he said. She had no such scruples, in her view if no one taught yearlings and toughened them up they would just grow weak.

Smiling at her words, he said, "All material items are transient. Everything ends eventually, even life. So, what can be more valuable than the one thing that lasts forever?" His father had spent his life gathering things. Things he said were of great value. But when he died, it was all worthless. It could probably used to buy a small kingdom, but that wouldn't bring back a life. So, what was the point? If it can't keep you alive, and it won't last after you are dead, than it's worthless. And there is no point in bargaining for worthless trinkets.
"Hard to say. Soft herla aren't much worth bargaining with. It'll be good for when I'm ready to leave the area. Do some easy trades, get some supplies for my next trip, and then head out. But the big deals won't be over that way." He said, looking in the direction she had mentioned for the swamp.

Hmph, but what guarantee was there that a soul did last beyond life? The voice brushed against her a gentle reminder the guardian she ignored.
Instead she let her gaze follow his and frowned shaking her head lightly. "I wouldn't recommend venturing into the swamp alone. Oh the outskirts of it near the delta are safe enough, but once you go deeper...well Ghavials aren't the only concern."
It would be a pity if he went and got himself killed, but he was no family of hers to fret over.

The swamp seemed like quite a dangerous place, but she seemed to be very familiar with it. "And yet herla live there? They must be a very sturdy breed. Perhaps I should get to know them. Could be a mutually beneficial arrangement." Odd herla tended to have advantages he could make use of at a later point. Favors could prove very valuable in the future.
"If you don't mind my asking, which way do you plan to go?" He asked, curious about this strange woman. Her heart seemed to want to go back to the swamp. Perhaps some unfinished business. But her head wanted to a different direction. Was she at her cross roads, between what she knew was safe, and what she knew was right? Perhaps time would tell.

"Some do indeed..." She'd been surprised herself to leave the power plant and realize other herla lived in and beyond the swamp. Her exploration of the hartlands had taught her much.
"Me? I've no particular route planned I've simply been wandering about observing for the moment." She hated how uncertain her existence sounded, but she couldn't verywell admit that the swamp she kept warning him was so dangerous was the one place that drew her in.

"Nothing wrong with wandering, though you seem to be sticking around here for the most part. Are you sure you don't have some unfinished business here?" He asked. The concern in his voice was genuine, though it also covered the curiosity he felt on the issue. She seemed pleasant enough, but business was business. Perhaps a deal could be made. Though what deal was yet to be determined.
And maybe after the deal was done, something more can could come of it. But it was always hard to tell.

"The hartlands are comfortable enough that's my only reason for lingering..." That and the fact she couldn't give up the thought of returning home someday. Why she'd want to go back to a place where food and water were so hard to come by she wasn't sure, but she hadn't felt right since she'd left.
"My only business now is to take care of myself." She finally muttered and looked at him curious at the concern in his voice. She smirked and tossed her hair back. "Trying to think of a deal for my soul?"

Smiling, his empty orbs turned to look her in the eye. "You have too strong of a soul. I wouldn't be able to find a fair trade for you." Sadly, strong souls tended to come with quite a cost, but even if her soul wasn't on the line, he might be able to get something out of her. He just wasn't sure quite what yet. But the night was young, and they weren't going anywhere at the moment. Perhaps something would make itself evident.
"You say your only business now, so what was your business before?" He asked with mild curiosity.

She grinned at his words, good at least he recognized her strength, it was her pride, her mark of survival. She finally broke her gaze away from his when he asked about her business. Hmph, what was her business indeed...
She was silent for a long moment before she settled her head down and closed her eyes. "Nothing like yours, I was just surviving in a very harsh place...not many other herla around besides my brothers and myself. At least none I ever saw. I considered teaching yearlings...." Shego gave a faint shrug, the conversation petered out and she decided to feign sleep rather than discuss her aimlessness.

While subtle clues let him realize she wasn't actually sleeping, he decided to respect her privacy, and not push the issue. Sitting in silence for a while, he watched the world pass. Never much of a heavy sleeper himself, he enjoyed the quiet of the evening, and the occasional sound of the forests various forms of life, doing what ever it was they did while the world slept.
After a while, he shifted himself into a more comfortable position, his back against a rock, that he might be shielded on at least one side. Resting his head on his side, he allowed himself to drift to sleep, wondering what dreams might come.
