I've been attracted to violin/cello/viola music lately, and I want to learn a string instrument sometime in my life. My dad keeps trying to teach me guitar, but I'm not very good. I was wondering how hard playing a violin is. It's what I've been drawn to most, lately. Any violinist out there that can tell me a little bit about playing?

The violin isn't exactly the simplest instrument.
I'd say that it gives a bit more freedom in movement, hence not having frets to guide the hands. That's really more or less a matter of having knowledge of where it is that your notes are, but once that's mapped out, it's much smoother accessibility and movement. I easily prefer this over the fretboard that guitars provide.
Excluding that, the other aspect that the violin introduces that the guitar doesn't [much], is a bow. There are numerous bowing techniques, which require varying levels of skill to accomplish. It isn't extremely difficult, though relative to using a pick, it rather could be, depending on the person. It can take a decent amount of time to be able to bow without making unwanted squeaks, or other various noises, but I think that it's worth the effort.
It should also be taken note of that the violin doesn't have as broad of a genre range in comparison to the guitar, though I have seen many metal and rock violinists.
If you have any other questions that I didn't answer, feel free to ask.
I attempted a basic comparison/summary.

... Or it could be a look of somber silence struggling with fear...
What do you see reflected in your face???

I think the guitar is just too much for me. I think violin, or viola, would be easier because of the more freedom, but also shorter neck. I pick up things pretty fast when it comes to music, so memorizing where the notes are should be easy. If I do choose to play, I'll go in knowing the bow will be a problem for me. I've seriously given this a lot of thought, thinking about what might be difficult for me to pick up and what should be easier.
I understand the genre is limited, usually slower, more mellow music, unless, of course, you are advanced enough to do metal/rock. That's really the major thing I've been drawn to is the more classical, calming music. We only play 70s-90s rock in band with an occasional theme song (Star Wars, Scooby Doo, etc.), so that would be a change. I'm going into high school next year, so I'm going to give myself time to think about it until then. I'll most likely still play flute, but pick up basic violin lessons on the side.
