Information regarding the Uratha, story of Pangea, Luna, and Father Wolf, Auspices, Tribes, Gifts, and transformations.

Werewolves, Uratha - the People in the First Tongue, are part spirit and are divided into two main groups. The Forsaken who safeguard the spirit world and the physical world, making sure neither affects the other too drastically. And the Pure, who seek to wipe out the Forsaken for their past crime. Players should note that no matter what, the pack, if any, is the most important aspect of a werewolf's life.

Between Two Worlds

Long ago, the world was a paradise, a hunter's paradise known as Pangea, so the story goes at least. Where the strong ruled the weak, predator hunted prey, and the world was strong for it. And the apex predator was Father Wolf who patrolled the border between the Shadow Realm and it's Spirits, and the material world and us. He kept the peace as only he could, ensuring balance between the two worlds joined together. Impressed by his efforts and skill, the Spirit of the Moon, Luna, came to him and from their union descended the Uratha, Werewolves, half spirit and half flesh. They aided Father Wolf in keeping balance between the two worlds. Until one day they saw Father Wolf grow old and feeble, they began to worry he would be unable to fulfill his duties as guardian. They slew father wolf, as the strong slay the weak, as the predator kills it's prey to make the world strong. Luna was outraged and sent her fury upon her children, cursing them with Rage and a deadly weakness to silver. The descendants of those who killed Father Wolf became known as the Forsaken, and in repentance they took up his duty, keeping the balance between the spirits and the world, ensuring no one side overly affects the other. Those who held no hand in Father Wolfs death curse the Forsaken, and spite Luna for the curse she bore unfairly upon them, they call themselves the Pure and will not rest until every last one of the Forsaken lie dead.

Reborn Under Luna's Gaze

A terrible week, only getting worse every day. You've been a bit angrier but that's because of all the crap that's been happening. You can't sleep well, people have been acting a bit funny, and weird things have been happening. To top it off a dog bit you yesterday, it wasn't bad but could things get any worse? Apparently it could, because now people are following you, a group of them. Cutting you off and trailing behind you as you run to try and escape. You have no idea what they want, but they won't stop. Some of them look like criminals, big guys with tattoos, and their all watching you. Was it a mugging? A kidnapping? Murder? All you know is that they finally corner you, with a dog but weren't there five of them before? It's dark and the moon shines down, these guys just look even more dangerous the way they look at you, like their waiting for you to do something. And then it happens, pain in the bite mark and all that rage welling up as you roar at them to leave you alone! So what if you were outnumbered? If you have to fight you'll take them all down! You roar again, but deeper, more bestial, what the hell was happening? You feel hot, and your clothes feel tighter than they should. Everything goes red as their faces begin to distort and they get bigger, even the dog. You black out with one final howl. when you come too your clothes are in shreds, and the people stand around you, some with claw marks? They tell you your one of them, it's hard to deny, you feel something different, and one of those dogs changes into a person. It's a lot to take in, werewolves and whatever else. You gaze up at the full moon, your role has already been decided they say. They say you can follow them, or leave their territory...what else have you got to lose?

Bound in Flesh

The Uratha are spirits bound in bodies, men and women who can turn into beasts. Each one is the child of a human parent and an Uratha parent. Viewing the pairing of Uratha as akin to incest. As an Uratha, one gains access to a number of benefits after their First Change, and some drawbacks.

-An Uratha heals wounds from bludgeoning instruments within seconds, obviously the more severe the injurythe longer it takes, with the minimum being 3 to heal a minor injury like a simple average glancing punch. They heal injuries from blades, arrows, and bullets in minutes, the minimum, like a grazing hit, being 15, and the worse the wound the longer the healing. They can, however, expend Essence to heal injuries instantly, but of course it drains a vital resource as Essence is not easily replenished. Grevious injuries from aggravated and some mystical sources cannot be accelerated by standard healing and must heal naturally or expend Essence.
-Primal Urge is their measure power, Spirits give more respect, and fear, to an Uratha with higher Primal Urge. Other Werewolves can sense it as well, and give the proper respect to a greater predator.
- Werewolves make people uneasy and so dealing with normal people is harder, except when it comes to intimidation. This is due to a subtle effect of their Primal Urge, and only gets worse as it grows stronger. In addition, once Primal Urge reaches a certain point, 6, they begin to suffer from Essence bleed for every time interval they remain out of the Shadow Realm. 6 is a day, 7 is 12 hours, 8 is 10 hours, 9 is 8 hours, and 10 is 4 hours. For each interval that passes, they lose some Essence.
- Gifts are just that, Gifts, granted to them by Spirits in exchange for a service. This has one advantage over it's obvious drawbacks, they can gain stronger powers faster than others.
-The Rage consumes them, making them more aggressive than most people and when confronted by especially enraging or dangerous situations they may shift into their Gauru form and do whatever it takes to kill or survive.
-Werewolves carry a vulnerability to Silver, and it deals aggravated damage to them. Even wielding a silver weapon or item is considered a serious crime.
-The Uratha are apex predators, masters of hunting beings of spirit and flesh alike. They can track like a wolf, and will never lose a living target if they taste it's blood. Only Vampires cannot be tracked by blood as it holds no mystical connection to them due to being stolen from the living.

-The Uratha are gifted with the power to shift their forms, and they have 5 of them, with no moon required. The Moon simply makes them stronger when it matches their Auspice, the moon they first changed under. The forms are:
-Hishu - human form. A Uratha appears to be a normal, if very fit and healthy, human. An unconscious or dead werewolf returns to this form. This is the form most Uratha are most comfortable with.
-Dalu - near-human form. The Uratha is significantly bigger, hairier and stronger. Ears, teeth and nails are slightly pointed and the face is more angular. Facial hair is noticeable even on females. This form reacts in a similar manner as that of the human form.
-Gauru - wolf-man or war form. Half-human, half-wolf, the Gauru form of Uratha are generally 8 to 9 feet tall and much heavier and stronger than any human. In this form a werewolf's blood-lust rises to the surface and is much harder to control. Uratha can only channel the power of the Gauru form for a limited time, and generally only take this form to kill. This forms’ reaction towards chemicals is nearly impossible to predict and a Uratha takes this form automatically when he enters Death Rage.
-Urshul - near-wolf form. A Uratha in this form is a huge wolf 3 to 5 feet high at the shoulder, resembling the extinct dire wolf. This form reacts in a similar manner as the wolf form.
-Urhan - wolf form. The Uratha is indistinguishable from a normal grey wolf. Depending on the area where the Uratha comes from, respectively which area shaped the majority of his ancestors, this form differs. If there are grey wolves in the area, this form looks similar to these wolves respectively similar to other canines like the African wild dog, dhole, or red wolf (but never like domestic dogs) .
-Shifting your form can, needless to say, destroy your clothing. So the Uratha have a rite to bond a specific item or piece of clothing so that it transforms with you. The number of items can be equal to your Primal Urge. Items can be any piece of clothing or a backpack and it's contents for instance.
-Lunacy, a blessing and a curse of the Werewolf state. It safeguards the existence of the Uratha bu driving those who see them in their war form temporarily insane, forcing them to run or fight with frantic survival, and after the effect passes, they have no memory of what happened. Assuming they have no mystical blood themselves. Vampires, Mages, and changelings are unaffected by this effect. And those with exceptional willpower can withstand it and behave normally. For the sake of the RP, this power will only affect players if they choose to be affected.

It should be noted that you aren't changed into a Werewolf, your born one. A human parent and a werewolf parent, usually. The bite of another werewolf doesn't turn you, it only quickens the First Change.

Welcome to the Pack

Uratha do not have a formal government as other supernaturals do. They have packs and Tribes, but territory is divided by packs with the stronger packs gaining more territory. One's role in the pack is determined by his Auspice, the phase of the moon he was changed under. Though his ideals may make him a member of a certain tribe, and many packs are comprised of tribe-mates, inter-tribal packs exist with some frequency. Tribes have their concerns, but the pack is first and foremost to every one of the People. They are your family, your brothers and sisters, and family is always the most important.

Auspices

Rahu - Changed under the Full Moon, they are the Warriors, first to charge and last to retreat. Usually aggressive and determined, as befits their role as warriors. Their First Change is always violence, releasing their fury on everyone and everything around them, sometimes killing their loved ones. Though they may appear mindless barbarians, they can be tactical and cunning fighters or strategists.
Gifts - Talented in Gifts of strength, dominance, and other powers that further their role as Warrior.
Ability - They are much more capable in reading an opponent in combat, determining the gap between power and sometimes just what that entails

Cahilith - Changed under the Gibbous Moon, they are the Visionaries and storytellers, keepers of the old legends so that they may be used to solve problems in the present and future. Often expressive and compassionate. Their First Change often overwhelms them with new senses and hallucinations that leave them howling their fear and confusion.
Gifts - Talented in Gifts that grant knowledge, inspire others, and enhance their role as Visionary.
Ability - They can sometimes bear prophetic dreams to gain new insights into current or possibly future events.

Elodoth - Changed under the Half Moon, they are the Walkers Between, the judges and arbiters of conflict. Even tempered and observant, they negotiate between the physical and spirit worlds. Acting as mediators with spirits with the hopes of preventing conflict.
Gifts - Talented in Gifts that grant insight into others, protection, and that enforce their role as Judges.
Ability - Naturally much more skilled in dealing with spirits, so long as it isn't in a hostile way.

Ithaeur - Changed under the Crescent Moon, they are the Shamans, the spirit and ritual masters. It is their role to deal with malicious spirits and often possess the most knowledge of the spirits and their world as well as higher mastery of rituals. Commonly contemplative and foresightful. During their First Change they may be marked by revelations of the Shadow Realm and even glimpses across the Gauntlet that divides the worlds.
Gifts - Talented in Gifts over the elements, the shaping of objects, and those that further their abilities in their role as Spirit Masters.
Ability - More skilled in mastering rituals than other Uratha.

Irraka - Changed under the New Moon, they are the Stalkers, acting as scouts and silent hunters. Often inquisitive and resourceful. They can detect Loci, fonts of Essence, farther and with more accuracy than others and can track spirits more easily than others.
Gifts - Talented in Gifts of stealth, evading others, and those that enforce their roles as Scouts.
Ability - More easily perceive the other world or detect ephemeral spirits.

Tribes of the People

The Forsaken have five Tribes. These Tribes consist of Uratha who choose to follow one of five ancient and powerful wolf-spirits, called the Firstborn. These Firstborn are the first born children of Father Wolf (but not of Mother Luna) and have allied with the Forsaken. Every one of the Forsaken demands that the Uratha who belong to his Tribe act in accordance to a certain ban. The Pure also have alliances with the Firstborn, resulting in three Tribes, though they form a separate organization that is in opposition to humanity, and blames the Forsaken for the death of Father Wolf. The Ghost Wolves and Bale Hounds have no patrons, making them more like collections of werewolves with similar circumstances than true Tribes.

Tribes of the Moon
Also known as The Forsaken or Urdaga in the First Tongue. There are five Tribes of the Moon, who hold Luna to be their mother and honor her. They are allied with the lunar choirs, and strive to police the shadow world, keeping flesh on one side of the Gauntlet, and spirit on the other. They grant affinities in more Gifts than Auspice alone, and those that are underlined are available only to members. The tribes are as follows:

Blood Talons - known as Suthar Anzuth in the First Tongue, are a tribe of warriors, defenders, and champions. Heirs to Fenris-Ur, the Destroyer Wolf, their ban is to "Offer no surrender that you would not accept".
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of battle, inspiring others, harnessing rage, and strength.

Bone Shadows - known as Hirfathra Hissu in the First Tongue, are a tribe of shamans, seers, and wise men and women. Heirs to Kamduis-Ur, the Death Wolf, their ban is to "Pay each spirit in kind".
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of death, endings which are aspects of death but not death itself, insight into others, and protection.

Huntes in Darkness - known as Meninna in the First Tongue, are a tribe of assassins, guardians, and stalkers. Heirs to Hikaon-Ur, the Black Wolf, their ban is to "Let no sacred place in your territory be violated".
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of the elements, nature, stalking which covers stealthy approach and strikes but stealth on it's own, and stealth itself.

Iron Masters - known as Farsil Luhal in the First Tongue, are a tribe of improvisers, innovators, and progressives. Heirs to Sagrim-Ur, the Red Wolf, their ban is to "Honor your territory in all things".
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of blending, knowledge, shaping of objects, and technology.

Storm Lords - known as Iminir in the First Tongue, are a tribe of alphas, aristocrats, and commanders. Heirs to Skolis-Ur, the Winter Wolf, their ban is to "Allow no one to witness or to tend your weakness".
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of alpha which focus on leadership, dominance, evading others, and the weather.

Tribes of the Pure
There are three Pure Tribes (called Anshega in the First Tongue), who hold that the Forsaken should be eliminated from the earth. They are allied with any spirit powerful enough to be useful, and don't care about policing the shadow. They do not honor Mother Luna (the "b***h Mother" as they commonly call her) and regard the Celestine as an alien entity who seduced Father Wolf for her own nefarious purposes

Fire-Touched - The Fire-Touched are the spiritual leaders of the Pure Tribes. They claim the Forsaken are damned by default, they label the Forsaken as heretics who should honor Father Wolf instead of venerating Luna. The Izidakh claim that as long as the descendants of Father Wolf's murderers remain alive the werewolf race will still remain stained. Only by fire can the taint be destroyed. The brands on some Fire-Touched hint at cruel rituals of penance.
They follow Rabid Wolf their Gifts draw on the powers of disease and religious conviction. Fire-Touched accept converts from the Uratha. When a wolf turns his back on the Tribes of the Moon he usually shows up branded among the ranks of the Fire-Touched. Rabid Wolf's ban is that he cannot let a false statement lie. A Fire-touched MUST challenge a lie the moment it appears.
Tribal Gifts - Trained in the Gifts of disease, fervor, insight into others, and inspiring others.

Ivory Claws - The Tzuumfin follow Silver Wolf and their Gifts draw on the powers of purity and domination. Ivory Claws do not accept converts from the Uratha. Silver Wolf's ban is that he cannot interact with the impure.
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of agony which focus on pain, dominance, scourging which focus on purity, and protection.

Predator Kings - The Predator Kings are the feared warriors of the Pure Tribes. The Ninna Farakh do not hate the Forsaken for their supposed slaying of Father Wolf; they despise the Forsaken because of the loss of Pangaea. The Forsaken fight to preserve the world as it is. The Predator Kings want a world where they are free to hunt, a world where humans are reduced to the state of cattle.
The Predator Kings follow Dire Wolf, oldest of the firstborn. Dire Wolf's ban is that he cannot choose to touch anything made by the hands of a human except to destroy it. He cannot follow roads, brush up against people, etc. His children however have a less harsh ban but still prefer to wear clothes they have made themselves.
Tribal Gifts - Trained in Gifts of nature, harnessing rage, savagery, and strength.

What follows are not tribes, more of categories.

Ghost Wolves - Ghost Wolf is a word for a werewolf who follows neither the Tribes of Luna or the Pure Tribes. The only commonality between all Ghosts is that they all never fully embrace werewolf society. They are loners who either try to find a cure or cope with their existance as a werewolf.
Ghost Wolves either fail the ordeal of initiation or refuse to take it completely. They seek to integrate at least a little in the local Uratha society. Some even form packs believing that even though they reject the laws of the Tribes they must be with their own kind.

Bale Hounds - Bale Hounds is an umbrella word describing any member of the Forsaken or the Pure who worship spirits of pain, rage, hate, fear, etc. The Bale Hounds believe nature is flawed because the darkest emotions are the strongest, and that spirits of positive emotions aren't nearly as numerous as the negative. The Bale Hounds believe that when the spirits they worship come to power, they will take a part in sharing it.

There are also Universal Gifts granted by Father Wolf which govern, in essence, predation and Mother Luna which govern the nature of the Uratha.
