The Pokémon Center is a facility for weary travelers and their Pokémon to rest after a long day's journey. It is run by Nurse Joy and her faithful Pokémon assistants, Chansey and Audino. There are plenty of rooms for the travelers to rest upstairs on the second floor, as well as a cafeteria if they're hungry. There are also PC's, video phones and even a trade center for anyone to use if needed.
Laram whistled to Zeus up in the sky, and the eaglet landed on his head a little too quickly."Ouch! You know I hate it when you do that."The only response was a slight peck at the fringe of Laram's hair. Sighing, Laram took his pack off his shoulders and retrieved his Pokédex. He wanted to see what it would say about his Rufflet. He hit the scan button and the device whirred to life again. Most of the information was self explanatory. Rufflet was a flying type, his moveset, etc. None of it was new information.I don't know what I expected. It's not like this thing is a miracle machine. It's like some sort of encyclopedia. But it needs to scan something before it can store its' information.Laram shrugged and placed the device in his pocket. Hopefully he could meet someone that had a Pokédex too, then maybe they could show him how it worked. With Zeus and Shadow in tow, Laram opened the doors of the Pokémon Center. The climate controlled interior was dimmer than outside, and Laram tried to blink the glare from his eyes.
"Good afternoon. How can we help you today?"The pink haired woman's smile creeped Laram out for some reason. He didn't know why, everything about her seemed perfectly nice. Maybe too nice. She was giving off zero warning signs, and that bothered Laram. If experience had taught him anything, no one was perfectly nice. But he didn't want to live his life paranoid of everyone he came in contact with. He needed to give this lady the benefit of the doubt. He walked up to the front counter and smiled as best as he could. "Someone in town told me this was a good place to spend the night. Does it cost anything?""It does, but you have come at a lucky time. Our janitor wasn't able to make it in to work today. If you can cover for him, I am allowed to pay you, and offer you free room and board for one night. How does that sound?"Laram had already worked, but he wasn't about to turn down something labeled "free". Even if it meant a little more manual labor, it was worth it."Sure. That sounds like a deal. What do you want us to do?"
The nurse silently retreated to a door down the hall. She turned the knob and revealed the tools within."It's pretty simple. All you need to do is the basic maintenance. Everything you will need is right here. This is a list of all the rooms that need cleaned today. There are only three, it's been a light week. The front area could use a mopping too.""That's simple enough. I'll let you know when I'm done."The nurse flashed another smile and returned to her place behind the front desk. Laram retrieved the janitorial cart from the closet and made his way to the first room on his list.

Laram handed Shadow a brush, and pointed at the bathroom."It's time for us to earn our keep. I'll focus on the bed and room. You can start with the bathroom. We can switch in the next room if you want."The small frog looked at the brush and back at his trainer and reluctantly took it. Laram nodded and changed the bed sheets and blankets. After the bed was neat and pressed, Laram grabbed the vacuum from his cart and got to work cleaning the carpet. He spotted Zeus on the desk in the room and frowned at him. He was just watching Laram and Shadow clean."Don't think you're getting out of helping. Take the trash cans and empty them on the cart. After that, use the duster to get up near the ceiling."The eaglet adorned a blank look on his face an looked the other way. It was obvious that he was pretending that he didn't hear. But Laram wasn't going to have it. He picked up a can and thrust it on the Rufflet, knocking him off balance and forcing him to grab the can for balance.
"Serves you right. Shadow has only been with us for a few hours, and he already is pulling his weight. You can do more than fly around and chirp at me occasionally."That earned Laram a scowl from the Rufflet. He shrugged it off and continued to work. After thirty minutes of work, the trio was finished. Wiping the sweat from his brow, Laram lead his Pokémon to their next room. Things went a little smoother, and they managed to get it done in another twenty minutes. They repeated the process in their third room, but it was messier than the others. It took them a solid hour to finish. But the room never looked better. Laram returned the janitorial cart to the closet and retrieved the mop. "This is the last thing on our list. The sun's going down, and I'm beat. Let's get this finished."Laram filled his bucket with water and chemicals and got to work. It was a simple matter, except the Pokémon center had a lot more foot traffic. So he had to keep mopping up footprints. Finally, after a half hour of mopping and remopping, the floor was finally finished. Laram returned all his supplies and got his room key and money from the front counter. He closed his room door behind him and placed his pack on the room's desk.
After taking his shirt off, he flopped down on the bed and recounted his day."That's two k we made today. With Shadow on our side, that's more food that we need to bring along. I have no idea where to go from here, but this town isn't really yielding any results. I guess we should try to head out tomorrow. Maybe the nurse will have some sort of map or something that I can take. Or maybe the Pokédex has a map. Nothing. Well, it was worth a try."It didn't look like the device had that sort of function in it. But there wasn't anything Laram could do until the morning, so he wasn't going to fret about it until then. He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Laram's eyes flitted open as the sunlight poured through the window. He rubbed the sleep out of his eyes and sat up."Morning, you two."Laram's Pokémon were snoozing in unison. Shadow was curled up at Laram's feet, and Zeus was perched on the bedpost. Rather than trying to wake them up, he simply rose from the bed and changed his clothes. He wanted to put some distance under his feet before the weather heated up. It was summertime, and the sun could be brutal sometimes. After he adjusted his jacket, and pack, he gently tapped Zeus on his beak."It's time to get up. We need to be pressing on."Laram was rewarded with a yawn and a stretch of the bird's wings. He eyed his trainer, and sleepily nodded his agreement. Laram eyed the newest member of their family.He seems agreeable, but I don't know if he can keep up yet. Zeus and I have lived our lives on the road. It's not easy. We may have to slow down our pace until he gets stronger.
Laram gingerly retrieved the frog and wrapped him up in his arms, careful not to wake him. Zeus cocked his head."I don't want to overwhelm him from the get go. He may not be able to keep up with us yet. We're pretty used to travelling. I don't think he is."With his Froakie snoozing in his arms, and his Rufflet perched on his shoulder, Laram made his way to the front desk."Good morning sir. I hope your stay was pleasant. Is there anything I can assist you with today?"Creepy as always, but Laram didn't really have time."Actually yes. We're leaving, and I was hoping to get some information before we left. I'm new to these parts, and was wondering how to get to the next town. Is there some sort of map of the area?""It's no trouble. If you leave this building and head north, you will reach Route one. If you follow the road, it will eventually lead to King Town. The way is relatively safe. There are a few aggressive groups of wild Pokémon, but they are very rare. Unfortunately, we don't carry any maps here. Perhaps you can check in the next town."
It wasn't a map, but it was a direction; and Laram was grateful for the information. He thanked the nurse and exited the Pokémon center. She said north was the direction he needed to go, and that's the way he did. It was a simple matter, knowing that the sun was east. A few steps later, Shadow yawned in Laram's arms and scratched his head."Good morning. We're heading to the next town."The Froakie looked up at his trainer then, startled, jumped to the ground. After regaining his composure, the small frog nodded to him. Laram looked at the Froakie, then up at the Rufflet perched on his head."Alright, take to the skies. You know the drill. We'll walk along the path. Let's go you two."Trainer and Pokémon made their way north and exited the town. *Exit*

"Hmm... So these are the moves you can currently use here, and these ones are potential techniques that you can learn in the future..."
Regal's eyes were like lightning as he read through the different notes and details listed in his Pokédex. He had wanted one of the special devices ever since he was a little boy, and even as an adult he could say with certainty that it was the single coolest thing that he had ever seen. The amount of information stored inside was simply breathtaking. He had been pouring over it ever since he had gotten back from the tea shop, and just the data on Jarvis and Nova's species had been enough to keep him busy. Hidden Abilities in particular was a subject that Regal was definitely interested in learning more about. For now though, his first priority was dinner.
"Let's see what they have at the cafeteria, shall we?"
Nova was out of his Pokéball again, while Jarvis had chosen to stay within his. The artificial Pokémon was something of a rarity, and it had long grown tired of being met with wide eyes whenever it was shown off. Regal understood this perfectly, and was happy to let him rest in his ball while he and Nova filled their bellies. It wasn't like Jarvis normally ate, anyway.
"How does Chople Berry chili sound?" He asked Nova. The salamander Pokémon nodded its approval, and the two went to work. Regal had never eaten anything quite like chili before, but he enjoyed it immensely. Enough to order another six bowls of it, anyway. The people around him weren't sure what was more impressive: The young man's appetite, or his impeccable table manners. Nova had called it quits after two bowls of the spicy stew, but Regal ended up powering through nine helpings of the stuff before he deemed himself satisfied.
"What an exquisite dish." He remarked as he dabbed his mouth with a napkin. "The combination of Chople Berries and Tomato Berries give it a spectacular kick. My tongue is still tingling!"
With his supper finished, the Pokémon trainer returned to his room and resumed the study of his new Pokédex. It would take time, but he knew the information the device held within would be invaluable to him on his journey. Much like chili, knowledge was a dish that you just couldn't have enough of.
Laram opened the door to the Pokémon center lobby and approached the counter with the unconscious Bunnelby in his arms."Oh my, this one seems to have had a hard go of things. Return it to its' pokéball and I can start treatment right away."A blank look adorned Laram's face. It had never occurred to him that his Pokémon should go into the small capsules. Zeus never had one, and Laram had only received Shadow the previous day."Um, how?"The nurse's face showed a new emotion Laram hadn't seen before. Stern and slightly annoyed. "Take a pokéball and touch Bunnelby with it. Then do the same with your Rufflet and Froakie so I can tend to them as well."Laram gingerly placed the Bunnelby onto the counter and retrieved the three capsules he received from the lab.
Following the nurse's instructions, Laram tapped the button on the front of the capsule to Bunnelby's haunch. The ball floated out of Laram's hand and consumed the rabbit in a flash of red light. It landed on the counter and and the nurse retrieved it while she motioned for Laram to repeat the action with his other two Pokémon. Laram turned to his partners with two capsules in his hands."What about you two? It will be helpful for certain things, but I won't force you."The pair looked at each other, and Shadow didn't hesitate. Laram speculated the he was probably used to pokéballs from his time in the lab. But Zeus wasn't so sure. It was understandable. The eaglet had never been in one before. Laram had never been a trainer before. As Shadow's pokéball was retrieved by the nurse, Laram scratched Zeus' head to comfort him."I'll make you a deal. You will never go in this thing if you don't want to. Regardless of the situation. I don't care if we're in a volcano or one thousand feet below the ocean. If you say no, it means no. What do you say?"Zeus and Laram had been through a lot together, and the eaglet decided to trust his friend as he tapped the button on the capsule with one of his talons. Laram sighed with relief as he handed off the pokéball to the nurse."You have some strong willed Pokémon with you. They will become very strong. Your Rufflet and Froakie only need some minor treatment. They should be ready to go in an hour if you wish to wait for them.

Laram nodded and took a seat in the front lobby. As he waited, he retrieved the egg from his pack and held it while familiarizing himself with his new Pokédex.I wonder if there is a way to figure out what kind of egg this is.A thought occurred to the new trainer and he acted on it. Flipping his new device around, he scanned the egg, only to receive an error message. It was worth a shot. Laram decided to ask the nurse, but she was busy taking care of his Pokémon. Thinking on it, Laram realized that this was his first time using a Pokémon center normally. Usually, it was him sneaking in at night for shelter against the elements. Looking back on his life, Laram should have tried to become a trainer sooner. But the past was just that, the past. There was no sense in beating himself up over something he could not change. Laram spent his time familiarizing himself with his Pokémon's movepools, and even learned the Bunnelby's as well. It would be a good idea just in case it wasn't all that thankful for its' rescue. A little more than an hour passed before Laram heard the nurse's voice again.
"Sir, could you please restrain your Pokémon?!? They are destroying my treatment room!"The nurse's plea snapped Laram out of his bored stupor and he hopped over the front counter and quickly followed the nurse. It wasn't long before he heard a clamor in the back room and he ran towards the sound. In the room, his Rufflet and Froakie were locked in fierce combat with each other; but from the intensity, Laram could tell that neither were serious. It was an obvious sparring match, but one that was a bit too much for indoors. The horrified nurse had a look of exasperation on her face as she witnessed the spectacle."Hey guys, knock it off! There's a time and a place!"The pair snapped their gaze towards their trainer in mid air, and they crashed into one another and landed on the tiles of the floor. Sighing, the nurse shoved two Pokéballs into Laram's hands."Please get out of here while I treat your Bunnelby. I don't want to have to treat their wounds twice in one day. You clearly have not taught them how to behave. Please go, and don't return until this afternoon at least."Laram was embarrassed, but only slightly. He understood where the nurse was coming from, and she was right. Hospitals were no place for battles. Laram motioned for the two delinquents to follow him and the trio exited the Pokémon center together.

Regal was awake and showered the next day before the sun had finished rising. It was still going to be another hour or so before the Pokémon Center's kitchen would be serving breakfast, so the trainer decided to go for a quick run to kill some time while his Pokémon slept. After a quick shower upon his return, the trio went down to eat. Regal's eyes lit up with excitement as he took a look at the breakfast menu's featured dish.
"Chicken... with waffles? I wonder... what would that taste like...?"
As it turned out, chicken and waffles was pretty good. The savoury fried meat went remarkably well with the sweet and syrupy waffles, and Regal polished off five servings before he left the cafeteria. He could have eaten more, but he didn't want to eat that much fried food before heading off to Route 1. According to Jarvis, the route just north of the town was a fantastic spot for new trainers to test out their battling skills. It would be his first time battling with a Pokémon other than his Porygon, so he was looking forward to it.
The familiar smile splayed across the nurse's face was still unsettling. But Laram shrugged it off and walked up to the front counter."Hello again. You came at the perfect time. Your Bunnelby is doing well. He's in the back getting checked up right now. You can come see him if you want."Laram shrugged and followed the nurse behind the counter."I must say, your Bunnelby is much more behaved than your other two. I don't know what you taught him. But teach it to them as well."The corners of Laram's ears grew red, but he managed to keep his facial expression unchanged. This was only his second day as a trainer, but some authority figure was already telling him how he was failing at it. As they walked into the back room, Laram could hear someone else as they approached."Oh, you are such a sweetheart."
Laram stood in the doorway and watched the little rabbit get his check up. Every now and again, he would pat the nurse on the shoulder and she would scratch him behind the ears. It was cute, but Laram wasn't necessarily a cutesy person. Once the checkup was finished, the nurse patted the little jack rabbit on the head and shook his ear."All better now. You be careful." The brown bunny hopped to the ground and rubbed his oversized ears together like they were hands. It was then that he saw Laram and his team. He looked up at them questioningly as if to ask who they were."Um. Hi. We're the ones that brought you here. You may not remember, but you were attacked pretty badly. I'm Laram. This is Zeus and Shadow. They made me "catch" you to heal you, but I don't like that. This is your's. Do with it as you will."Laram did air quotes when he said catch. Then he placed the tiny capsule into the Bunnelby's ear, which had stretched out like a normal hand.
The Pokemon looked at it, then back at the trainer, and caught a glimpse of what was in the trainer's hand. The vial of sand necklace Laram received had not been put away yet, and the creature stared at it intently. He hopped up and Laram allowed him to swap the items. After looking at it for a second, the bunny placed it around his neck. What would have been too tight for Laram, fit the Bunnelby perfectly. He stared at it before looking up at Laram expectantly."Wait. Does this mean you want to come with us?"The rabbit shrugged and nodded his head in agreement. With his new partner tagging along, Laram and his team left the Pokemon center heading towards Route 1.
Regal wasted no time getting ready the following morning. Since becoming a trainer, the young man found that he was turning into more of an early riser with each passing day. He made one last inventory check to make sure he wasn't forgetting anything, and then made his way down to the lobby. Nova and Icarus were only just beginning to stir as he made his way out of the Pokémon Center, and the trainer told them that they could have a little more shut eye until they were properly on the road. Jarvis didn't need to sleep, so he would be able to keep Regal company as he made his way out of town.
"I guess we'll make our way back to the route from yesterday, and from there travel north to King Town." Looking over the town map on his Pokégear, that seemed to be the only real path available right now. It didn't seem like too long of a journey to hit the next town, so they might be able to get there by afternoon if they were quick about it. Aside from a little bit of berry picking, Regal saw no need for pit stops on the journey ahead, so hopefully they would make good time.
Laram shoved open the doors of the Pokemon Center and rushed up to the counter. The local nurse smiled and asked how she could help him. The trainer quickly explained what had happened in town, and placed his team up on the counter to recover. The nurse smiled while she answered."Oh, I don't think there's much to worry about. However, I would call the local laboratory for your answer. They know more about those things than I do. I'll take your Pokemon and fix them up right as rain." Laram was confused. She hadn't answered his question at all. But she pointed him in a direction, so he figured he would give it a shot. The trainer made his way over to one of the video phones the center provided and dialed the lab. After a second of static, the Professor's face appeared on the screen."Hello? Who is this? Oh, Laram! How are you getting on? Your Wimpod arrived here a bit earlier. I'm assuming that you're calling about that. He was beaten up pretty good. You must have done a number on him."The man chuckled, and Laram scratched his head."He's there with you? How did that happen?"
"I keep forgetting that you don't know this stuff. According to the Pokemon League rules, trainers are only allowed to carry six Pokemon with them at a time. Whenever they capture more than six, the other Pokemon get transported to a place of their choosing. Since you didn't set that up, your Pokemon came to the lab. If you want your Wimpod with you, you will have to stop by and keep one Pokemon here at the lab. We're closed now, but why don't you stop by tomorrow and we can go over this. I need your help with another job tomorrow anyway.""Sure Professor, I'll be there in the morning."The man smiled, said his goodbyes, then the screen went blank. Laram scratched his head. It was a lot of information to take in. The nurse helped the trainer find a suitable place to sleep, and the night passed without any interruptions. Once Laram collected his team, he left the Center and made his way back to the Pokemon lab.
Yukiko woke up the next morning feeling very hot and uncomfortable. Stifling a yawn, the trainer gently opened her eyes to find all three of her Pokémon sleeping on top of her, much to the girls chagrin. She was used to Jasmine cuddling up with her at night, but she had some pretty mixed feelings about the other two joining in. It was heart warming to see Anise and Angelica warming up to her after such a short amount of time, but she could barely move a muscle under all the fur and love. The poor girl was scared she was going to suffocate.
"I'm glad you're all comfortable..." She wheezed while attempting to pry herself free from the slumbering trio. "...but I can't breath with you guys snoozing on me...!"
The trainer eventually managed to squeeze herself out from underneath her team and shook her head in exasperation as she padded her way over to the bathroom for a much needed shower. She would need to establish some kind of boundaries for the future if she didn't want to be buried alive while she slept. After she had finished drying her hair and getting dressed, Yukiko collected her Pokémon so they could all go to the cafeteria for breakfast. The trainer snagged herself a bowl of oatmeal with wild berries while her team indulged themselves in bowls of Pokémon food.
She had more than doubled the amount of money in her wallet yesterday, but Yukiko felt like another day of work was worth it before hitting the road. It would be better to get her finances stable before adventuring, rather than having to cut her journey short because of a lack of funds. Madame Valerie had told her to stop by if she wanted to make more money, so that seemed like a promising place to start. Once everyone was done eating, Yukiko returned Anise and Angelica to their balls and waited patiently for Jasmine to climb up onto her favorite spot on the girls shoulder before the duo made their way out of the Pokémon Center. It was time to roll up those sleeves.

It wasn't the first time that Mila had stayed at a Pokémon Center, but it was the first time that she was staying at one by herself. As she entered the room provided for her, the girl came to the realization that this was the first time that she actually had a room all to herself. It was an exciting prospect, though she felt a little guilty admitting it. Like most Pokémon Center accommodations, the room and attached bathroom were modest in design, but that was just fine by her since it still felt luxurious. It was hard to believe that she was staying here for free. And eating for free on top of that, she thought as her stomach began to rumble. Stowing her meager belongings away, the new trainer beelined it for the cafeteria to enjoy dinner with her Pokémon.
The menu was filled with simple but comforting foods, and after some deliberation Mila got herself a plate of chicken pasta with garlic bread and salad, while her team indulged in bowls of Pokémon food. The flavors were completely different to what she was used to in Kalos, but she still enjoyed it immensely. Mila couldn't remember the last time she felt so full. She ordered a hot chocolate after her meal and nursed it slowly as she started doing inventory and making plans for tomorrow. Her wallet was still on the light side, but King Town wasn't very far away and was sure to have just as much if not more work available than here in Blume Town. More importantly, it would get her one step closer to her goal of Nix City.
The craftsman that had made her camera was from Nix, and he was the best chance she had at learning more about her parents. Getting to him was definitely priority one. She could hit up the Pokémart on her way out of town to get some basic supplies and then make her way to King Town. The weather was supposed to be sunny again tomorrow, so Taxi would have plenty of energy to carry her to her destination.
With her plans set, Mila returned to her room and went straight for the bathroom to take a shower before bed. She tried not to be too greedy with the hot water, but again she couldn't quite help herself as the girl took her sweet time lathering her hair in shampoo and letting the water and steam warm her up before finally stepping out. As she dried her hair, Mila's eyes locked in on the sight of Twig and Hat lying together on the bed, and decided that it might be a good time to try and sketch her new Pokémon while they weren't moving around. The room was quiet aside from the duo's gentle snoring and the skritching of Mila's pencil against the paper, and as she finished her latest masterpiece, the new trainer found herself smiling again as Taxi came over to nuzzle his head against her hand.
"Can't remember the last time things were this quiet, huh Taxi?" She asked the Skiddo as she gently pat him on the head. "It's going to take some getting used to, but I think this adventure is going to be a nice one with those two around to keep things interesting."
Stifling a yawn, Mila put her sketchbook away for the night and clicked the lights off before climbing into bed. Her first day in this new land had been a good one, and as she drifted off to sleep, the girl's last thoughts were that she hoped tomorrow would be just as nice.

Mila's eyes blinked open to greet the new day as the trainer woke from a dream she couldn't quite remember. She had slept soundly enough, so she was just going to assume that it had been a pleasant one. Since last night, Twig had moved from her previous resting place at the end of the bed to tuck herself into the crook of her new trainer's arm while she had been sleeping. It reminded Mila of how some of the younger kids at the orphanage would crawl into her bed when they were lonely or having nightmares.
"Rise and shine, Twig." She said as she gently picked her up to get out of the bed. "And that goes for the two of you as well." She added while addressing the rest of her team. "I'm going to take a quick shower, and then after breakfast it's time to hit the road."
Mila was eager to reach King Town, so she kept her shower brief and then hit the cafeteria. Her team nibbled on Pokémon food while Mila kept it simple with toast and coffee. As she prepared another piece with jam, she could overhear a couple at one of the other tables mention how full the local berry bushes were, and how sweet the fruit was. It occurred to her that since she'd been planning to hit up the local Pokémart on the way out of town anyway that she should invest in a berry pouch of her own to keep her and the team fed. Free food was free food.
"Alright gang, time to move." She announced to her team once everybody was finished. Taxi returned to his ball obediently, but Twig seemed and Hat seemed to have other ideas, with the Fenniken cheerfully running ahead while the Swablu perched itself on her favorite spot atop Mila's head. Trying to ignore the nurses giggles, the new trainer let out a tired sigh and followed Twig out the door, grumbling to herself at how the day was already shaping up to be an exhausting one.
