If you're going to kill everyone on a ship, take the ship.

As much fun as pirating random pieces of loot is, it's much more profitable to take a ship back for sale than it is to sink or leave it.

Can't stand watching people leaving good ships unsold.

If you got the crew to man both that ship and your own: Sure!
On the other hand: Ships aren't exactly a common trade. The ship better be worth the effort of bringing it back for sale at the black market.
You may risk wasting a lot of time and effort on a big floating piece of poor firewood. User Image

Most cases they don't because you'd need to change the ship to hide it from say whoever owned it before which costs alot. Plus what gakre said. However, one thing they could do is take the ship and sell it for spare parts.

The men're the troublesome part.
If you've got the crew, though, there's not much against bringing the ship back. If you can sell it, damn, that's some good cash.
If not, you've got a backup ship in case your first one blows up or something. Or if you ever need a second ship for tactical purposes.

Reminds me of that old Pirates game. I liked hoarding captured ships and repairing then selling them.

But what if it's full of poisonous bugs, dear?
