It had been some time since Zale had been in the area. He couldn't say why it all felt so foreign to him, since he'd seen these same hills, fields, and forests before. Ever since he'd stepped off the boat it had been as if he were dreaming. He was here, but then, he really wasn't all the same.

Elijah tried his best to bring his new found friend from his funk, but at the end of the day Zale was still the same. It wasn't that he was unhappy, far from it, he was just...lost. His son was grown, his friends had moved on, and he'd split with his mate. Life had moved on without him, it seemed, leaving him along on the craggy shore with nothing, but a fishing rod.

All day he'd been on the shore; fixing nets, gathering lobsters in traps, and eating some of his catch when he felt the need. It was a good, quiet, calm life that he'd never really been comfortable with. Maybe he should go to the festival? He could buy Armaeo a gift if he did, but then he'd have to talk with people....

Stalking through the woods, Hatshepsut held tightly to her spear. She was crouched low to the ground, her eyes on a deer she'd been hunting. A grand buck, with a huge rack of antlers that would make wonderful weapons, and plenty of meat to feed her family. Her father could eat quite a bit...

She crawled closer, and closer... She aimed her spear, aaaannd- Suddenly, something snapped nearby. The buck bolted away, the spear missing it by mere inches. "Damn!" she snarled, dashing forward to grab the spear. She got her hand around the handle, and froze. Something yellow was nearby....

She looked over at the male suddenly not far from where she stood. Had he been there the whole time? Had he been the one to startle the deer? Tensing, she kept herself still. Maybe he hadn't seen her...

It wasn't that uncommon to hear the sounds of a hunt in the woods near the beach, but when it breached his area Zale turned around, his attention fully captured.

He would have seen her much sooner, with such bold stripes, if he'd been looking. As it stood he just quirked a brow, holding his fishing rod in a loose grip. Was she coming to fish? He couldn't see what she was holding clearly, but he- Oh, oh, that was a spear. Definite weapon.

Ah, well, not like he hadn't seen a spear before. "Are you hungry?" He called out, "I'm about to pull in the catch and the lines heavy, so somethings in there. Probably more than I can eat myself."

Crap! He saw her! Darn these stripes! They helped at night, but with the sun out... Well, it didn't look like he was attacking...

Yanking her spear out of the ground, she started to turn away before being called to. Ears perking, she slowly turned back with narrowed eyes and pressed lips. Was he offering her food? Well, why not! He'd scared off her buck!

She sniffed at the air, and took a couple steps closer. What if this was some sort of trick? Her magenta eyes darted around, checking for signs of a trap of some sort. "You... mean you need help pulling the net up?" So many what-ifs in this situation.

He could just see how pleasurable she was going to be. Zale had been around enough taurs in his day to understand what such a closed off expression meant, and he was about to retract his offer, had she not been already on her way over. Wary or agressive; he hoped for the first.

"Well, if you want to, sure. You don't have to, though. I was kind of thinking you could just gather up some drift wood for a fire." He shrugged his shoulders, set his catch in a little crook on the sand, and went over to the water. Zale hesitated at first, almost as if he shouldn't be near water at all, before finally slipping into the surf.

Ears twitching, Shep walked a little closer. Gather wood for a fire? Her lips pursed at the suggestion of being given such a menial task. It was well beneath her. Of course, this stranger couldn't be expected to know that.

Still, she kicked a couple pieces of driftwood together and used her magic to set them aflame. "Fire's done," she said, turning to stand at the water's edge and observe what the male was doing. She certainly wasn't going to go into the water after him!

"That's great! Thanks." When Zale turned to look at her he was all smiles, but when he looked back out over the ocean he suddenly wished he was alone. Something about this female set him on edge. Hell, he didn't even know her, and only NOW he was starting to think it was a bad idea to invite an armed woman over for food.

His father would have a heart attack if he knew.

Zale backtracked out of the water, pulling and tugging, grunting with each pull to maneuver the net out of the surf. He wasn't sure what was in it, but whatever it was was giving quite the fight! "Here!" He tossed her an edge of the net that he'd had bunched in his hands. "Pull!"

Catching her end of the net with ease, she wrinkled her nose as the saltwater splashed all over her, some of the wet rope looping around her arms. Uuuuuuuuugh!

Still, the moment she felt the catch fighting, she instinctively fought back. Her paws dug into the sand as she leaned back and pulled. She bared her teeth and growled, getting in only a step at a time. "What do you have in here?!" she demanded to know, snarling slightly as it yanked her forward a step!

Thick tanned muscles flexed as Zale reeled in his net. He stepped back into the surf, raising his tail above the spray with golden tendrils falling on his damp face. The male made slow progress, laughing openly with a grin on a maw.

"Oh, some stones. Big, heavy ones, covered-" He grunted, hauling in an arm full, only to feel resistance among the breaking waves. "-barnacles!"

Making her own slow progress, her brow rose at the male's response. Was he being serious, or just pulling her tail? "If I'm seriously helping you pull a bunch of rocks out here, you'll be getting one shoved up your a-ahh!" She was yanked forward as the current tugged at her end, stumbling a couple steps before bracing against the bottom again. What a pain... Why was she still fighting this darned net?

Zale quirked his mouth with what was starting to be a laugh, and was cut off abruptly by a wave completely swamping him. He coughed on salt water to the point where he became aggravated, and his skin began to steam. It burned through the water clinging to him, even going so far as to warm his hair to a fluffy consistency. Without seeming to notice, Zale helped Shep to bring in the line to the shallow end, even so that he could see a fine catch of fat fish.

"Well, it's no rock, but I'm a hell of a lot happier to see these guys, anyway."

The wave that swamped the male merely soaked Shep's fur, but she still growled in irritation. This wasn't worth- ...or was it?

Her eyes widened as the payload finally revealed itself. So many fish! "Screw the rocks," she practically purred as she yanked the catch up another few feet, the tails of the fish starting to flap at the surface of the water.
