A lot of Christians are on the fence about it so...
How do you feel about drinking? Is it a sin? Why/why not?

All 4 of my grandparents as well as my father were alcohol abusers. Because of that, I think of it as a toxic thing and I rarely ever touch it. That demon is in my genetics, waiting for me to lose my control. A glass of wine with my mom or a drink with a friend are fine, but I very rarely let it go any further than that.
On the rare occasions that I do drink to excess (which is between 2 and 3 drinks in....I am a serious lightweight), I spend about an hour feeling like I'm invincible, then I make some poor decision and immediately regret everything. So then I spend the rest of the night hating myself, and I either cry a lot or find a new terrible impulse to act on. It's all bad, and it's really just better if I leave the stuff alone.
My partner enjoys a cold beer at the end of a long day. Sometimes one beer becomes several beers and that's ok with me. He feels that he can handle his drinking, and he does not behave out of character when he does so. I also don't care if other people like to go to the bar and get tipsy. That's their decision, and sometimes that's a fun thing to do. I just choose not to make it a routine event in my life because I ME MYSELF cannot handle it responsibly.

I think it is only acceptable to drink wine, and in very little amount. Wine is proven to help the heart, therefor it is beneficial to the body. The other stuff like beer, and harder liquors were made solely for getting intoxicated in my eyes. And over indulging in alcohol is harmful to the body. Life is a gift so doing something careless like over drinking is a sin in my eyes, it harms the body, and clouds your judgement. You cant honor God with clouded judgement.

Jesus drank wine. I think it's ok to have a drink here and there, but to get totally wasted is what I don't agree with. Personally, I don't drink (or do drugs) because my two grandfathers were alcoholic, and I also lived in a home with addictions (my dad's a drug addict) so I just don't do any of that stuff. But as long as a person can control and limit themselves then it's not bad.

There is nothing in scripture that says imbibing alcohol is a sin in and of itself.
That being said, it's all too common for people to make really, really bad choices while drunk. Alcohol is also harder on your body than many illegal drugs (and not nearly as fun). Alcohol is also one of the few drugs with potentially fatal withdrawals. (It's very rare, and you'd have to be a really hardcore alcoholic to develop that degree of physical dependence, but it's possible.)
So yeah, I think alcohol is a pretty lame drug, but I also don't think there is anything wrong with having a drink now and again, provided that you can do so while acting responsibly.

Crunchy Fetus I think it is only acceptable to drink wine, and in very little amount. Wine is proven to help the heart, therefor it is beneficial to the body. Life is a gift so doing something careless like over drinking is a sin in my eyes, it harms the body, and clouds your judgement. You cant honor God with clouded judgement. Beer is considerably less alcoholic than wine. Only red wine is good for the heart, and there are many other, non-alcoholic things that have the same anti-oxidants in them. There are also loads of people who enjoy beer, whiskey, vodka, rum, gin, etc. for the taste, so...yeah, it doesn't really make sense to give wine a stamp of approval and condemn all other alcoholic beverages. Anything containing alcohol has more or less the same potential for abuse, as well as enjoying responsibly in moderation. cheese_whine

The Holy Quran, 5:90-91 "You who believe! Intoxicants and Gambling, all are an abomination of Satan's handiwork. Eschew such abomination, that you may prosper. Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of God, and from prayer; will you not then abstain?"
