I personally think it's just a matter of choice and how devoted you are to the one that you're dating online. Like skype calls just to talk for a while, or watching anime/movies together online. It really can work, and I've seen plenty of people be happy with it! I think it's just easier to tell someone that you don't like them, online. It's a good way to know if you really like someone without having that face to face aspect about it.
You could argue that, that is what makes a relationship, but really it's just two people connecting, and online you can be completely and easily honest with your feelings. While IRL, you have that guilt of disappointing them, or making them sad, and having to deal with the real consequences which makes it harder to break up with someone, and thus forces people together and makes it look like it works more/for longer.
TLDR: *Shrugs* I dunno, I've never done it myself, but I can see why online relationships would have it's perks/advantages and disadvantages.

Why all the judgement? It's none of mine or anyone else's business how people date.

As I type this it's been some odd hours since I broke off from my LDR.
All I have to say is that these kinds of relationships can go bad, very, very easily.
A relationship can only bud at a distance for so long, if the two parties don't ever come in contact, the only thing that can truly bloom is doubt and lies.
I now gladly join the ranks of those who don't want anything to do with an online relationship.

Online relationships will only ever work out with an unheard of amount of trust and understanding. They hardly ever work out. Maybe one out of every thousand... and that's being generous lol. But I'm not going to sit here and judge others who think they have a connection with another person no matter how far away they are. Plus, I have no room to talk since I've been in one (one that obviously didn't work lol) and I'm sure that there are PLENTY of others on this site that have as well. I say let people do what they want, and if things don't work out, then they don't work out.

I'm gonna have to simply say I agree wholeheartedly with everything that's been said against online relationships

I'm just here for friendship. Not dating. Yeah I meet some cool people where we'll talk offline, text, even visit. But I do agree, you need a lot of trust in order for that to happen.
