The weather was warm and breezy, with the sun high in the sky and the leaves rustling as Mae walked past. Tiny chirps of curiosity could be heard from behind the young purple-haired lad, from the backpack he carried slung over his shoulder. Usually, he preferred to carry Darke in his arms, but since they were going on a lengthy trek, he'd decided it would be best if the little Keinling had a better resting spot. the sky-feathered creature poked its head from the bag in wonder, peeping at the leaves that fell from the trees. His wide eyes watched their decent to the forest floor. If his wings weren't tucked securely in the bag to hinder escape, he might have eagerly gone after them, but alas, they were. Only his head was free to gaze in awe at the scenery as Maeron walked along.

The youngster was more than eager to teach Darke everything he could, even if the Keinling wouldn't remember it, once he was fully grown. Naturally, the Alkein wasn't interested in books, and even if he was, he still didn't understand what Mae was reading to him, so after some debate, the Orderite had decided that the best way for Darke to learn while in this stage was by sight. And they were pretty much stuck on Serenia until someone learned to fly, which might take forever. So, they were off to explore all of Serenia's wonders, starting with Lake Tyluafel. Serene waters with great healing properties... All kinds of knowledge could be gathered here! plus, it was closer to Mae's home. And after an hour or two of walking, Darke started to get heavy, so it was best not to stray terribly far from his home.

As the lake came into view, Maeron beamed. "Look, Darke!" He called out in excitement. The Alkein's peeping ceased breifly as the Orderite knelt down and slipped his backpack from his shoulders to the ground in front of him. He unzipped the bag slowly, careful not to let Darke's soft, downy feathers catch in the zipper, despite the Keinling's sudden, excited bouncing. Mae had to smile at that too, since he was pretty sure Darke was catching his own eagerness. Once unzipped, Mae lifted his young charge from his confines, setting him carefully down in the soft grass, a safe distance away from the water's edge. Not that Darke would willingly go in, anyway... He hated baths... The Keinling tilted his head at the glistening expanse displayed before him, but overall, he seemed more interested in the bugs hopping through the grass. Maeron could only sigh and shake his head as his sky-colored companion pounced sloppily after a grasshopper.

Meanwhile, a certain brown Keinova griped as he flew toward Serenia. Living in the middle of the desert sure had its drawbacks... Mainly the fact that there was no clean, flowing, beautiful water anywhere, which meant that getting a good bath was a challenge. Usually, Sam didn't mind too much. He hated being wet, and he was pretty sure he could get most grime off by rolling about in the sand. But when his clan-mates starting complaining about smell... Samael huffed. He should've told them he was out protecting them and their territory by slaying Dragons, so they could at least tolerate the smell of blood that clung to him. Instead, he'd tucked his tail between his legs, muttered a quiet apology and fluttered off toward the ocean, where he usually went to bathe.

But as he'd landed amongst the sand, he really couldn't get himself to set foot in the water. Honestly, the ocean was filthy absolutely no cleaner than he was. Plus the salt made his wings feel even stickier than regular water, and Sam despised that horrid, sticky feeling. He'd danced at the edge of the waves, debating whether or not to go in. This was the nearest source of water he had, despite how it stank worse than he did and would do nothing to relieve the vile smell. But since he absolutely hated this task, why should he go out of his way to accomplish it? It was always a decision Sam loathed making. As he dipped his claws into the murky water and felt the chill right up through his spine, he decided he could stand to take a small detour to cleaner (and possibly warmer waters). And that's what had Sam making the much longer trip across the ocean and toward Serenia. There was all kinds of clean water there, with two lovely lakes he could preen in.

Sam frowned as he passed the large city on the continent. Even from above, the area it spanned was amazing. Maybe once he could assume two-legged form, he'd go check that out. But he doubted he'd be very welcome passing through the city now... He let his mind leave that thought as he spotted the lake. The flight had been shorter than he hoped. Clean water or not, he still wasn't keen on that bath. But two specks by the lakeside caught his attention; one purple, and one sky-colored. It was hard to tell from above, but Sam was pretty sure only one of those specks was a two-legger. Frowning, he glided down to land before them. At seeing the Keinling with a human, Sam could only shake his head. "What is a little one like this doing out here with only a little Orderite for company?"

Maeron's arm shot out to reclaim Darke within his hold as a shadow crossed over them. Needless to say, the young Orderite felt trepidation as a fully grown Drakein landed before him and his charge. Mae hated to admit it, but he wasn't sure if he'd be able to take on an adult Drakein on his own... Maybe once his bonded was a little bigger and more capable of fending for himself, but for now...? "What do you want?" Maeron asked stiffly, dragging Darke into his arms despite the Alkein's wriggling.

Sam blinked a bit, kind of surprised by the boy's hostility. Most Orderites he'd met so far had been friendly and childish. And none of them were trying to care for a little Keinling. Not that Sam had ever had to do that, so what did he know...? Well, probably still more than this kid! "Nothing!" Samael snipped, undeniably offended by the outburst. "I was only curious! I haven't met any of you so-called, bondeds, so I only wanted to chat, a bit. But... I'm not really sure you know how to take care of a baby... You had him stuffed in a bag..." Sam uttered, frowning. That, and who knows how far this kid was from home. You can't just bring a Keinling out into the wild like this! It's dangerous! "What's his name? Sorry, I should probably ask yours first. I'm Samael."

Maeron scowled. This Drakein was kinda rude. Of course, he was just a beast, so the young Orderite didn't expect much else. He'd have to teach Darke manners, too... "I'm Mae, and this is Darke." The boy answered, gesturing to the squirming, peeping, feathery Keinling in his arms.

Sam held his tongue about how Mae was a girl's name, and instead lowered his head to set his eyes of the Alkein. "You're going to be a talker." The older Drakein chuckled. At being stared at by something so much being than him, the Keinling tucked itself down into Mae's arms, ruffling and fluttering his wings in defense. Sam leaned forward to sniff the youngster. He could practically feel Mae tense up, but honestly, there wasn't much they boy could do about it. As he drew nearer, Darke erupted in a frenzy of peeps, struggling in Mae's grasp again, his little wings beating ferociously to fend off the large Drakein. It only made Sam smile fondly. Keinlings were so cute. And out here in the open was no place for them. Samael turned his attention back to the boy. "I'm sure you're eager to show him off, but it's not safe out here. He's too young to be exploring right now. Maybe in a few weeks, when you can communicate more effectively to him, but for now..."

A quiet splash sounded in the water behind him. Sam turned sharply to gaze over his shoulder, but saw nothing except for a still lake. Mae didn't seem to notice anything at all, so maybe he was just hallucinating...? As he turned back to the boy, he heard another, louder splash. Mae heard it too, and he perked up quickly, teal eyes going wide as he gazed behind the Drakein.

Sam whirled around. Out in the middle of the lake, a scaled, blue head poked up. An uneasy prickle went down the Drakein's spine. He still hadn't had much luck with Peisios, and with a youngster like Darke running around, it didn't seem like a good idea to engage in a fight. Maybe if none of them moved, it wouldn't notice them... Mae seemed to realize this too. His arm wound a little tighter around his bonded, but other than that, he remained immobile.

Unfortunately... Darke was not convinced. He couldn't see the beast with Sam right in front of him. All he knew was that Mae's grip had tightened enough to hurt. He let out a pained squeak, turning his feathered head up to glower at the Orderite. Maeron's eyes widened ever further, if possible, at the sound. "Darke...!" He hissed out warningly, but it was too late. The head in the water swiveled to spot them, letting out and alarming screeching sound that had Sam on high alert.

the sound seemed to summon even more of the beasts, so that there was a total of three staring them down. One of the heads disappeared back under the water. Seconds later, it reappeared only a few feet away, launching a harsh jet of water out at the three of them. Maeron gasped and staggered backwards as a wall of solid rock appeared seemingly from nowhere to block them. Something heavier than water hit it, but Mae wasn't sure he should stick around to find out what.

Sam snarled as one of the Dragons crashed through his defense, sending splinters of rock all around. The three beasts were all on them now. Samael raised a paw to slash at one of them, gouging it across the muzzle. It hissed at him and dove, but Sam knew when he was outclassed. he spun, smacking his tail into one and knocking it into another as he fled. Maeron hadn't gotten far. Sam plucked the back of the youngster's shirt up in his teeth and took to the skies. he doubted the Peisios would follow. There was easier prey in the lake.

Mae squealed as his feet left the ground, clinging to Darke and pulling his knees to his chest like a balled up kitten.

"You're welcome!" Sam grumbled around the cloth in his mouth.
