The bible states that the Earth is between 6,000 and 8,000 years old, that it was created in 7 days, and that Man is made of dirt and Woman a piece of Man. The modern church says this is allegory. Where does it say in the bible that it is allegory?

It doesnt, But Man cannot understand how the Lord can accomplish such things.

Nowhere, that's what people say because they are scared of looking stupid.

It doesn't need to be said directly that it's allegory. We know through scientific observation, both with empirical and rationalistic processes that the earth, and even human civilization are far older than 8000 years.

There are only 3 possibilities I see:

1: It's allegorical in some sense, meant more to explain the "fall of man" (by which I think it does in a depth far more intuitively than any other creation story I've ever heard) than the actual birth of the world itself.

2: God is a liar

3: It's the lies of man, with the hubris to claim to channel the voice of God.

So how about we go pragmatic on the issue. The story is obviously very insightful into the nature of human behavior. Whether it's true or not is irrelevant; the implications are all that actually matters to us.

Of course, all of you biblical idolaters out there won't like this. For those of us who view the Bible as man's biased historical accounts, the realization is not one of certainty, but of humility and the honest search for truth.

Book of Genesis says the Earth was created before stars:

Gen 1:1
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Gen 1:16
And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

Book of Job says stars existed before the Earth:

Job 38:4-7
Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof;

When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

Conclusion: some parts of the Bible always were understood metaphorically.

As others have said, it doesn't need to say it's an allegory.

Either you turn a blind eye to heaps of scientific evidence, or you don't interpret it literally.

Since its quite obvious the world isn't 6-8,000 years old people of the book have claimed this was allegorical and mythological in order to refrain from appearing oblivious to scientific data
