This is a copy and paste from a past Naruto character I've used. I might alter it if it's unsuitable later on, but for now it is what it is.
Alexander Raiyoru Umber was born in what was once known as the Land of Rice Fields. However, he is more aligned to the Hidden Cloud after his parents migrated to the Land of Lightning when he was just a child.
His mother, Runa Kobayashi, is a distant relative of the Hidden Leaf’s Nara clan, having shared the same Great-Great-Grandfather along the bloodline, was a woman who had learned much of the same style of shadow manipulation as well as apothecary works. In her youth, her family relocated before the Third Great Ninja War to assist as an ambassador to the Leaf. Runa excelled as a medical ninja, and would pass many of her secrets to medicinal herbs to Alex. Although she was a highly skilled medic, she was an average shadow user at best. Her best, and only original, shadow skill was a jutsu she created to form her body into a shadow itself, being able to use as a portal of sorts to travel to a shadow in the distance, then reform her body to escape from danger.
His father, Erik Umber, is a former ninja and travelling merchant from the Hidden Cloud village in the Land of Lightning. The only notable aspect of Erik’s Ninja career was his incredible endurance, as others in the village would comment on his impressive stamina. This allowed for an impressive ability to refill his chakra pools. Many elders predicted in his childhood that with dedication to learning jutsu, he may reach Raikage status. Though his maximum chakra pools were above average and combined with his stamina made him a dangerous opponent in a long battle, Erik never attained a notable passion for being a ninja. His interests lied in money, business, and his desire to will someone with his words. As a teenager, he would eventually favor developing his silver tongue for his ninjutsu, retiring from missions at the rank of Chuunin.
At 19, as part of a caravan of merchants, Erik met Runa at Post Town, in the Land of Rice. After spending a week in the city, he had to continue on with the caravan. Over the next year on the roads, he would send letters via messenger birds to Runa, telling her of travels. The next time he and the caravan returned, Runa decided to follow him. Her help proved quite necessary as she served as the caravan medic. This included a stint helping Erik overcome a devastating fever in the Land of Stone.
Upon ending his service on the Caravan, Erik and Runa married and returned to the Land of Rice. They used the money Erik had earned from two stints on the caravan and bought a farm outside of Port City. A year later, Alex was born. They lived peacefully together for the next five years as Runa became a nurse, raising many different types of foods and healing herbs on the farm. Erik would end up setting up a shop in the city to help sell the food. As a child, Alex would often help his mother. His mother’s mind and father’s energy helped him advance and learn quickly in the medicinal arts.
At age five, upon the impending pressure and fear of Orochimaru taking power in the Land of Rice, Alex’s family decided that it would be best to flee the country. Upon attempting to return to the Land of Fire and the Hidden Leaf, they were barred from re-entry. As her family would learn, it was in fact her father, an ambassador to the Land which helped lead the way for Orochimaru’s inevitable takeover. Alex’s grandfather, the ambassador, as they would find out later was executed by Leaf ANBU for treason.
With no other choice, Runa, Erik, and Alex would begin the trek to the Lightning Country to the Hidden Cloud, his father’s native village. Originally, they were turned away from entering the Land of Lightning, because of distrust in Runa and her connection to the Hidden Leaf. This was due to recent activities involving a disruption of the Hidden Cloud’s treaty with the Hidden Leaf, most notably the Hyuga clan. However, after much pleading, the family was allowed in, given refugee status. Over time, though he and his mother faced hardships for being outsiders, they would eventually be grudgingly accepted into the Hidden Cloud. This was in large part due to a need in the Hidden Cloud’s ninja academy for a medical ninjutsu teacher, a role which Runa was more than happy to accept.
Alex would eventually grow up and begin to use ninjutsu, learning much of the ways of his mother. At age nine, he would be accepted in the ninja academy. At the Cloud’s ninja academy, Alex began to develop into a competent taijutsu fighter. Learning great speed and quickness, and showing signs of inheriting his father’s impressive endurance. However, he struggled to gain power with, and was slow to transfer his stamina and chakra pools to ninjutsu. This lacking of ninjutsu would stop him from graduating the first year. He finally graduated in his second year, graduating 17th out of 24.
Upon graduation, he was placed in a squad led by Yugito Nii, whom at the time was 22. Under her tutelage, Alex began to awaken his lightning nature, developing several of his techniques from hers. His taijutsu greatly improved as well, developing into one of the fastest in the village, As a Genin under her, Alex completed 78 of his 121 completed missions. Over the next two and a half years, he trained diligently trying to improve. In fact, over time, he began to see his sensei, Yugito, as his rival, though she remained superior to him.
At age 13, Alex’s hard work paid off as he was promoted to Chunin. As a Chunin, Alex was required to disban from Yugito’s team and take over as leader for his own squad of genin. As a leader, he instilled the importance of intelligence on the battlefield and perseverance to his squad of genin, and for a year he led his team to 31 missions. While he wished to continue on as a squad leader, the village had other ideas. Having noted his experience and showing a niche for medical ninjutsu, the Raikage assigned him to six months in strict medical ninjutsu training. He would be taught deeper in the arts by his mother Runa, and an elder healer in the village, Tetsuki.
The training in the mornings with Tetsuki proved to be rather easy. With his chakra control finally developed into a strong weapon, Tetsuki taught Alex how to create fighting pills from the concentrated herbs, as well as to create toxins to fight with. For Alex, the creation of these things was easy, as it mostly used the same techniques he had learned from his mother through the years. Tetsuki also was able to show him how to better control his lightning energy for the benefits of healing on the battlefield.
The training with his mother in the afternoons and evenings, on the other hand, proved to be rather difficult. For the first time, his training would begin to learn her secret arts. The learning of the shadow manipulation was a tricky concept for Alex. His attempts before at her secret arts failed rather badly at first. After about a month of learning, he was finally able to start manipulating his shadow, moving it around with his energy. What he lacked in practice, he made up for in chakra. Although still a bit wild, at the end of three months of training, he had surpassed his mother’s limit. But still, he lacked the ability to create her shadow portal technique. With two weeks left in his medical training, he found himself frustrated not being able to learn the technique. He felt as though for the first time he had failed.
In despair, Alex went to a pond by where him and the rest of Yugito’s team would train. Surprisingly, there was Yugito. For the first time in a long time, they were able to speak, though for the first time, almost as equals. During the conversation, he would confide in her his frustration in not being able to learn the technique of his family. It was then he was given a great piece of advice.
“Sometimes it’s stupid to try and hit something straight on. Why don’t you think of a way to get around it.”
Get…around…it. With those three words, Alex had finally figured out the solution to his mother’s jutsu. Instead of going through an object with a shadow, make the shadow go around him, and turn into a shadow himself. It wasn’t a portal at all. During the final two weeks, Alex learned worked more on how to surround himself with the shadows, going from his regular form to shadow form and getting quicker and quicker with each attempt. As a shadow, he could move much quicker than normal, granted being in this shadow form used much of his chakra reserves.
With training complete, he was put back on active duty, being mixed and matched as a squad medic for specialty missions for the village, some even for the ANBU. Eventually, he was offered a coveted blade offered to top-level ninja. Though he would accept it, his main weapon tools remained shuriken.
At 14 he was made an official ANBU. He served as a medic and learned counter intelligence, as well as a number of techniques to counter several types of jutsu. Though he was never much of a genjutsu specialist, in the ANBU Alex learned how to eliminate opposing genjutsu with ease. He developed quickly as he began to pick up others’ jutsu styles, blending them into his own growing repertoire.
By 15, he had mastered his Lightning element, was nearing completion of the Earth, and had slowly begun developing a few styles from the other elements. Word amongst ninja spread about him perhaps soon advancing to Jonin.
But then, tragedy struck. It was found out that someone had given away top secret information to the Hidden Leaf. There was a betrayer within the village, and all the elders who had reluctantly accepted the presence of Runa Kobayashi and the family now turned their backs on them. Within the village, a manhunt began, culminating in the death of Erik, who had become just a simple merchant in the village. When Alex and Runa were cornered by blinding lightning flashes by other members of the ANBU, Runa told Alex to use the shadow portal technique with her as the object to portal away. Reluctantly, Alex listened as Runa made the ultimate sacrifice for Alex.
Alex fled as quickly as he could to leave the land of Lightning. At the edge of the nation’s border, he was confronted by the only one who could match his speed, Yugito. The two-tailed jinchuuriki merely stood and waited for Alex. When Alex seen her, he stopped for a moment. They said nothing in that brief moment of time which they stood face to face, and yet that moment, they said all they needed to. Alex walked up to her, then continued, walking around her. As Alex sprinted past the border, he could hear the faint grunts of people battling and falling. A tear slipped from his eye, knowing that it was the last time his sensei would ever stand at his side.
Upon leaving the village and the land of Lightning, Alex was declared a missing-nin. Immediately following the the attack on his family, he was pursued by a team of his former teammates in the ANBU. Alex quickly disposed of his former comrades, leaving them stunned with temporary nerve damage. From the battle, he was able to confiscate their supplies, including pills he had helped create for them. Alex also was able to collect a copy of the bingo book, revealing his name had been placed upon it already, the bounty beginning at 250000.
The man without a country would wander the lands for a while, collecting information, weapons, skills. Angry and bitter, he now was on a one man mission to find the ninja who betrayed his land, and what they were after. Although there was a supposed treaty between the Cloud and the Leaf, they never truly trusted each other. He needed answers. He needed a way. He needed help.
At 16, he ventured into the land of Fire in search of Naras, the only link to family he had left. After a week of searching in the land, he finally infiltrated the Leaf Village. It didn’t take him long after that before he was able to track down the Nara clan leader, Shikaku. Alex would end up confronting Shikaku in the Nara family forest north of the village, leading to a small bout. In the end, Alex was captured by Shikaku’s shadow, and forced to tell him the real reason why he sought the Naras. After telling his story, he was released, and Shikaku ordered the ANBU, who had stealthfully surrounded the battlefield, away from the scene.
Upon special request by Shikaku Nara, Alex was granted permission by the Fifth Hokage, Tsunade, for six months to stay in the village with the Naras, under the code name “Passage”. During that time, Alex was granted access to the Nara’s medical encyclopedia, and would eventually assist with Shikamaru’s training as he attempted to become a stronger leader. Through battle, Alex learned the Nara style of using their shared shadow arts, and from Alex’s zealous nature, Shikamaru began to realize his own self-driving force. The period of training between the two would end abruptly however, as Cloud Village spies finally caught up to Alex, which put the Leaf on a high alert for Cloud ninja. Instead of choosing to stay with the Naras, Alex left the Leaf, He became a wanderer once again. However, he did gain valuable information about the leak of information as well as the training he received from Shikaku.
