CLAW GAUNTLETS
[Weapons of Elegance? Or Fashion's Reject.]

Okay, this has been on my mind this entire time, and I've been wanting to show that the Claw Gauntlets can be more than just some accessory. Something more than just a guard piece, I want these Claw Gauntlets to literally become a separate weapon style, but Hiro is right on something. There is a limit to what people can do with the Gauntlet style itself without involving some other part of fighting. But I will remind you that we have characters, in anime and in gaming, that have done that weapon style the vary different ways. Grimmjow, Felicia, Wolverine, Vega, hell...even most of the werewolves and dragonoid Humans have fought tooth and nail, quite literally. So I ask for some assistance on ideas to make a good Claw Gauntlet Weapon style.

Yes, you can critique all you want on here in this thread about how lame the style would be or how op it could end up becoming.

Claws - It depends on what you aim to do with them, what 'weapon' 'armor' or body part such as ol' natural claws upon the fingers. Forget the anime/movie crap, to make a style is simple. First research things that relate to such things, in this case if you want to go something like Natural claws or small finger-like claws, research the weapon Neko-te. Neko-te were iron claws worn upon a woman's fingers (kunoichi) in Japan that were pretty much a weapon of sorts. The favored parts to slash at were the eyes, groin and armpit. This weapon had many variants, yes, but the key idea was simple - disable and aim for precise vital points. In fact the Tekagi discipline of this style of weapon is still practiced in Japan today and back in the era of Ninja, Togakure-ryu (School of the Hidden Door founded during the Oho Period by Daisuke Nishina) was the main school of this specialized art. A weapon style is a way of using a weapon, I don't see why another hand-to-hand style is needed to utilize this or be a prerequisite to learning such as art if the style itself is its own. Sure it may have influence but what Hiro might have said makes no sense if you make a claw style by itself...

Enough said. If you do your research, you don't need another style.

Edit: The information included in this post is just an example. If you make a style, do research on the facts first. It makes things a lot easier with whatever you're aiming for. All weapons we see in popular media have some sort of base, a Chain blade being that from a whip as an example.

For tips, keep it simple and try not to make moves with specific movements of any kind, to do so you'll bury a shallow grave -- it makes the style unappealing and 'ew'-esque.

Focus on the weapon, do not think of movements unless it is for attack, stances, etc.

Think of what is in a 'Style'. The teaching, the training, the focus, what is the primary discipline?

For claws, what are their strengths? Weaknesses? Try to think of things to enhance strengths and lower said weaknesses, for claws it may vary. Are they too short, too close? They are fast, or are they long and durable? Brainstorm the different qualities first.

Next, again what are you going for? Speed, power, what? Focus the said style around what you may want and try not to stray from said things. If you divert too much, the style is illogical. If you stay on task too much, the style is too bland, a perfect mix is what makes a style sexy.

Example: Neko-te, concealable, quick, silent / short, not very damaging, restricted to open flesh.
Aim: To strike in silence and speed at open flesh, namely vitals such as the eyes and the groin.

Reiko Zena

My idea of a claw style is a mix of elegance with deadliness. It is to be deceitful and therefor, fit the Neko-te in all shape and forms. Now I must brainstorm for now, I might end up coming up with another claw style useable for others. I thanketh thee Reiko.

I would also recommend looking at other clawed fighters, like X-23, Chipp Zanuff, or practically ever Bloody Roar character (especially Bakuryu).

Yet the movements he uses can be easily adapted to claws. Like Vega, he's a good example of how aerial maneuvers should be handled with this weapon.
